"I am aware of KeSPA and OGN's wishes to run a Starcraft 2 tournament. I expect all issues to be dealt with and a tournament to open this year".
President of Blizzard Entertainment Mike Morhaime, who arrived in Korea on the 16th, revealed that a Starcraft 2 Pro League tournament would start this year while visiting the Yongsan studio during the SK Planet Starcraft 1 Pro League playoffs.
Morhaime met with Korean media before the match and talked details about the possibility of a Starcraft 2 pro league launching.
Morhaime said "This visit is to meet with all the parties involved with us and to improve relations with Korea. A lot of things are going to happen in Korea this year".
Currently Gom TV has exclusive rights to Starcraft 2 tournaments in Korea. Progamers under KeSPA are still focusing solely on Starcraft 1 leagues as negotiations between KeSPA and Blizzard were at a standstill.
However it is expected that negotiations for a Starcraft 2 pro league are going to pick up with Morhaime's visit to Korea. Industry representatives are predicting that there is a high possibility of a Starcraft 2 league starting as the first season of pro league ends and season 2 begins.
Morhaime also said "We expect to work with KeSPA to open a Starcraft 2 pro league this year".
Following the Starcraft Pro League playoffs Morhaime is also planning on heading to Mokdong to visit Gom TV's Starcraft 2 Team League studio.

Why can't we have more than a single korean tournament ? This is good news

Wow epic news. Maybe this will help bring Starcraft ahead of LoL in Korea.

I want a GSTL vs. SC2 Proleague Super Bowl-like final.
Ratings. Ratings everywhere.

In my ideal world, the OGN SC2 Proleague would run independent of and alongside the already existing BW Proleague, and would incorporate existing SC2 teams as well as possibly SC2 divisions of current BW teams.
I hope the old toxic drama doesn't show up, but I doubt it.

Big news.
Not sure how I feel about this yet...I love BW but at the same time I am excited by the thought of BW players playing SC2.

people think this is good news? gomtv might get owned just because this guy thinks kespa deserves to have exclusive rights to sc2 meaning no gomtv for most of you that didnt understand what the OP wrote
|
wow... sc2 proleague would be amazing
|
I hope Blizzard is able to come to terms with Kespa before LoL dominates the e-sports scene in Korea..
