Note: I did do a search on "Neutral", "Depot", and "Ramp" and didn't find a topic about this. However, if this is still inappropriate, I apologize.
Poll: What do you think is the better method of preventing Ramp Blocking?Neutral Supply Depots (133) 72% Edited Ramps (51) 28% 184 total votes Your vote: What do you think is the better method of preventing Ramp Blocking? (Vote): Neutral Supply Depots (Vote): Edited Ramps
Because tournaments like GSL and MLG have determined that Ramp Blocking is too imbalanced, they resorted to having either edited ramps that make bottom ramp blocking impossible (given that this info here: http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/2011_MLG_Pro_Circuit/Anaheim#Additional_Note is reliable), or adding Neutral sunken Supply Depots to far ends of ramps. I believed MLG stated that they resorted to using Neutral Supply Depots more often to make it so that the audience could understand the mechanics better.
Which method do you think is more appropriate and why? I do agree with MLG's reasoning and it does allow for stuff like Terran to wall off at the bottom of their own ramp after destroying it, which I think should be allowed (MMA did it in several of his games at MLG).

Would rather some other form, because imagine having a neutral supply depot at every ramp on every map. The other thing is that it can be distracting sometimes when you look at the minimap.

Neutral Supply Depots don't exist on every ramp, obviously, just small ones that lead to a main.

i just think its not aesthetically pleasing to have the depot. I dont really care one way or the other, but if i had to choose it would be edited ramp = /

It looks nicer to have the edited ramp so I would prefer to see that.
|
Lore-wise I find a little bit weird to see a depot everywhere but I dont care so much. I think they should just slightly adjust the ramps in the future on all maps.

neutral depot is pretty good but seems more like a quick fix. maybe some day the ramps will be edited for the same effect but it wouldn't surprise me of the neutral depot stays around for a long time. it's about time blizz put this in ladder maps and get rid of close spawns but that's a bit of a pipe dream O_o

I'd prefer just some other fitting doodad, a supply depot for all these situations just seem bizarre to me. Perhaps like a crashed container on some maps, a large tree on some others, a fallen column on some others. Something aesthetically fitting for each respective map.
Or just edit the ramp.

Its really distracting on Terminus RE, probably not helped by the fact that it is a dark-ish map. Every time I look at the minimap the first thing i focus on is the white dot. I have high apm so when you are glancing at it really quickly and all the time I keep thinking I have idle units there or something.
I often used to mistake kakarus in BW for workers going for a proxy or dropships.

I always thought the reason the supply depot is so used is that it allows the player to destroy it and wall off their ramp if they really wish to, it just delays it so the opponent can still scout them in time.
Edit: Forgot to answer! I do prefer having no supply depot as its more aesthetically pleasing but not only is it confusing for new players but it could also cause issues for pro players and having multiple versions of each map

neutral supply depots because if you destroy the depots then you can still build there, with the ramp blockers you could never build there.

at first i wished they had used edited ramps(if thats possible)
but then i thought of this and agreed that players should be able to destroy them if they want to wall their ramp.
Since the real reason these things were added were to keep people from locking Zerg in their base with a probe and pylons. and a probe doesnt have any chance of killing it fast enough.

It looks really dumb imo but it solves the problem so whateva

I think ramp bloking should only be prevented in the early game. Later on, it's a good way to have multi-layered defenses against for example baneling busts.

To those that prefer edited ramps: What is your response to the fact that you can wall off your own bottom if you destroy a neutral depot, but can't if the ramp has been edited to prevent it?

Also it's more easily seen/understood.

Because by that point in the game there's no purpose in the advantage gained by destroying it and it prevents cheese too much, you want to make cannon rushes at the ramp harder, but not impossible.
You don't gain anything by wasting time and destroying it requiring 1 less supply depot to block the ramp, when by that point in time you have probably walled your natural.
It should require 2 supplys and a barracks to wall the bottom, rather than one. This makes it balanced, a probe can still wall off with 3-4 pylons if it wishes, or a zerg with 3/4 spines to block runbys.

Agree with this guy. Not a huge thing, but the neutral depot doesn't look very nice. Still much better to have it there than having the old style entrance though.
