Hello TeamLiquid Community!
As you know, iCCup has been working hard to make the most top quality maps we can since day 1. After months of teamwork to create maps, we have gotten and pretty fundamental set of 28 maps. Each one right now has measured up to a certain level of balance, aesthetics, and and spectator value. So I come today to ask,
Which maps do you like the most?
After all, we make the maps for the players and community. To get a general idea of what the audience is liking the most in maps, I have arranged maps into 6 groups of 3-5 maps each. There is a poll after each one, please vote to improve our maps.
Just because a map has the most votes does not mean you should vote for it. Group A + Show Spoiler [(4)Moletrap] ++ Show Spoiler [(2)Endon] ++ Show Spoiler [(2)Fury] ++ Show Spoiler [(2)Neo Avalanche] ++ Show Spoiler [(2)Sungsu Crossing] +

Exclusive write up of Votes from neobowman, BW and SC2 expert mapper. Good read! + Show Spoiler + Group A I voted Moletrap. The other maps are simply badly made and will have balance issues popping up sooner or later. Endon isn’t terrible and Neo Avalanche is quite well done, if small but Moletrap is the best of the bunch as it’s designed on a tried and true formula and does not stray from the basics. It’s a bit bland, but none of the other maps in the group are designed better.
Group B First, let’s rule out Odyssey and Lebasse path from the group. Those two are not very well designed imo. Fighting Spirit is an early map by prodig and isn’t actually that well made. It’s very rough and the only reason you should like it is because it’s based off of a great brood war map. Trcc is a lot better but it still feels large in game and I think it would benefit being shrunk a good deal. Python in all honesty, is not that good, but with the newest edition, it’s best out of this mediocre group.
Group C Again, let’s rule out two maps. This time, River Point and Orbital Divide. Crop circles’ design is farrrrr too spread out and big so that immediately takes that out as well. Hades is well made but it feels iffy and there’s nothing spectacular out of it. Pawn, while untested, looks like it’ll play well and it has a healthy dose of inspiration in it. I voted for it (though it has a crappy name)
Group D Ruling out Obsidian Inferno and Sanshorn. Grand Line is wayyyyy too big so take that out too. Starlight Breaker is a decent map and I think it’s far and away better than the blizzard maps but Princess Fortress is so well designed (though the first version was prettier). Gameplay wise, the map is brilliant and should be one of the best in the pool.
Group E Ok, we only have to rule out one map here, which is Triforce. Superouman himself claims that it sucks. Enigma’s design is decent and all but the map size is GIANT! It’s still not terrible but definitely shouldn’t be the number 1. Europa, I feel has mediocre decoration and while it plays fine, it doesn’t have the extra umph behind it. Match Point plays out well and is good but it’s just overshadowed by Testbug so much. Separate paragraph for Testbug! It’s a godly map. First, just LOOK AT THE ****ING DECO! Second, the map’s layout is so perfect and the idea with the destructibles and the Xel-Naga towers is brilliant. The map is just so amazing and I think it’s the best in the entire map pool.
Group F I didn’t vote. I don’t like any of the maps.

Tri-Force is soooooooooooooooo beautiful, holy shit

Is there a chance blizzard will adopt these maps for the ladder pool or are we hoping that tournaments will pick up the slack?
|
if only blizz had half the map making skill as u guys do..............
great job iccup!

Hi. Can't see the images for Python and Fighting Spirit in Group B. Can't see River Point in Group C.
Edit: Oops. Just me! No worries. Just fixed it!
I have seen quite a few of these maps and played on them when I could. They look and feel really awesome. Its clear the mapmakers put a lot of love into their maps and I want to give a really big thanks to the map makers responsible! Thank you!

Blizzard has declined to say anything about custom maps in the ladder. But we're trying! Our current plan is to get big tournaments using the monthly map pool.

Hmm... there are a lot of pictures, so it could take a while to load. I'll keep an eye on it, but it seems to work for me.

Hey how about convincing Blizzard:
a) Have a special weekend map pool using these maps b) Have another 1v1 playlist using this map pool
Any luck with that?

Sure let me just call up Blizzard on my bat phone. Oh wait...
Seriously people need to stop thinking that every caster and org has Blizz on speed dial. Sure the Top 200 players talk to David Kim a lot, but other then that we really have minimal contact with Blizz. It's a shame, but as far as maps I have not been able to get any info out of Blizz at this point.
If it was just that easy, it'd already be done.

We don't want to bother them to much, but we have considered these yes. Posting on B.net forums always helps, if you are up for it!

somehow the maps i like the least are leading the respective polls. except matchpoint. that map kicks ass and people seem to know it.
GOGO fighting spirit. i really don't like your python version, rest seem like really decent maps. i would love to have some in the ladder, or at least tournament/a teamleague on iccup maps.

Voted!, very nice maps, I wish I could test them, especially Valhalla^^

Yeah, some of the results are surprising. But that was the point of the thread!

Just search "iCCup" in battle.net. As far as I know, all of them are on US. Most of them are on EU and SEA.

I dont like most of these maps, they are too big, and quite frankly, even more imbalanced than the ones we have on the ladder...
Fighting Spirit for example is just not balanced in sc2! How is Zerg supposed to hold a third, when collossi can fire on your hatch from above the ramp, while you can only attack through this narrow ramp? I think you need to consider the game way more when creating new maps, since not every good bw map will make a good sc2 map.
That beeing said, your version of python sucks as well, the island expos are way too vulnerable as they are etc

Actually Zerg has had a tremendous win rate on Fighting Spirit. Do you have anything to back up what you are saying or are you just hating because they are big maps?
As for BW maps, we have not created one in like months, we make almost all original maps now. Stop hating just to hate please, or show us replays that show what you are talking about.

Channel "iCCup" will be perfect for that. Hopefully people start using it for the maps, I know I will be there, as will a lot of of the other iCCup guys.
