So weird that I get a better connection to Amsterdam than Stockholm Sweden from here in Copenhagen.

The Sweden ingest seems to have problems, I'm getting pretty bad throughput to it right now as well.

After seeing your tweet about this I was eagerly awaiting it.

Is it intentional that you cannot paste the key in to the box? Not a very user-friendly key to input in a masked box.

It's just a regular text box so you should be able to paste into it.

Hi, thanks for making this program.

I ran it, but got lower results than I was expecting.

With this internett, I'd expect better. What do you think the issue is?

With a higher TCP window (i tried 1M, but checked for a second on 256k and it seemed fine) i get very solid and consistent ~6050kbit to all EU servers. With the OBS default, it's much lower - around 3000-3400. I sometimes have problems streaming at 3000-3500kbit using OBS. Is that something that's expected, or a problem? Fixable or not?

I clicked through all of the TCP windows testing the first server, 32k+ work the same (with steadily decreasing latency as it gets lower) but there's a huge drop off in bandwidth going below 32k.

32k ~6050kbit

16k ~4800kbit

8k ~3300kbit (this seems to be what OBS default uses)

other servers suffer more than the best ones

If this is a simple fix, it would be awesome. With 32k TCP window, i have pretty much all of my bandwidth and it's -extremely- stable (like 6040 - 6070 with no variance outside of that for the whole testing period) whereas right now i'm sometimes dancing around between 3500 and 2500 trying not to drop frames.

It seems like OBS Automatic mode isn't getting the signals to raise the window like it usually does. You can specify a 1M TCP Window manually in the OBS profile.ini under Publish, TCPBufferSize=1048576. OBS will always try to use at least 64k though. Minimize network impact may also affect the results.

Thanks, i'l manually set it to 64k. I don't have any of that minimize lag stuff on because i don't see any change in latency with or without streaming unless maybe i'm right up against bandwidth limits

It's set in bytes, eg 32k = 32768 bytes. You should check your OBS log though, it may be failing to raise the window to 64k for some reason as that should be the default.

The automatic TCP setting seems to be broken. My upload speed is exactly 12.5mbps (very stable too). When I set the TCP to automatic my scores are all over the place, however they increase hugely when I manually set it.

Here is my first score (automatic):

And my second score, at 32k is slightly higher (I'm edging my true upload score now in London (makes sense, I'm from Ireland).

And my 128k score, I'm consistently hitting my true upload score (most likely anyways, it doesn't actually record the exact score after 10k).

And now my 256k score, same again.

Any clue as to what might be going on with the automatic setting? It gives me by far the worst results.

Imgur links aren't loading properly on this page, I don't know why, but you can right click them and they'll open fine in a new tab.

Been looking at diagnostic stuff for a little while, my windows scaling seems to be correctly enabled and unrestricted but results in this program (and i think other stuff, i had some behavior like unexplained bandwidth losses to some servers, particularly far away ones, while connecting with bittorrent sync gave perfect bandwidth) doesn't show that

OBS itself seems to work fine now, just put on 5500Kbit to twitch stockholm server. Not sure if i changed that behavior by messing with windows settings though. I didn't do anything that positively affected the results in the bandwidth tester or manually set a tcp window size for OBS yet

15:14:22: SO_SNDBUF was at 8192
15:14:22: SO_SNDBUF is now 65536

^at the start of log, so that's probably good

Automatic asks Windows to suggest a TCP window, it's possible due to the short test duration Windows doesn't have enough data to recommend one. I did notice a bug where automatic mode starts at system default instead of 64k (like OBS) which may affect the results.

Heya R1ch i got a question,

im actually curious, because you stated that a proper connection would start at 80+ quality to stream so i tested different TCP Settings multiple times and uploaded the best.

8k http://i.imgur.com/shdhzdF.png
16k http://i.imgur.com/Sm8VDEM.png
32k http://i.imgur.com/LnUbEIp.png
64k http://i.imgur.com/dzrZDV3.png
automatic (obs) http://i.imgur.com/I7muuCU.png

so going your statement the 16k would be the absolut best for me now i wonder what and where do i have to change stuff to get those "16k"

Changing the TCP Window forces a lower maximum throughput so there will be fewer retransmissions (and thus a higher quality). Since you'll be capping the bandwidth anyway at a set bitrate, it shouldn't make a difference once you're actually streaming, right now it's only affecting the maximum throughput (ie the test itself).

Hello,
I need help to improve my connection to twitch. I get random results due to my isp. Sometimes i need to restart stream a couple of times to get a stable connection. Lately i have been having random disconnects too. Currently talking to my isp to fix things but they are like you get the speed we advertise so everything is okay. Is there anything i can do on my side to improve things or tell them what they should do to fix this? I am using ethernet with cat6 cables. I have been using the lowest ping connection but your tool says they are not the best quality options. Here is a screenshot of a test i did.

It doesn't work for me I'm on Windows 7 Professional x64. My streams been dropping frames so wanted to use this fancy program to test connection but it just says failed. Is this the reason why I'm dropping frames?

Same here as Takeodesu's result. Checked firewall, checked everything, obs just won't connect to twitch, so i tried this out to see which server is should connect to. Needless to say it all failed, so i double checked the key(spaces when copying it, even resetting the key) still not working.

Now the main thing is that i'd like to stream from a dormitory. It has it's own network system with a big proxy on it guarding the whole network, so when we want to play games like wow or Dota2, we need to ask for the ports in which the game would like to communicate. I've googled a lot and still did not find ANYTHING about port forwarding or behind proxy for obs or twitch. Still it seems is would need one, because you don't know why would your program say failed with the correct key(the reasonable answer is because the proxy doesnt allow communication between the 2.

Why do i post this here? You are a programmer with some (or more) network knowledge, could you help me with which port OBS and Twitch tries to communicate, so i can ask for those ports?

Would be life-saving man, thanks a lot in advance.

You don't need port forwarding, RTMP only uses outbound TCP port 1935. Almost all networks should allow unrestricted outbound traffic, otherwise other things are likely to break too.

First and foremost thanks for the reply R1ch. What can be my problem here then, if the port is open and i still get "failed" on all servers. The stream key is correct for sure. Bad OBS settings? What can cause your program to show "failed" on every server?

Thank you for your reply again. I appreciate your help.

EDIT: Every time i try it out. I go to twitch first, and reset the stream key, then copy paste it into the servertester and OBS aswell.

My stream keeps randomly getting dropped frames, so I decided to try out this program and am seeing some pretty lame results.

change the TCP window size setting and test again to see if it changes. By default for me this program uses a different one than OBS (that's too small) so i have to set it manually to see bandwidth properly

Hi !

Following the mentioned issue of recurring reconnections by OBS, I tried your tool to check for a better server. The software is really nice btw.
I'm getting a 0 Quality for every option, do you know what could be the cause of this ? I was streaming fine until 2 days ago and then bam !
I couldn't post my screenshot since I'm new.
Thank you,

I am getting really weird results with this program, that I think are probably not correct. I was trying to figure out why my stream was stuttering when I found this tool. I think I have figured out that the real problem was nvenc and if I use x264 instead everything is fine.

Specifically I am getting EXTREMELY high RTT times reported by TwitchTest. The older JTVPing tool shows much much lower latencies. I am not a networking expert but I feel like if the latencies reported by TwitchTest were accurate I would probably not be able to stream at all.

My TwitchTest results:

My JTVPing results:

For those screenshots I ran the two tests immediately one after the other. I have run each test several times and they are always in the same ballpark, ie TwitchTest latency results are always at least 20x higher.

Here is the VOD of the final test I ran, where I believe everything is fine now after switching from nvenc back to x264: http://www.twitch.tv/zeezdrdevice/v/12410040 . This vod was on the same computer and connection that I used for TwitchTest & JTVPing. I'm including it to show that from this connection and configuration I really can successfully stream and get good results.

Aside, I don't think it's especially relevant but if anyone wants to see the framerate drops I got with nvenc that went away with x264, they are seen in this VOD for example at 1:38-1:40 http://www.twitch.tv/zeezdrdevice/v/12136693

Are my results weird?
I'm from Sweden, and my MS is really high on all of the servers.
I do have 100/100mb fiber internet, and my stream is buffering for my viewers outside Sweden and swedes with bad internet.

The RTT information comes from the windows networking system, it can be unreliable if there are 3rd party drivers or other things that may buffer data or otherwise interfere with connections.

check your ping and packet loss with www.pingtest.net or a similar service

200 is a very high ping to have to a streaming server (i have ~20 in europe, ~150 across continents) but if it's stable (~1-25ms jitter, 0% packet loss) then it's usually fine. If you're dropping packets, that's not good

I am wondering if this tool is broken. I am getting 1k+ ping to everything in NA, tested and can stream fine on the servers no problem. Not sure what's going on :/.

I just did the test, and apparantly I didn't have Java installed yet, so it couldn't calculate the packet loss. But after installing Java, it kept telling me that I didn't have it...

EDIT: I noticed that I had to use firefox instead of chrome. This is my result now: [image loading]

Note that the RTT shown is only an estimate reported by Windows. It doesn't measure true ping (ICMP) and anti virus or other security software is known to interfere with it as it intercepts connections.

Ok so I went from this:

to this:

Is that good or bad news? because the ping went up like an airballoon, but so did the quality, which I find pretty werid... :p

Hey R1ch, started streaming just for the heck of it. First two days I was having no issues whatsoever with it, now it seems my entire internet is choppy.

Tested out your program, max I'm getting is 55+ ish Quality. One looked good at around 75, then shortly after my stream DCED. Ran the test again, says it "failed" to that location now. Is something fishy or just bad internet/throttling?

Seems like you connectivity to Twitch is really bad. If the rest of your internet is running fine I would suggest contacting your ISP.

I'm in need of determining issues with my downloads to various twitch servers. is there a tool i can get that'll check that for me? I've run the tool to determine "quality" but i think my home internet's upload is so bad it defaults everything to 0 quality anyway...

Backstory:

I'm aussie starting to stream, and none of my mates can watch my low bitrate stream, but can watch overseas high bitrate streams. I've ruled out my upload (i stream from uni with god-tier internet, and if you watch from on campus it looks A-OK), but no one can watch from home.

You need more viewers, if you only have a handful of viewers your steam only comes from San Francisco which will of course suck for Australian viewers.

Any more details on how this works? Is it the server you select to stream to in OBS/Xsplit?

No, all the ingest servers send the data to SF, then it gets replicated across the network based on demand from different geographies.

I'm surprised that they would do things that way - going 10k miles across continents and back even if everyone sending+watching the stream is within 50 miles of an ingest server

am kinda curious to learn more especially as the big streaming sites seem to suffer from some fairly widespread routing issues

Definitely something to ask your ISP about, doesn't look like a problem on your end since you get good speedtest results.

Do you know if anything like this exists for Steam download servers? Steam supposed to find the best one for you, and you can also set manually your country in the client, but I have to use different countries to get better speeds, and all of them vary, and I'm having a hard time finding the best one.

Can you elaborate on the specifications for your "Quality" rating?

Getting a flat 72 'rating' across all servers within 4300 +/- 3 kbps of each other all with normal pings.
Mainly just curious about your formula because seems like it only goes by bandwidth unless there are any drops.

Regardless, very nice program.

First of all thanks R1CH, amazing program.

So the main problem with my stream is that it buffers a LOT, making it unwachable.

So using the program what I see is that the bandwith and RTT are both always good and stable but the longer the test duration I use the less "Quality" I get. So basically if I use a 10 sec duration test I get quality results around 60-70 on all EU servers but if I set the test duration at 60 sec I get most of them down to 0 quality.

So if I can ask you guys or R1CH, if I call my ISP what should I ask them/tell them in order to fix the problem?

Try to explain that you have poor connectivity to Twitch, and quote the bandwidth numbers from the extended tests. Make sure to specify it's only to the Twitch network.

Thank you for the tool. I was really tempted to post a screenshot and ask halp, but my internet is all of a sudden not crappy anymore. It went from 0's the past two days to 80's across the board. I'll be sure to check my internet using this before I stream.

Every time I try streaming, my frames drop at some point through the stream. I have good upload/download, I even just had my wireless internet changed to wired at my house to my computer. Idk why this keeps happening, i'v tried other US servers, changed my upload countless times, and have done basically everything I can think of. I ran a test on here and here were my results below. PLEASE help, I love streaming and want to get this problem fixed. Whenever my OBS crashes, the bottom right where it says "kb/s" goes from green to yellow to red and then goes to 0 and that's when it says "obs reconnecting in 10..9.." Any help is appreciated.

I have the same Issue... My stream worked just fine last week, and i had 10000+ kbs on most eu servers. Now the best i can get is 1000 kbps, and quality to 0. Could be a twitch problem? Nothing changed at my connection, and my speedtest is still the same

Your ISP's interconnection with Twitch is usually the problem. When you call them you have to be explicit and say it's only to Twitch, here are my twitchtest numbers, etc. Speedtest sites generally only measure whether your connection to your ISP is OK, after that it's outside of your control.

Hey, why is the quality always on 0?
I need to use 1 of them.
Which one would you choose?

Edit: Everytime I test it changes really much and i always use 60s for testing.
I tested streaming and if I go for more than 2000 bitrate my viewers are buffering
Already called my ISP and they cant help me. I asked some friend that live in germany but other states and they have the same problem ??? I asked Twitch and they didnt answer.
Other german streamers I asked use less than 2000 bitrate too because of this.
WTF twitch?!

Hmmm ok i've got some interesting results and i can't undarstand why :D
I'm frum Bulgaria, my country is in the europe.
That red one. So interesting part is that i've got Quality 0 results for all of europan servers O_o than i start to chek US ones and ive got a results ... So what is going on here ? I have lower MS and lower Bandwidth in europe and still got Quality 0 O_o
[image loading]

Is that means that i need to connect to some US servers rather than europe ones ?

The program couldn't start because api-ms-win-crt-runtime-|1-1-0.dll is missing.

Hmm?

EDIT: I had a later Visual C++ version installed already. Tried uninstalling it and then installing the link you provided, but I am met with an "unknown error" so it won't install. I could paste the log file, but not sure if there is sensitive information in there.

Ran this test with my current internet speed. 35mpbs down 5mbps up with a 29 ping.

Current setup is a i7 4790k w/ 16gb ram and a GTX 960.

If I go TCP Auto I get 0 quality across the board on NA servers. 16k-32k seem to be where I land the best quality. My question is how do I Transfer that same quality over to OBS now? I tried following a Youtube videos exact specs but my stream lags and my computer gets pretty choppy with the stream and game running at the same time.

Hi. I just made a test with TCP Window Size on Automatic and Medium Test Duration and these are the results:

(I don't know why the screenshot shows up with a black border)

Actually I'm using Frankfurt server with 2800 bitrate on OBS and sometimes my viewers (even with faster connection than mine) say the stream is laggy. OBS doesn't show any issue like dropped frames or whatever, so I can't understand what's the problem. On my end everything seems fine and games run smoothly. Here's my Speedtest:

On this subject i've had some weird issues with the Twitch flash player. On a 6700k with windows power plan set to balanced, the CPU would drop clocks too far and make the video playback stutter; i have to manually set it to high performance (CPU clock locked at 100%) whenever i'm watching. A lot of other people may have the same or similar issues that are not even internet related.

so i used this to see if i could figure out whats going on with my connection (sometimes smooth, sometimes not)

and it currently says 10k+ for all of the east coast servers. when I use xsplit, it recommends no higher than 2.5k

i pay for 15k up/down.

i suspect some of the problems are stemming from my router, but I am not positive. any idea how i could find out what/where the discrepancy is?

It's just a regular text box so you should be able to paste into it.

Try testing to a server further away from you to simulate a real connection. Also speedtest uses multiple connections to try and show you the best speed, streaming / TwitchTest uses only one connection.

Results won't change made another test but the numbers are still the same, all with 0 quality. Guess it's some ISP issues. Pretty awful

Also, i made some further tests with other streaming softwares but, when i try to stream with twitch, it's laggy and dropped frames are more than 80%.

I've been getting similar issues here in the states. My connection speed is fine, but my connection to twitch is unstable at best. Big fluctuation ranging from a pretty good 3kbps to under 1k. Not sure if there's anything I can do as this has happened before and cleared up within a day, but any advice helps.

So far I've flushed my DNS cache, tried obs classic as opposed to studio, and tried streaming on hitbox, all with the same result.

Well your upload seems inconsistent, speed tests use multiple streams to try to find the highest speed while streaming only uses a single stream. Looks like an ISP problem.

How does this make sense when i'm connected from spain :s
Stream starts fine and after 20 seconds bit rate goes to 0kb/s and start a infinite reconnecting buckle, only when connected to singapore, no other server will even work at all

Neither changing TCP window size or test duration gives a different result, my key is correct. Singapore? really?

Looks like your ISP has some severe routing or capacity issues with the route to Twitch.

Very strange. What network card did you have? I'm guessing this is a KILLER NIC or something that messes with TCP connections.

A driver reinstall does momentarily reset the adapter. Try making sure you have no 3rd party software affecting it like game / network optimzers or similar software that may have come with your system.

Skype does weird things to my computer. For the longest time I had no idea what it could be, but something was just shutting off my Internet connection and made it impossible to reconnect successfully.

I just started removing stuff, and Skype turned out to be the issue. Now whenever I have to use Skype, it's a fresh install, followed by an uninstall and restart. No idea or explanation why, but take a look at that. Technology is such a black box these days.

By the look of it, it was a program that installed with the motherboard drivers from realtek, "Lan Optimizer".

I restarted my pc it went again to 200kb on the twitch test, killed bluestacks agent, Skype and Lan Optimizer, ran the test, all back to fine, then reopened skype and bluestacks and all fine for now.

I'll keep you updated if something changes incase it's help for other people with this problem.

That said it's weird how it did allow full 5 mbs traffic to singapore and singapore only(even if it was for only a few minutes), I bet u real experts can find a coherent answer to that, but for me it's curious to say the least.

Figured it would be something like that. Hate those kinds of programs that motherboard vendors are bundling these days.

Been streaming flawlessly for the past month every quality like 98 and 10k+ bandwidth and now randomly every connection sucks. Calling my ISP 3 times now get to lvl 2 and they just say everything is working perfectly which it is. But its just connection to twitch. i will paypal $20 to whoever fixes my problem

Actual speed to the servers is ~0.44 - 1.1 mbit aside from Dallas (2.35mbit) - maybe routing issues or something else if your performance is that bad.

Quality 0 means your connection is really bad, lots of lost packets and high variance. This may only occur when testing with Twitch since your ISP may have congested peering only on their network. It's generally something to bring up with your ISP.

Does that mean my ISP is interfering with the connection to twitch servers?

Could this be the reason I'm buffering alot when trying to watch twitch as well?

Mine also says all 0s across the board, my ISP is Time Warner and I have a stable 350/15 connection with around 28 ping to the Ashburn, VA twitch server. I used to be able to stream just fine here, but I'm pretty sure it's due to the network stability issues here recently causing me to be unable to stream.

It's possible you have 3rd party software that's interfering with the quality metric. "LAN Optimizers" or similar may cause it.

Hi.

Came here following a tutorial and now I have the same problem as Metax. I installed and reinstalled Visual C++ but the exe refuses to run and a pop up window says I have the vcruntime140.dll missing. I have perfomed a search and the file is in windows/system folder.

I must say though that the link you provide to download VisualC brings me the x64 version instead of x86. I don't know if it has something to do. My PC is a Windows 10 machine.

Thanks.

That's what I tried but I guess the webpage detects i'm in a x64 OS and delivers the x64 version without a chance to choose. I only could get the 2010 version which seems I already had. Dead point so far. I will try to find the file elsewhere.

Which speed do I use from the TwitchTest results: the fastest one, or the one closest to my server? I am using an estimator to recommend streaming settings for OBS, but I am not sure which answer to use.

If you aren't dropping frames, it's a problem between your viewers and Twitch.

Dropped frames, as in the counter shown in OBS / XSplit, are due to network problems.

"anything over 80 is probably stable enough for streaming."

I have issues and a lot of the time slideshow occurs when I stream...audio continues but the stream freezes/slideshows. Been searching for a cause and this may have found one.

Question is... why? I have great internet, but often times in Overwatch the 2 icons appear showing packet loss/internet issues (although I very, very rarely experience any in-game lag).

Check www.pingtest.net or a similar site for jitter and packet loss, try with a wired connection if you're not using one

I added Twitch's routing stuff to my firewall so now I have great qualities. EXCEPT..for some reason the one I want to use, Los Angeles, is 0.

Dallas is 94. I can use that...but I'm closer to Los Angeles. Any thoughts on why?

That won't help anything, you only need port forwarding for incoming connections which Twitch does not use.

The thing that makes no sense to me is how when I use the TwitchTest, the results always change. Dallas was 90+ before but is now 60. All the rest of my qualities are 0 now.

This must mean there's something going on with my porting to Twitch or something like this?

Hi! i have a problem with frames dropped (like others users) Im from Spain, always use Paris, FR. server in OBS, and never have probles in 1 year and 6 months of stream.

But now, I drop a lot of frames (50% of my stream are dropped) I try to change servers, flush DNS, my connection looks fine...

This is my result with your software and this is my speed:

I am new streamer and have the same problem. I installed OBS several weeks ago, downloaded the speed test and tested it out on my home wifi. Everything looked great, but I didn't try a test stream as I planned to stream from my workshop. As it turns out, the shop has super slow wifi (10-15 down/1.5 to 1.7 up) and the nearby Xfinity hotspot is about the same. I used a 'slow internet' OBS setup, but still got massive frame drops until the connection timesout. Delay was 60-90 seconds, but viewable in the channel.

At first, running TwitchTest produced a string of 'failure' notices, but I generated a new key, which resulted in the '0' quality test attached. I have since tried it back at home with the same results. DNS flushes and resets to open DNS servers had no effect.

Any suggestions?

I'm getting numbers all over the place, and even what looks like a perfect connection to Chicago is given a 0 quality rating. Is this indicative of problems with my connection, with Twitch, or with the TwitchTest software?

I'm wondering if something is going on with Twitch or something down-line cause I have all 0's for Quality, and currently am unable to stream because of my upload rate going all over the place, but this seems to be only affecting Twitch (I've streamed before with no issues at all)

I am having similar issues. Not sure whats up with that :/

I'm having the same problem also. Things were just fine a few days ago.

Any ideas on what's going on? I see it's happening to alot of people.

You should contact your ISP and specifically mention you only get these low speeds on their route to Twitch.

I am at a loss, Twitch Bandwidth Tester keeps saying I have Realtek LAN Optimizer is active on my system. As far as I can tell (and I've searched high and low for it) I do not have Realtek LAN Optimizer installed nor do I have any other programs (as far as I know) that would do similar.

The LAN optimizer file (ndisrd.sys) is also used by some types of malware, so try a virus scan. If all else fails you can simply delete the driver file (c:\windows\system32\drivers\ndisrd.sys) and it won't load any more.

Soooooooo I just downloaded this "tool". Checked for different servers, now I can't stream. It says its streaming via OBS but I'm not streaming. There's no kb/s on the bottom right and Twitch Isn't notifying me when I go live.

Hi, does anyone know what to do with results like this? OBS says I'm dropping about 37% of frames. I'm using an ethernet cable, not WiFi.

If I read the instructions right anything "over 80" is good? I'm running the US tests since I'm based in the US and I'm getting exactly 80's across all the ingest servers, every test. Where would I start looking in order to bump that over 80?

Edit, sorry I should clarify that I've tried different TCP Window Size settings, and there's little variation, quality goes from anywhere from 76-80 (unless I use crazy window sizes like 8k), but I've never seen any over 80

Alright. I've read this entire thread. I understand that the problems I'm having are from my ISP throttling Twitch specifically.... I'm paying for 75/10mbps down/up.

HOWEVER, I've already spoken to my ISP about this general problem before ( didn't have these server numbers to back me up though), and they told me that "everything is okay" and when i pressed harder they told me that "upload speeds aren't guaranteed"..... I know that I still have a case because of the screen shots i gave. (Miami is really the only server that will be good for me) I'm getting between 6-10 up via speedtest TO MIAMI, yet I can't get a good connection to the Miami server.

Again, I know I need to talk to my ISP about this but what do i say???? They'll just brush me off or not know what i'm talking about.

My IPS is blocking the ports 80 443 23 by default. I was wondering if it could help to open them to improve the quality of the streaming ?

Quality zero on every server either means your connection is awful, or some firewall or other 3rd party software is interfering with getting an accurate measurement.

I did a min long test and got this, my upload is 1mbps. Bandiwdth seems to be measured well. But Quality still is on 0. The only odd thing is the Sao Paulo server timing out the connection.

Those ping times to South America are very high. It's possible your wireless card is causing issues, or your ISP has very bad routing to Twitch. The bandwidth does look OK though, so the quality numbers may be a side effect of something else.

Thanks. Did some tests, and while 392p is potato quality, I can stream on it using the Argentinean server. I will check if there is anything on my firewall blocking anything the software would use.

ive been having some problems with streaming, and that i will start streaming form 3000kbps and then drop down to 93 or 0. i have no idea whats going on with my stream, i would use obs and xsplit and the same thing would happen. i have over 10mbps upload.
im thinking there has to be something wrong with my computer but i have no idea what. and i tried using that test it said i failed to connect to any of the severs, i didnt get anything for bandwidth, it just says failed.
i have no idea where to go or what to do, if someone could please help me that would be amazing

Should we go with the server with highest quality or lower ping? My results are really confusing. My connection tends to get 0 or very low quality from 40-65 ping servers such as Amsterdam or Frankfurt. My upload is capped to 5mbit by isp however it will go up to 10mbit during a burst. I think this causes the lower quality from those servers. However with higher pinged servers 70+ i can get a higher quality. Max i saw was 70-80 quality with my connection. I can't demand or change anything isp side. Any recommendations?

Also if quality assessment doesn't work in cases such as mine we should be able to put our max upload and get a quality value according to that speed.

I dont even know where to start. Connection during streaming doesnt fail but it varies from 900kbps to 100kbps and frame loss gets barely below 30%, more often above 60%.

I'm hoping someone has an idea with what is going on with my tests. I have done multiple tests, and never get results over 80 quality. It's like something is stopping the test at 80? Here is my results and what I have done:

1. Bypass router connecting straight to modem, same results
2. Called ISP who sent tech to house, tested all my lines, tested out at the "gray box" at the street, replaced some connections and main splitter where connection comes into the house. Tech says everything looks great.
3. Ran pingtests and traceroutes under cmd with excellent results
4. Ran twitch bandwidth test on multiple machines, same results

When I do test streams on twitch, twitch inspector says everything is "excellent", but no matter how much bandwidth I throw at the stream, I still get pixelation and blur like the stream is continuing to play catch up. I've literally done 100's of test streams at different bitrates, FPS, scaling plugins, color space and range, filters, different machines, etc. Also what I noticed recently, I can have OBS set to 3500 bandwidth, but when I watch the live stream or VOD in twitch, its playback rate is much lower than 3500, with occasional spike to low 3000's. When I watch other streams, their playback rate seems stable. (3500 is just an example, I've tried this with a range of different bitrates with same results)

Is it something simple I'm missing here?

Enable CBR in your OBS. That should be one of the automatically recommended streaming settings anyway

I do have CBR enabled, that's why I'm not sure what is going on. I've never used VBR as twitch recommends CBR. But I have noticed this happening in other streams as well. I think I started noticing this when Twitch increased the bitrate limit recently to 6000, so maybe it's just a playback issue idk. Thanks though!

What does it mean for the quality of a server to be 0?
Example, for me, US Central: Dallas, TX has a Bandwidth of just over 9k on average, a MS of 35-40 most of the time, yet the "Quality" says 0??????

Can I give you a suggestion ?? Could you add a checkbox to South America ??? There are already many servers in this region, in my opinion it would be better than the "other" tab.

I this still a viable tool. The last update I can find for it is 2015. I'm getting very low "Quality" scores and the servers furthest away from me with the lowest bandwidth and highest pings tend to have the highest Quality score, which seems backwards to me.

Based on that, it looks like Vienna. over 10Mbps upload, 100 quality, and the lowest round-trip time.

Well there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with my connection despite the 0 quality across the board. I'm able to consistently stream for long periods at 5k Mbps with no dropped frames or stability problems, so whatever the "problem" is that this tool is reporting it's not actually related to my connection whatsoever, and I've had no luck in tracking down what if anything could be causing it, so I don't know. Hard to trust it at this point.

Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to setup my system for some streaming. So I downloaded this app to find out what best twitch server to use. After running the program, i get a RTT result but the Bandwidth for all servers just result to "Failed." Is there something that I should adjust to the settings? Or given my result, streaming is already impossible.

Thanks!

So my bandwidth is good enough to stream the content I want, however the quality is lower than the recommended 80. I've also noticed on multiple (and random) occasions that the bandwidth will suddenly drop from 2000+ down to 600 and stays there for a little bit, then goes back to normal. If someone else on the connection is downloading/uploading something, would this affect it? Or is there something else that I should be worried about?

If I run a test longer than 10 seconds the quality is always 0 for all servers. What does that mean?
Here's a test at 10 seconds. Some nights of streaming I get maybe 1% dropped frames while other nights are bad and I get 10% and a few disconnects. This is using the auto setting in OBS. I live in central Illinois but the Chicago server always has the worst quality for some reason but the best speed and ping.

EDIT: I changed servers to Dallas and set bind to IP and advanced networking options in OBS and the stream was nearly flawless today. 0.0% drop. 59 frames in a 3 hour stream. I guess Chicago server is just a bad server to stream to even though it is way closer than the others.

Holy fuck, I've been trying to find a solution to my problem for the past few weeks since I've been streaming and encountering this issue on many occasions throughout my streams.

The problem with me was that my router is actually a router/modem combo (Motorola SBG6782-AC). A 2 in 1 type of scenario. I didn't know this until now because apparently those types of router/modem/Wi-Fi combo units are always a problem. In order to fix it, I had to put the router/modem (or whatever you want to call it) in "bridge" mode, and here are my results:

It's still not as good as what's recommended in terms of quality, but already I'm definitely seeing an improvement to what I had before. I'll run some stream tests to see my frames drop again because that's what really affected me.

Never mind, I misunderstood what bridging does. I've been getting random DCs from the router so that wasn't ideal. I'll be hooking up the router/modem combo to a main router and then bridge, and then see what happens.

Hello everyone. I would be really really appreciated, if some1 would look at this and maybe find a solution.

I Stream for years at twitch via OBS and all was fine. But since weeks i have got a lot of frame drops, so the viewers can hear the sound clearly and fine, but the Video is freezing for the "Frame-Drop-Time" (1-2 Seconds). This happens 1 times in 10 seconds i guess.

The funny thing is, sometimes it works fine! (rare moments..)

So this is what i've done allready to solve the problem:

Contact ISP (Changed Router twice) - they said all is ok (Upload is fine) - btw. i have 5 mb upload.
I tryed another PC with other wires - same problem, obs has still framedrops
I installed all new drivers and OBS has all accesses by Antivirus Kasperky

This is an actual Log of my OBS-Settings:
https://gist.github.com/8cd65979c88d08e558d42a65423bacfd

Speedttests showing, that my upload is stable and at 4-5 MB/s
Twitchtest SHows a QUality of 0 everywhere
but well, i will get some pics in here...

Twitchinspector Screen:
picload.org

Twitchtest Screen:
picload.org

Speedtestscreen:
picload.org

Please help.

Thank you very much, for Questions or Solutions answer here or add me at steam (twitchtv|Streat)

with kind regards

Streat

What a difference a new cable modem makes. Went from a sb6120 to a mb8600. Interesting that the chicago server still blows and I live in central illinois. Guess I'll be using Houston's.

Can someone help me out with a hypothesis?...here is a test I just ran with my desktop streaming/gaming rig.

And yet my macbook (with windows vmware) gets worse results but still manages to get better quality? And of course a 100 quality from my closest server.

Is this because my desktop has a wider ranger of upload instability? Aka... with more speed, there's more variance, and thus shows worse quality? I'm already calling my ISP to discuss my poor upload stability, but this seemed like my only explanation. Is there something I can investigate on my desktop's end to see if something is causing this issue? I don't think it's hardware related, but I could be wrong. I've literally tried every single thing in the book when reading about OBS and how to improve quality/dropped frames, but am at a loss. Especially considering I have streamed 6+ hour sessions early in the year without a hitch.

Hi, I usually stream perfectly, but recently with OBS the square on the bottom right which used to be green is now red, so I have done the twitch bandwidth tests again and they all fail: [image loading]

Hi, thanks for this great app. I have a suggestion, don't know if someone has suggested it or I'm able to do it but just don't know how. Would be good to pick just a couple of servers to make the test, and not being forced to do all the servers of the region that takes more time, in my case the only servers worth to test are the ones in red, the other always have low quality for me:

Also I don't know why some times one servers goes better and others worse, but it's way different, and some days all servers are below 3000kbs but my upload speed remains good.

And thanks once more!!

not sure where to get support for this, this is the closest thing to a support forum i've seen.

all my servers are Failed with pings ranging from rounghly 40-200ms+ sitting around groups of 50's, 180's, 200's and 200+'s. quality isn't getting checked 'cause they're all failing.

stream key is correct though i am adding in the --disable-data-upload part to opt out of the data sharing.

i have the TCP window size set to automatic(OBS), though i also tried it at 64k both on Short(10s) trials in all regions. made sure my stream key was up to date. my stream runs fine for the most part, but i'm new at this so there's a lot of kinks to work out. i've had a lot of streams cut short by internet outages, or otherwise just throttled to hell it would seem, but my internet speed tests always report back to me saying i have 170+mb/s download and 17mb/s upload with around 8 ping. 0% packet loss.

all of that said, that's all the information i think would be any help, if there's anything more i can add to this please let me know, if there's even anything anyone can do to help me here to begin with.

edit: reset my stream key, and it seems to work now, but using my old stream key should have still worked unless the key has to do with routing my data?

So... I know this question may or may not have been answered but I need a little understanding as to how... when I run the test and every single North American server has a Quality 0. Like it just seems a little weird to me.[image loading]

I also think it is weird that Chicago server has a good Bandwidth to it but Zero for Quality. What can I do to help the problem that I'm having for streaming. It's looking like I'll have to be on lower settings or something. I used to be able to stream in 720p 60fps. Now it's looking like 480p

This is my testmynet results connected to frankfurt servers. connected by ethernet cable.
As you see it is 2mbits. It should be 20 mbits

This is twitchtest result from my ethernet connection.

Finaly, this is testmynet results from my phone connected to wifi ( same internet from by ethernet )

So, i was trying to fix this problem for 2 weeks and was blaming isp. Also i saw you answered the posts with same problem and you say it could be isp problem. But today i tested this with my phone and i can get 18 mbit upload from my phone(connected wifi and from frankfurt servers which i use for streaming normally) and this show i can get that upload speed from my internet. So i dont know what to change on my pc. I tried everything. Opening ports, vpn ,dns. I believe the problem is on my pc or my ethernet cable. IF we solve this, a lot of people will be happy.

Thanks!

Hey everyone!

I'm getting really desperate.
Since i went back living home at my parents house i just can't stream anymore.

My Quality is all over the place, i tried everything.
From calling my ISP to getting them over to switching modems/routers.
Nothing worked and they keep saying my Internet connection is more then perfect.

But, streaming to Twitch is just impossible.
Any one know how this can get fixed?
Do i really need to keep pushing my ISP to fix it? or could it be on my end?

Thanks in advance!
