Btw, Afreeca still hasnt announced how they would split the fan contribution? Maybe somebody should contact the KR players/team and see how that went. So that we can have an "official" number on those.

If you wanted an "even" dispersion of races in the final rounds you would have to eliminate more top Terrans than both of the other two races combined. It is simply a more popular race in Korea and it always has been in Starcraft 2. Assuming a balanced game (which the game isn't due to the state of Protoss right now) you are more likely to see more Terrans simply because there are more of them. And then you take into consideration that Maru is just better than everyone else so you have to give him a higher chance than other players of advancing. So the question always comes down to this. Which Terran do you think is only here because the race is overpowered? Which one do you think would be swept aside if the game was more balanced in your mind? Because the Terrans I see advancing are the same ones that always are and that in a perfectly balanced game I'd always favor against the likes of players like Nightmare, Ragnarok, Armani and Creator. Terran isn’t OP, Toss is just rather lagging at the minute. Add to that Korea has only one real S class Zerg in Dark, and some solid A tier ones in the likes of a Solar or Rag Add to that Maru and Cure being stellar lately, I wouldn’t really expect much different. It’s only going to get worse if they don’t bring Protoss back up to some kinda par level. TY is likely to get into better shape, Dark can’t be that far off military service. If Protoss wasn’t so impotent right now we’ve seen herO bring a title home, Classic’s starting to look more like his old self and Stats’ return hasn’t been without promise. There’s the talent there if their tools were a little more potent Also obligatory grats to Maru, played out of his skin again!

That being said I think zergs aren't aproaching the matchup correctly, and letting the terrans get into the lategame in the position they want to. Also I think nydus are underutilized. Most Zergs use them for shitty all ins, but if you think about it, it's an insta recall, anywehere on the map, that has no cooldown and you can have multiples of. People complain about warpgate, nydus is a super warpgate as it can warp any type of units near the enemy base. the most helpless match I've ever played was with a guy who was masters and used nydus like that. He created Nydus on opossite sides of the map. Atacked with his full focrce one side, then ran quickly and isntantly teleported to the other side of the map and atacked there, then ran quickly and repeated. It didn't matter how many times I roamed and looked for nydus/overlords. Nydus are so cheap and you only need 1 second of vision to create them. I always wondered what that strategy would look like in the hands of a pro. Although it doesn't work on all maps, it works best in big ones. _________ In any case, Maru played great games, but also showed that he struggles with TvT. It’s looked strong when players have experimented with stuff like that, least that I’ve seen I wonder if it just ends up too difficult to coordinate those extra moving parts when there’s already so much to manage in super late game scenarios

Unless we get a massive Saudi Arabian tournament that injects tons of new money like other esports are getting, no one is replacing the Blizzard prize pool money from yesteryear. You are not addressing the other issue he brought up. The lack of new players has made GSL a bit stale for many. The number of top contenters is lower than ever.

The most recent new players in the foreign scene are Clem and MaxPax and they've been in the scene for years. The entire scene has stagnated and shrunk over the last few years. You want to call out just GSL for it? Doesn't make sense to.

Who is the latest championship-caliber player from Korea? In a way i would say that EU is more competetive than in years, with Serral, Reynor, Clem, Maxpax and Heromarine. Overal skill-level might be higher in Korea, but i don’t see much difference in the very top of EU/Korea.

In Europe there are 3 maybe 4 tops if you include Maxpax who doesn't play offlines. In Korea there's at least 5 if not 6 or 7. This goes for international championships as well as within their own sphere. How exactly is the Korean scene more stale? Because it has declined more? Well that's because it had further to decline in the first place. It's hard for you to say that Europe has declined as much when its closer to its peak now than it was years ago, years ago it never even had a chance of being competitive with the Korean scene at all. Even now, by your own admission even after all of the declining the Korean scene has done the skill level there is still higher. But here's something else you're not accounting for. The Korean scene has players returning to Starcraft 2 because a bunch of them had to leave to do their mandatory military service, something that Europe doesn't have to deal with. While Korea is unlikely to see any new breakout talent emerge from the ladder, it will gain additional players as more and more of them return from the army.

When herO plays up to his peak, he can win GSL (just like he's won tons of small tourneys recently against top players), but too often he makes mistakes and is sloppy. See his recent 5 games vs Nightmare in GSL (where he goes 2-3) if you want to watch a PvP to take all race discussions off the table. The only series that the Gamers8 world champion lost all weekend was to a Protoss. Sure there's a skill ceiling, but point me to a game where a Protoss played 'perfectly' and lost, and we'll talk. <posting this as MaxPax wins 2x ESL weeklies on the same day for the second week in a row>
