In fact Cure is the only other one who has won a premier tournament in the last 5 years Was that ASUS event Byun won not a premier? It was a major apparently, but he beat Serral and Maru so I would consider that premier even though prizepool was not high enough for it to be considered premier? Also technically he won premier events more recently but those were teamleagues

I dunno man, is herO really sitting all that comfy vT? he went down 2-4 and 0-2 to online Byun last week. I haven't watched all the games tho, so I'm not sure how convincing those losses were
all these terrans are looking scary AF right now
between the 2 terrans in group A... if I was herO, I'd be looking at GuMiho. he has been butchering protosses left and right and based on their recent history, I'd only put GuMiho at a slight disadvantage vs herO
Bunny is less of a problem for herO, but I think he still has a serious chance to get out on the back of his vZ / vT

1. herO 2. Bunny 3. Ragnarok
Not super confident about Ragnarok but he's had a good GSL year so far, Solar hasn't made it past the group stage in forever, and Gumiho doesn't feel quite ready for a deep run yet (I hope I'm wrong.)
1. Maru 2. Cure 3. DRG
from group B. Cure is looking good, while DRG has been good in GSL this year. Hope Creator makes it though!

Same
herO and Maru are in their own tier. And the rest are clearly a tier below them
First place is very obvious for each group. The other 4 in each group will have their own bloodbath fighting for the spots

maru vs hero finals again

In fact Cure is the only other one who has won a premier tournament in the last 5 years Add three months to those 5 years and we have GuMiho winning code S in the end of June.
But Cure is playing really well, as is Bunny, Creator and ByuN. DRG and RagnaroK are taking matches surprisingly often. Solar can become a sniper for any one match up and take down favourites.
I don't see cannon fodder. I see a lot of potential for upsets. Maru has had issues with the ro10. Season 2 went a bit better but he didn't even advance as the 3rd player to the semis.
If we look at form, then there are many good players. If we look at history of ro10, then DRG and RagnaroK>Maru and herO.

I would be thrilled to see a Byun or Gumiho resurgence with either taking down the whole tournament. A man can dream!

Maybe cannon fodder was too harsh but I don't see a real championship contender other than herO and Maru

hey top 2 not 4 lolol. Although what i'm really saying is I don't think it's gonna be a Hero Maru finals. You are right though, even that is, probabilistically, not a very bold claim.

Does anyone remember off the top of their heads if there were ever two consecutive GSLs with the same two finalists? Definitely seems a possibility right now

Definitely seems a possibility right now Not Code S. Closest was MarineKing vs Mvp, separated by one season of MC vs July (keep in mind the seasons were much shorter back then as well). In Super Tournament, Trap vs Zoun happened twice in a row.

I’d be fine with anyone but Maru taking it, obviously a non Zerg would be nice though and a Protoss would be great.

Half of them Terran, yeey!
But seeing how the maps seem preeeetty T friendly right now, it makes a lot of sense. Especially if a Z wins this, I know it is well deserved...

Actually quite an exciting Ro10. Obviously herO and Maru are favorites, but a lot of players here with exciting playstyles in good form who could easily make deep runs or conceivably win it all.
It will also be very interesting to see how TvZ evolves strategically during this, it does feel that with the current map pool Zerg is somewhat on the back foot right now, for the first time in a long time. That opens up some strategic space, though, and I'm excited to see how Zergs try to solve the new problems in the matchup.

Indeed. Terran seems to have more win conditions right now, both 2 base pushes and long grinds mining out last seem like deadly strategies.
But, Zerg is a very flexible race, I feel confident solutions can be found, especially being very careful about scouting for a missing 3rd cc.
A part of me really enjoys that they have to struggle for once!

Terran won't have time for a long grind, not even a 2 base push.
