The wave of upsets from DHM: Last Chance washed over into the Super Tournament as well, as with RO16 concluded with a number of surprises.
One surprise that may not really be a surprise was Bunny's victory over Rogue, with his powerful mid-game Marine-Tank pushes leading him to a narrow 3-2 triumph. Combined with Rogue's recent RO16 elimination in DHM: Last Chance, it was yet another reminder of the two-time Katowice champion's unpredictable day-to-day form.
The shock of Rogue's loss may have been tempered by his history of inconsistency, but there was no way to soften the impact of Cure going 0-3 versus Zoun. The DPG Terran had looked utterly dominant in TvP for several months, but Zoun proved to be superior in the new year. Zoun got to show off the breadth of his skills, winning with mostly straight up macro in game one, a Phoenix + Glaive Adept timing in game two, and a proxy 2-Gate all-in in game three.
Trap saw his slump continued as he ate a 0-3 loss at the hands of the rising herO. Trap focused on aggressive tactics that some may have expected from herO, going for a 1-base Blink all-in in game one and building a proxy-Gateway inside herO's main in game two. However, herO's defense proved to be more than capable of handling the attacks. The final game on Blackburn saw herO get away with taking a gold base while Trap took the safer 'normal' expansion, which led to herO winning with superior Stalker numbers in the early/mid-game.
Depending on your point of view, Creator going 3-0 against Solar may not have been the biggest surprise—the Team NV Protoss has been performing well lately in online events. With a Cannon rush in game one (PartinG came over to Creator's house to teach him directly, according to the post-match interview), a strong mid-game timing in game two, and a Golden Armada in game three, Creator was able to knock out the DHM: Last Chance semifinalist.
The remaining matches went mostly according to chalk, with Zest, Maru, Dark, and ByuNmoving on to the RO8. The GSL Super Tournament will continue on Monday, Jan 24 8:00am GMT (GMT+00:00)with the RO8 matches: Zest vs Bunny, Maru vs herO, ByuN vs Dark, and Creator vs Zoun.
Wait, liquipedia says the ro8 continues in a day and a couple of hours (which is the same time the youtube stream is slated to go live). Did you make a typo by saying that the ro8 will continue on Thursday the 27th or are those other two sites wrong?
Glad too see Protoss doing well, too bad there was a 2 matches of PvP knocking out Protoss. Hopefully the meta can sort things out when there are no balance patches

Byun and Zoun havent won much of anything in recent years neither, so anyone but Maru and Dark would work.
