Due to COVID-19, Blizzcon will be a special online show that will be free to watch.
Blizzard president J. Allen Brack shared that BlizzConline™ will be free to watch.
Attune your chronometers, flip your hourglasses, set a notification on your phone—however you mark the passage of time, save the date for BlizzConline™, set to take place February 19–20, 2021!
While circumstances are keeping us from gathering in person this year, we’re putting together a little something early next year to channel the spirit of BlizzCon into the form of an online show, which will be free to watch and engage in. We still have a lot of planning to do, and it’ll be some time before we’re ready to share more details—but we wanted to provide a heads-up on how you can be a part of the online fun.

No mentioning of any tournaments or anything ESPORTS related. More details will be released later.
Not really sure what to expect. Hopefully there will be something Starcraft related, given that it is Blizzard’s 30th anniversary...

It's probably reasonable to expect little.
This will most likely be the first blizzcon in a while that I skip completely.

if there's anything other than a cursory 'hello starcraft' I'd be very surprised. Even when the game was still "supported" they barely mentioned it

At least it's free to watch.

I care as much about Blizzcon as Blizzard does about SC2.
The real Blizzard is dead anyways. It was taken over by Activision and the people that were Blizzard already left.

Bob Fitch is still there. Activision let the guys at Frost Giant go without holding them to a non-compete clause. So Activision is contributing to the RTS genre by letting all those RTS vets... do their own thing.
Has anyone at Frost Giant taken a shot at Activision?
Anyhow, its nice to see ATVI and Blizzard are continuing the Blizzcon tradition in a way that limits the spread of infectious disease. I hope its a great show.

Some information about Diablo 4 would be nice!

But if you are, I am thoroughly impressed by your mental gymnastics. Activision is a corporation, not a fascist regime. They have no control over what former employees do with their life. Bob Fitch is a puppet and the only reason he's still there is his willingness to execute activion directives.

They have no control over what former employees do with their life. it is pretty obvious to even the most casual of observers that Morhaime , Pardo and Metzen were under 2 year non-compete clauses when they left. non-compete clauses are standard. the only permanent full time job i worked.. i signed a deal that included a non-compete clause.
so it was classy of ATVI to not enforce that with the people at Frost Giant.

Well, they won't exactly crack out a "competitive" game within one or even two years. It may be that there's no point in writing in such a clause, given the downtime between them leaving for a new studio and actually producing something.
As for Blizzconline (shit name), I don't see the point of watching it if there's no SC2 or BW tournament(s). If I wanted to subject myself to hours of basically advertising, I'd spam click videos on YT.

+ Show Spoiler +The clause probably states you can't start developing/building/coding a competitive product for two years. that was in my clause. This explains why Rob Pardo was 100% dead silent for exactly two years.
Any how, ATVI could've been as onerous with enforcing the clause as they were with Pardo. They chose to just let 'em do their thing.
Has anyone at Frost Giant talking shit about ATVI? my guess is... no one is. They are silently grateful for the deal they got with ATVI.
in any event ... we're veering off topic here. i will be happy to keep discussing Frost Giant and ATVI in the games industry thread. https://tl.net/forum/general/540389-the-games-industry-and-atvi

My thoughts exactly. If i am home and got the time i might check it out, but you might as well watch it as a VOD later if it is just advertising.
Is it a month before IEM Katowice? Would be cool if they did a online tournament together with ESL/Afreeca. I mean it IS Blizzcon(line.... such a shitty name) after all...

I guess it's like nintendo direct. Interesting to see if they announce anything.
