Despite that though he's on course to make the Global Finals at Katowice. Despite that he's being hyped by Artosis for some magical reasons. Well it's been almost 5 years since the last time he's won an individual tournament anyone takes seriously and people still pretend that he always shows up in big prize pool tournaments. he had some nice 2nd places. but seriously, appart for the exceptions, he's not compatible with LotV it seems Is it a sOs drought or Protoss drought? Stats, Zest, sOs were all big time prior to this expansion. If they can hang in there for a few more patches, I'm sure they will start collecting trophies if the meta is favorable to Protoss. As for this group though, 100% sOs did play terribly and this loss was on him. What do you mean? Stats has been great in LotV. Even though he has suffered along with all other Protoss since Zerg became too strong, he still won Assembly last year and has made several grand finals. It was more of me picking any top 3 protoss players with prior expansion success. Classic and Trap fall in line too. Obviously those two players have seasons/years with really good results, but I think still suffer at the hands of LoTV/ZvP matchup. The thing is that sOs had no good seasons and almost no results. Sure, some Protosses had their bad seasons, but not like this. sOs is in a very bad situation and I fear he might be gone soon.

Obviously those two players have seasons/years with really good results, but I think still suffer at the hands of LoTV/ZvP matchup. Well there's no question that other Protoss players could have had even more success with more Protoss favored patches and metas. But Classic and Trap each have achieved as much (or more) in the worst of times for Protoss as sOs did in his best years in LotV. The only fair assessment is that it's on sOs & LotV, not Protoss & LotV. If sOs has a singular atypical strength it’s in constructing builds and dragging games into weird zones where he reacts better than his opponents. There’s still some room for manoeuvre for sure, but Legacy’s eco and speed really contracts the early-mid game where sOs so frequently shone in the past.
Sadly I feel that he´s lost his abbility to react better to his opponents to his weird strategies. Most often than not he can force the game into a weird zone but then choose a horrible strategy. Of course sometimes he wins which make him look like a genius but more often than not he loses nowadays. Just look at the last game against Armani. If he wasn't scouted I assume he would have continued with carrier production but because he was scouted he decided to go mass archons, which is a horrible composition in most cases. I can only assume he did it because he thought Armani would go mass corruptors to counter his carriers but then ended up with quite useless archons against mass hydras/lurkers. So he kinda played himself which seems more common from sOs now then him playing his opponent.
I didn't see the games but read that he beat Dark in the two normal games of their serie to qualify for GSL so it's sad that he didn't try to do the same with Armani but felt the need to complicate the games when he obviosly can play pretty solid in normal games.

Too bad the highs and lows average out to first round elimination in Code S Regardless of anything else he pulled off a proxy nexus strategy in GSL, so for pure entertainment value I hope he sticks around.
