Another memory appealing more to dark humor... Shortly after the full release of SC2 I sometimes played 4s with other people I knew from TL. All four of us would set our icon/avatar to the black bridge officer from the single-player story, and like 95% of the time after the loading screen (which showed the icon of all eight players) we would get bombarded with text chat comments related to our choice of icon. It may have been 100%.

When SC2 Beta opened I started laddering and got placed int a platinum division (then that was the highest since diamond wasn't a thing yet). After playing a few more games I looked to see who was one rung above me and it was Tasteless. As I learned the game better and improved I slowly moved up, and Tasteless was always 1-2 rungs ahead of me. I never caught up to him before Beta ended. Another memory appealing more to dark humor... For me, the goat of WoL was Mvp and Lotv kinda belongs to Serral for now. Was there one person who dominated Hots?

Gotta say though, that Elephant Article was definitely one of the biggest blunders here, adding fuel to the flames of a, at the time, incredibly toxic KESPA vs ESF and BW vs SC2 discussion that would always inevitably pop up in any discussion forums. It's an interesting insight into how people worship their e-sports idols, and basically fan culture in general. The huge idols, almost worshipped like gods, would surely dominate. Of course the truth in all e-sports is that the new generations will always surpass the previous ones, and everything is always in a state of evolution and change. Instead of a positive article about all the new players that would come to our beloved game and all the great games we would get to see, we got a polemic about how everyone's favourite players were shit, the competition was a farce, etc. It's very funny to be honest, how fandoms can thrive on negative emotions.
