What I am wondering is still what they are negotiating about. Because if they already had everything mapped out, they would surely just announce it right away.

Since Katowice is going to be the world championship from next year onwards, it makes sense anyway to place the Korean tournaments in the period between the Katowice tournaments. This way their are really not in much of a rush since qualifiers may not start until March. Doesn't have to work like this. They could have a GSL during Katowice but the points for that GSL would count towards next year's Katowice and not this year's Katowice. Katowice is pretty late so forcing 3 GSL to be played after Katowice means a a very cramped GSL season, if they want to finish the GSL season by November which has been the past schedule. Alternatively, they could have GSL 1 in spring/summer, then GSL 2 in fall, then GSL 3 in winter/spring so that the GSL season would fit before Katowice.

A 4 month off season before the world championship would be weird.

It doesn't make any sense to have Code S during Katowice, all the players are off to Poland. Katowice actually begins in five weeks. Having Code S qualifiers and the Ro32 before that would be very rushed, it makes no sense. There is also WESG final qualifier in that time period. Katowice is pretty late so forcing 3 GSL to be played after Katowice means a a very cramped GSL season, if they want to finish the GSL season by November which has been the past schedule. That is precisely what I'm suggesting they'll do.

Since there is no need to really fit a blizzcon schedule, this is exactly what they should do. The year starts and ends with Katowice

Do you mean the confirmation, that it is going to happen at some point, that we got from the pre-Katowice interview from Solar or an actual, official announcement with dates and actual format?

Thanks for sharing. This is the best news of the week for me! Really curious about the exact details, but it sounds like people involved have been pumping it up a bit.
