Hello TL!
We've been getting a lot of requests for songs playing in the GSL/ASL, more so than usual, via our support system on AfreecaTV, our support email, and through our social media channels. We are glad to hear that you are enjoying it and we are happy to help where we can. With that said, to better serve you, we ask that you reach out to the Music Director, BK, directly.
His website with playlists and a running radio - bktrax.co His email can also be found here, and he invites you to reach out to him. + Show Spoiler +Apologies that his website isn't the most up-to-date, but he is quite busy and will do his best to help you out. He also has a Twitter!
Only around 40% of the music is pre-planned for each show. BK sits there for the entire show, watching the games, listening to the commentators and observing the crowd. Based on these factors is where inspiration for the rest of the music comes from, 30% which may be normal tracks and 30% remixed by himself on the fly. With that in mind, please understand that some songs may simply not be found anywhere else.

BK's music selection is always good. I have been following the song lists since GomTV. The playlists are a year behind though!
I wish we could get more info about the tracks after the casts!

The Madness and the Damage Done by Shining! Or really anything from the album Blackjazz

Would be awesome to be able to do !song in the chat and get the song info!

This is, honestly, super interesting to read and somewhat surprising. Is this true for both Korean and English streams? Is the music the same or different? Because on the English stream, the music to me has always sounded like a Korean trying to figure out what a westerner would listen too more than anything - we have been making fun of the GSL's "generic white people music" at home for almost 10 years by now. It's not offensive by any means, but I would never guess there is so much effort behind it. Maybe I am just not the right target group?

I've enjoyed the music choices BK mixes into the casts since I started to watch GSL, they rarely feel out of place and there's always something fresh

that's a really weird takeaway
BK has insanely eclectic taste in music (from modern swedish metal to filipino blues bands), and the way he throws in a super commercial pop song now and then feels more like an 'ironic music hipster' move.

Yeah not to be rude, but your assessment is way off. I've talked to my friends who don't watch pro starcraft explicitly about the GSL soundtrack. It's insanely good.
Speaking of which, is there a way to access the song lists for recent GSL events? On BK's website it just seems to have some stuff from 2018

Yeah, I mean, this is actually an interesting surprise to me. I am aware that what they play is not "commercial pop" - in the way that it is very different from what a random radio would play in my car - but it all has always all sounded extremely uniform and non-interesting to me. So when I noticed how people like it and how much effort is put into it, I really had to ask: is that the same thing I am watching? But from your reaction, I gather it is, in fact, also concerning the English stream, am I right?

BK's tracks are amazing on the English stream, but I've emailed him about a track ID before and didn't hear back (unless it went to spam?). I know he has a life and he doesn't owe me shit, and it didn't bother me at all, but it would be great to have the "planned songs for the season" that play over and over on some kind of list. One of the current into songs is sick AF (after commercial break where they show the 4 players of the day) and I'd love to know what it is.
On another note, on the English stream I've never noticed him DJ remix tracks live. I'm a professional electronic music producer and occasional DJ so I would know. Maybe they mean that he chooses what songs play when we go into game (very possible), and mixes their volume live. Otherwise, he may remix songs in the studio, and play those live. Lost in translation I guess, but as a huge BK/GSL fan I'd love to get the reel deets of what he does in the live show!
Lastly, thanks for Afreeca for offering this post.

Not sure if back then it was BK too, but during Code A a Czech song was played, I was shocked for ages, because I wasn't expecting anyone outside of CZE to know this band(and then on a Korean stream... )

I'm not really sure honestly, but that is how it was translated to me. Here is a glimpse of his setup though if you are interested: + Show Spoiler +

He was the Music Director for the GSL back in the GomTV era as well. From what I've heard, he buys/has friends in Europe just send him tons of CDs.

Thanks for that photo - I see a Focal box under one of the desks - they make amazing speakers, although I don't see them setup in the room. I use Focals in my studio.
