I thought the article was alright, but didn't have much substance to it.
Statements like this:
The units look good so far and it is my understanding that they have opted to make most of the units either meelee or ranged attack-based. This means that we will probably see fewer spell casters -- which means the game will boil down to a lot of basic AI abuse micro which is a feature that allows good players to topple the bad ones.
Well, we have already seen two protoss spellcasters, and the fact that units would be a mix of ranged and melee seems pretty obvious. I dont know why staying with that model would reduce spell-casters...
Finally, if the game fails to live up to SC, then in Korea it will suffer the same fate Warcraft 3 did.
no kidding
I'm more interested about the pace of the game, frankly -- remember that StarCraft is easily the fastest real-time strategy game out there.
Blizzard has to create a game that will be as hardcore as the original Starcraft. My only fear is that Blizzard will nerf so many features, that the game will feel very newbie when played. It’s my hope that they will keep it fast paced and difficult to master.
I agree with this that only fast paced games are suitable for broadcasting and watching. WC3 failed because battles go on for too long. Battles should happen in seconds, like in SC.

I <3 Tasteless - don't get me wrong but I agree with Mani - he just rehashed what everyone has said since SC2 was announced... Still I do <3 Nick...

Yeah I think Blizzard thought they were real clever with War 3 and said "Oh ... the battles will go on forever .. people will be so amused and entertained micro-managing their troops and watching them battle!!" ...
But instead it just captured the attention of 12 years olds and people with small attention spans and ADHD.
The true beauty of starcraft is losing all of your workers in a cliff strike, or all your marines in a lurker spine, quickly shifting the tides of the game back and fourth if someone can "make something happen."
I loved starcraft when I got good at it because when I was playing people of a lesser caliber I could lose my entire base, and always still find a way through strategy to win the game. Warcraft 3 took that away ... its basically build all the shit you can, learn which spells to use and which heroes to make, then everyone usually knows exactly whose going to win the game.
In starcraft, on a good 2vs2 Lost Temple game, as you were developing your bases and coming up with a strategy I always liked the confident feeling that I was doing good but still knew that anyone could at anytime win the game, especially if they pulled some sheisty shit.

Can someone please flame that arrogant asshole BoooooO for me on the GGL site plz?
I tried logging in, but GGL site says my username doesn't exist.
So I try to create a new ID with that username, username already taken (obviously since it's my username..).
So I click 'forgot my password' -"password has been sent to your email" or something like that.. I check the 3 emails that I use, no GGL email.
OK, so I make a new ID with a NEW username! Get to the bottom, click submit.. "Please fill in all the fields" (I'm sure I had already done this..).
I rewrite everything, click submit..
"This ID has already been registered". Yeah right.
Anyway, BooO or whatever, is annoying and I'd be very happy if someone could flame him (just a little).
(actually he's not THAT bad, the GGL site just pisses me off :D)
But saying 3D adds depth, or that the learning curve of war3 is steeper, or hell, using kartrider etc as an example of how 'sc is dieing' (it is getting less popular btw, it's just a horrrrrrrrible example, and the scene is still bigger economically than the rest of the worlds esports scenes combined I'm pretty sure) is prettttty stupid considering they've always had those games on TV.
Yeah, this was rambly. Now I'm going to actually read the article.

yeah, well that was the point of the article : ) i'm trying to capture the holistic view of the sc community in regards to sc2. GGL is read by a lot of different types of gamers, many know little about starcraft (just look at boooooooO's comments LOL). I was simply trying to educate the mass gamer population about where most of us are coming from.

One thing major for the e-sport is change a lot of the unit skins. Zerglings look like fucking dragonflies or something and tanks look like boxes. Its gotta be aesthetically pleasing to your eyes, and if they want some audience from OG SC they won't be able to understand what shit is right away.

hahahahaha OG hahahahaha
"Finally, if the game fails to live up to SC, then in Korea it will suffer the same fate Warcraft 3 did. For StarCraft 2 to really become the ultimate esports game several things need to take place -- industry wise, we need it on TV outside of Korea. Hopefully Blizzard will pressure major television companies to start airing the game. Koreans did it themselves and it turned out to be an incredible success. If done correctly, real-time strategy games are very good as spectator sports. While I love watching games like Counter-Strike, I think many TV stations are afraid to put something that violent on TV. There is also no simple method of displaying an FPS to an audience since some people become dizzy by the fast-paced graphics (many of the Quake-style games), while others get confused about what's going on and who's killing who (Counter-strike). I have no problem figuring this out but I'm also a gamer -- we want more than just gamers watching e-sports."
by far the most interesting/insightful part of the article.
Edit: And Oh god GGL is dumb.
