Will it be another Warcraft 3 or will it bring about a new era where we will see the faces of professionals on the packaging of not just Korean chocolates?
Much will depend on whether SC2 can withstand the comparison with the original. In this respect we should be ready to expect anything. But, let\'s also admit that Blizzard has some big shoes to fill. StarCraft has been the most influential e-sport game of all time and most particularly so in South Korea -- the e-Sports capital of the world. I think Blizzard is taking this into consideration and is very focused on making this game another incredible e-sport game. The question will ultimately boil down to whether or not Blizzard studied StarCraft enough to both improve upon it while still keeping it with a StarCraft feel.
Although we have already seen some videos with the game, I would need to see more about the design before I could make judgments on Blizzard\'s approach. It looks good, but it\'s also different from the original StarCraft in many ways. Some SC players are disappointed that it\'s 3D. But really, 3D will make for an even better spectator sport. I\'m more interested about the pace of the game, frankly -- remember that StarCraft is easily the fastest real-time strategy game out there.
A SC player is given so many tasks to juggle while strategizing that it takes a true master to compete at the highest levels. I want this game to be fast as well as intense. The Protoss interface looks quite cool, but I haven\'t seen the other two races\' interfaces yet, so I\'m hoping they will be just as slick.

FTA: "There are tournaments and leagues played every day on the international scene and Blizzard has just released a new patch for the original SC allowing for a comprehensive ladder that can be played through StarCraft."
Personally I don't think you should post news and then basically link to a different article. Either the full article should be here, or it should be a forum post (which seems more appropriate for this news, anyway)
Why is this news ? I mean OK, cool article and all, why wasn't it posted as a simple topic in the Starcraft 2 forum or even as a blog entry ? Especially if it only contains the first four paragraphs of the original article...
i think sports need some sort of stability. like in basketball, soccer, tennis the game has remained the same for many many years. but in e-sports, new games are being introduced all the time which can't be good for it as a sport because then there isn't enough room to gain popularity or for the players to become super skilled or for viewers to gain "understanding" of the game. i think one of the main reasons sc1 was successful was due to the fact that it was stable for so many years. there weren't major changes and remained reasonably consistent. the constant changing of the sport makes it very hard to catch on i think because it's impossible for a regular person to develop deep knowledge of any one game.
changing into 3d definitely sacrifices alot of the tricks u can do in original 2d sc. but there might be new tricks or even better tricks, right now its still too early to say anything, i just hope its not like wc3 where u cant do any tricks at all, ie peons tricks, blocking tricks....
