I realise that the game has just been announced, that there's a lot of hype going on, and that until we actually have the beta or the alfa or anything, there's nothing TO do but theory -craft about Starcraft 2.
But what's going on here is insane. There are 5 pages on the unit selection capacity. People are arguing that if you could cast spells like in wc3 it will be imbalanced, if you could mass-produce like in wc3 it will be imbalanced. Tanks not damaging immortals is imbalanced. Taking out medics is imbalanced. And the funny thing is... nobody played it yet!
How can you go on and on through literally thousands of posts in one day about balance issues if it hasn't even come out yet? You don't know how it's gonna feel, what units will be like, etc.
The really scary thing is that when it WILL come out... it's gonna be hell. People will find tons of "imba" strats, complain about SO many features/bugs, argue about build times, hit points, etc. Just imagine that if THIS much arguing happened over 20 minutes of gameplay video... then... wow.
Nobody has any idea how unit capacity will actually influence the game. Sure, we can guess how, but we don't actually know. We don't know how powerful toss actually is. We don't know about how infantry+metal will work, we don't know even half of the units that zerg can build, but there's pages and pages about balance issues.
Even if the beta will be balanced as hell, it will take time before people realise what a good counter is for everything, before they realise the little tricks that help and so on... It's going to be devastating.
I guess there's no real point to this post except maybe... relax a bit, enjoy the videos and wait for more information. Take on the game and enjoy it's potential, don't put it down because of some possibly imba-units and features, and so on.

The unit selection isn't as much an issue about balance as an argument about if unit and building selection should be an integral part of skill or not.
And with everyone being high on Starcraft hype there is no wonder they have to express it through alot of theorycrafting about how the final game might be.

who cares, speculation is fun and harmless - there is a new sc2 section on this forum and it would be empty without it if you don't like theorycraft threads just stop reading them

When people thoerize about different games that dont contain the word "craft" in the title do they still call it theorycrafting?
just wondering

Yeah I can't wait for all the noobs (which will be everyone) complaining after every single game that it's imbalanced. That should be fun.

PvZ is going to be imballanced no matter what.

yup
and this is really a reflection how much the community looks forward to a sc sequel

That's what i call the hypestorm. Noone can stop it now. Most of these threads are useless to me. But whatever, it's the hype.

Same happened to dawn of war and it's endless imba discussions. Patch after patch they complained and complained. Their minds where totaly poisened...

Massing like in wc3 rofl

I said mass-produce, as in... produce from several buildings simultaneously. -.-
Either way, I'm picturing this wave as the one you see in the distance, after the water retreated into the ocean for about a mile. It looks big, but it's far away so it's ok. And later on, when they'll realease the game... tsunami! Huge wave of whining and complaning about imbalances that's going to take the world by storm!
Nothing can stop this. NOTHING!
