Currently it is not possible to look at the supply count of allies in team games. So you are at a great disadvantage if you have to macro for another player. While it might be possible to guess the right timings without big fights, it is nearly impossible to add Supply Depots / Overlords and Pylons efficiently (when they are actually required) for other players after they loose a huge chunk of their army.

There are many other reasons why it would be beneficial to look at the supply count of your teammates. But as long as the player is still in the game you can "ask" him.

Are there any good reasons why this information is not available?

Here are some questions that I want to discuss.

- Do you think knowing your allies supply count is important or do you think the current state of the game is ok?
- How do you want this information to be displayed?
- Can you think of reasons not to implement this feature?

Here are my thoughts:

Obviously I think that it is important to be able to look at the supply of your allies. I would like the information to be either shown just below my own supply or by selecting a Supply Depot, Overlord or Pylon of the player in question. Both should just state the information like: 158/200.

The only disadvantage I can imagine are team games where the teams changes during the game. The game starts with Red and Blue vs Pink and Brown and ends with Red and Pink vs Blue and Brown. This might only be important in custom games, as you cannot change your team for ladder games.

AFAIK it was removed after it caused too much hate in Warcraft3 : why don't you buy this, why is your army that small in food. Blizzard thought removing this info would make team games with strangers friendlier.

I think OP is referring to when the player leave or dced and you have to macro for them. I wonder this as well because its hard to play for someone else without knowing when to get supplies for them.

But are there really a lot of situations where you can win a 1v2 in a team game so that you would need the info of your allies supply?

if you click on an ally's unit in a teamgame (after he's left) the indicator in the top right will show his supply count, rather than yours.

@sickoota: Read my post. I never asked what we are going to do about it. I just wanted to hear some opinions on this. Please do not speak for everybody here, as I am as long a member of this community as you are and I do care about team games. Plus Blizzard reads Teamliquid as well, just look at all those Maphacker threads.

Age of Empires II was EXTREMELY common to ask for pop in chat. You get to know how hard they've been powering with tech or pumping out units.

I'm perfectly good with just common chat banter

Player 2: pop 110

Team games with ally pop count risks making display just cluttered. I'm not sure its warranted. I'd have to see some working concepts on how unobtrusive it could be, yet easily read at a glance.

I suggest something like this. You click on a supply depot and the same way "energy" is displayed for command center supply is displayed on supply depots (overlords and pylons). Pylons would need 3 rows HP, Shield and Supply.

Depending on what is considered better you could do the same with main buildings like CC, Hatch or Nexus.

Clicking on one of their units like you can do now seems a lot easier than specifically having to find a depot, pylon, or ovie to click on.

If you play team games seriously you should use voice communication, if you don't play it seriously, it's not needed.

afaik the resources of the other player are split and given to the remaining players so really the only thing needed would be supply. (if im wrong sry)

I guess the other thing about this is the stored resources are split immediately (confirmed), but the resource income is split amongst remaining teammates. If you knew your other teammate's resources, you know who should buy the next gas geyser, or probe, or tech building).

Does this actually work? I tried it and it does not show me my allies supply (even after he left). Might be bugged.

In my opinion, there should be more questioning as to why Blizzard wouldn't let team-games be more team-friendly (sharing pylon power sources/ using each other's nydus worms, medivacs to drop, etc.)

Wrong, you can discuss child molestation, fake iranian bombs, LoL vs Dota2 and anything you can dream up.

True yes, but its a SC focused forum, and the mods treat it like..well, i cant think up anything as nasty as they treat them threads! xD

But yes, i do think we should be able to see our allies stats. Especially after they've abandoned us. (Perhaps only after, if they think it will cause a shitstorm, idk)
