Hello, l am new to Team Liquid, and posting here,
Never the less i have been experiencing some technical problems with my CPU and its usage. When I play Starcraft 2 it hogs about 70% of the CPU cycle, and maybe more and just makes for slow game play. which can be very annoying. I was just wondering what solutions can you guys offer to fix this. Also sometimes when i watch YouTube CPU usage also shoots to 100%. I've tried the svchost.exe thin, that wasn't the problem. Out of the game I look at the processes and there is no high CPU Using program, and sometimes its Google Chrome, and sometimes its a new program all the time.
If your as confused as I am with the above ^. Then I don't know.....
System Specs Intel(R)Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80 GHz Over clocked at 3.15GHz Ram: 2.0 GB HD: 300Gb VGA Nvidia 7600GT(i hate it)

I think you might just have an outdated processor. Pentium 4 single cores are stone age technology
|
|
but it never used to happen before. but what i have to buy a whole new mobo to get dual core
|
ugrades is the solution.. need at least a dual core processor and more ram... new graphics card wouldnt hurt at all either.

It is supposed to use all your CPU. The game renders frames as fast as the system will allow for the best experience. If it is too slow try disabling running services or upgrading your hardware.

okay but what about out of game just a while ago i was watching youtube and it sky rocketed,

i'm no expert at all but the overclock might be causing the problem, haha but that's the slightest chance there is,since you've been using it day-in, day-out for a whilei 'm guessing.
i think you'll have to think of a hyper threaded upgrade, i3, i5, i7 (lower series) are all really cheap. there was this bundle with the i3 (i'm using one btw) with a fine motherboard for 220 US
i hate to be critical but your video card is pretty old now too, does it support shaders 2.0 ?
id on't think there's anything software related, but you can give formatting a try
slow gameplay is nothing out of the ordinary for newer games and somewhat old systems unelss you played sc2 fine before ?

just a question about youtube.. were you trying to watch in HD.. cause with that old gpu and little ram it would sky rocket.

ugh... vista.. such a pig

sorry to be an ass here but.... if you're going to format, i'd reaelly... really suggest jsut getting a new processory u _ u

Dude P4's are like, completely outdated. They're well known for having some of the worst performance of all time. Get yourself a cheap AM3 mobo, 4gb of ddr3 and Athlon II x2, for like $200 you'll be able to play with no lag whatsoever. You also need to upgrade your video card. There are hundreds of choices so i won't pick one for you.

Yes. Its time for an upgrade.

You need to get a new computer, because to upgrade all of these things will cost more.
Really just get a new computer or make your own from newegg parts. The cheapest option is to make a new computer yourself which is easy and will only take a maybe 2 hours at most, but it will be a longer wait.

Building a computer > more efficient than store bought.

I have a quad core, and it eats up probably 70% (maybe 50, i don't remember...think it's 70)...but meh...just don't run anything else w/ it b/c it's not like you're going to be doing anything else while you play a game.
