Third Update (2/16): Beta forums for each language are all up at the moment! AND THEY LOOK FINISHED THIS TIME (at least some)http://forums.battle.net/welcome.html
For WOTLK beta started same day as forums were done Maybe beta tomorrow for my birthday?
Sorry if this isn't thread-worthy, but I feel it's better than tweets at least >.<
Not quite sure what's going on, but the above link leads to the (apparently unfinished?) Starcraft 2 Beta forums. No idea how long it'll be up if this is just some random mistake like the system requirements page that was taken down. But hell, it's progress... right?
C'mon guys, where is the optimism at? This is by far the clearest sign of an upcoming beta so far!! It's crystal clear they are preparing the forums and just use WoW as a Dummy. This together with the broadcast means BETA FOR SURE!!! I want more excitement.

I'm just going to be disappointed if the forum is down in the morning and Blizzard pretends it never happened
It's kind of hard to be optimistic or excited for the Beta after this long, so much hope has been crushed, been hurt too many times. I'm kind of over it, just waiting for the official announcement, but it does sound like it's getting really close.
Beta will at least be announced on Wednesday. They've been pushing out a lot of SC2 content lately, the updated FAQs and these Forums not to mention the screen on the Jace Hall show. You gotta skate.

Oh so you're implying they've actually done some work on finishing the game in the past 2 years? Thanks.
Well it seems like they could have easily done the work for the SC2 forum in private before putting an incomplete version up. Something tells me they wanted to give us the hint on purpose. I vote yes for beta. Also, the conference call that is being broadcast is scheduled for tomorrow (Feb 10).
IMO blizz have been pretty quiet about it for a while (i don't follow tweets) aswell as the website being in-active. Im very sure we will have beta soon.

keep in mind that Bnet 2.0 will run WOW also.. meaning if they are adding a SC2 beta forum, it wont be connected to the bnet 1 forums (where d2/sc/war3 is).. it would be connected to wow's forums.
If certain ppl think that the beta will come very soon (and with that I mean that they think they'll be able to play it in the next week or so ), just keep the following things in Mind: (yeah, I'm a bit a party-pooper right now I know). :S
1) Blizzard said that reporters etc. will be able to play the beta a bit sooner than everybody else. That means: Either we know about the beta maybe a week or a month before we can play it, or the reporters etc. are keeping the beta a secret and are actually playing it right now, which I highly doubt. (And I mean the "open-beta" version, if you can still call it that ^^')
2) Americans will get Beta sooner, Europeans etc. like me can cool their pants down a bit: You'll definetely have to w8 a bit longer.
3) Open-Beta doesn't mean open for everyone: I guess we can all imagine the huge number of ppl trying to get a beta-key; it would be physically impossible for Blizzard to distribute Key's to everyone that opted in at the new battle.net Beta-page. I guess players maybe have a 1:10 Chance (being VERY optimistic) to get picked if they don't already own a Betakey from contests or Blizzcon08. I really think that there are millions out there that really really want to play the SC2-Beta and opted in for the Beta and have a good enough PC to play it etc.
Of course I would be more than happy if we all could play the SC2-Beta tommorrow, but it's maybe better to be a bit more realistic so we don't have thousands of nerds jumping in front of trains when we hear sth disillusioning tomorrow (I guess tomorrow Blizz will give us hard facts about the Beta, at least thats the word on the street.)
While I wont dismiss the possible chance for a beta, like others I am not getting my hopes up with random tidbits of information. Heck Blizzard was pretty much ready to go into beta this last summer than realized that BNet 2.0 was no where close to release. I can remember in those summer months seeing small tidbits of information being leaked out and heavy hints that something was about to come and than total silence for a few months.
With all of the negativity being said... I still look forward to it a lot and hope I get a magical golden (beta) ticket.

man this has me pretty optimistic, but it's hard to get my hopes up after all the delays, not until I hear an official statement, and then my head will explode.
I dont think those are really similar.. The WOW one actually had a screenshot that looked semi real, with the blizz mod actually posting in regards to the msg itself. The one yesterday was just you saying "Yo some kid said he got an email OMG" which happens every single day on the bnet forums.. and the mod just giving you the generic copy/pasted answer.
i'd like to contribute my erection and perspiration to this pile of excitement. i'm naked and am not putting on any clothes until we get some real news here - tomorrow's phone call!

Well they did, kinda ridiculous they only gave it to only like 1000 (or was it more?) attendees. Guess they kinda realized Blizzcon was too much of a hit to give every single attendee a key now. :p

if we base it off this logical argument, we have to think that the beta would not be til AFTER the press conference but also blizzard does their betas early to mid week, so beta might not be out til Tuesday a week from now.

I just thought I'd check due to your wording of "Blizzard account". I got a Blizzcon 08 key before and registered it on the beta page. Do I need to create a Blizzard account for that email or assign it to my account in some form? I don't believe so according to the current beta FAQ.

Someone pushed the SC2 beta forums to the live server instead of the test server. I'd be excited if they weren't broken, but since they are it probably means it was just an accident and is not an indication of beta being pushed out soon. However if beta is released I'll gladly eat my words.
edit: releasing beta on valentines day would be such a cruel thing to do. there would be so many upset girlfriends!

i doubt it was a mistake, its probably for us to keep us interested. like that video with Dustin and his straw hat + sc2 beta in the background

And doesnt bnet always do scheduled maintaince on tuesdays?
scheduled maintenance is for wow, not for battle.net
I dont think so, I think its whole bnet web server (the new bnet, not classic), since the last 2-3 tuesdays it also happened. People freak out every tuesday, thinking its "OMGZZ BETA IS HERE!~!~!"
Do you actually think they have changes to the bnet site so major that the site needs to be taken down every week?
Can I assume your purely rhetorical response indicates you have no source and are just making your "protips" based on something you heard randomly somewhere and that it would make sense in theory?
all the updated unit models, the "leaked" photo of the dustin and them celebrating over the completed beta, and the only scheduled broadcast in the first quarter leads me to believe that they will announce it tomorrow.
You guys are getting your hopes up too much I really really want to believe but you will all be crushed when its not announced this week. I don't know for some reason I think they will never release the beta even though I know it will I still think i'll be in complete shock when they actually give a date and it arrives and people are playing. If I get in the beta miraculously will... No school for me that day

It's not exactly a "press" conference by the way, just an earnings report.
On the other topic: I can confirm the battle.net page is down every Tuesday. I know this from watching people freak out about it every Tuesay on SC2GDF, lol

Well, based on past calls we should at least get a "Starcraft 2 is on schedule" or "Starcraft 2 is delayed." If it's on schedule then beta has to start very soon =/
Poll: Beta in this week? (Vote): HELL NO!!! (Vote): WTF NO WAI!! (Vote): Forget it! (Vote): C'mon, stop dreaming, it's still Blizzard (Vote): Not before the hell freezes over!!! (Vote): Yes.

I don't think the forums being at the state that they are in is any more of an indication that we are very close to beta, which we already knew. If they do the work they can now, like setting up a forum, they practically have everything in place when the beta is actually ready so they don't have to wait for anything.

You know what sucks? Knowing that when we are finally able to download the SC2 beta, the servers are going to be so busy, I wouldn't be surprised if it took hours and hours to download. Assuming the servers don't downright crash. Though I suppose they are only allowing a certain number of people, and would presumably be able to have their servers in check...

I can't imagine them actually putting the whole website up with the forums and everything and not doing the beta in the same day. That would be the most cruel possible thing they could do at this point. Even at like 2AM, people would continue F5'ing their email for that smalll chance.

Blizzard's work day ends in 30 minutes.
Not only do we work until 6pm in this industry... you better believe they are pulling an all-nighter if the beta is ready to go.
The issue is... does it make sense to launch the beta when it's already getting late on the East Coast?

100% wrong. I've "known people who know people" who have said that they sometimes stay at work until very late at night.
Not sure if anyone mentioned this already or not, but the beta forums now have the FAQ posted. Seems to be exactly the same as the one leaked a few days ago.
The WoW: WoTLK beta started really late at night. I wouldn't be surprised if they launched a beta at 3 am PST sometime just because that's when it got ready.

Lol just from that info you're going to make a whole bunch of ppl stay up late tonight
Hello! The actual and updated plan is like this: Everyone that is in the first wave of invites will get an email when the Beta will start, not sooner. Yes, we're going to send out multiple waves of invites, so don't get your hopes down if you're not in the first wave!
And how did tha Envy guy get a SC2 account already? ... ;; did they send invites and I did not get in?!?019jro sjfaopsfjasglkef is it one of the blizzcon key users can you already log in wtf?
Maybe its those who won their beta key from a contest, were they able to already use the key on an account?
http://forums.battle.net/ takes you to the sc2 beta forums ONLY, lol. Additionally, on the www.battle.net site where you manage your account, there is a sc2beta icon next to your beta settings link.

Then again, i'm probably right about my original statement still.
At what time do the Blizz US office start? Maybe expect some more info during 1800-2200 CET Hopefully they indeed start the beta on the same day the forums are up like for WoW?
If they intend to release first half then they should not wait with beta till the end of this month

Yeah, that must have been your subconscious translating for you, as they only said it would be "this month." Now I completely understand why you would immediately translate that to "Feb 28th," but hopefully it'll be before the end of this week!
I think the beta is going to start this week, maybe even today.
Why even put up the forum one week ahead of time if the only purpose it would do is for the mods to "test" things before and then make the whole community just watch it. If i would be a developer the thing i would complete the last would be the beta forums as their one purpose is to let people give feedback on the game, and if the players don't have access to the game then they have no purpose at all.
Also following the trends of recent Blizzard beta releases, when a forum start is launched the beta mails are only couple hours away )
I think the big main clue right now is the fact that forums.battle.net leads to only the SC2 area, the forums are used normally for WC3, D2 and SC so why would they block those forums from easy view for just testing?
I heard that I can share resources and control over units in StarCraft II. How do I use these features?
When in a StarCraft II match, click the small icon in the top-right corner of the screen and use the check boxes to enable or disable shared unit control. You will be also able to share resources in this fashion once you are more than five minutes into a match.
Team Melee checkbox FOR THE WIN! I'm sure this ability will be incredibly useful for UMS map makers as well.
I think you guys are totally overreacting. All this proves is that the forums are ready or nearly ready for beta, do you really think the Beta was good to go but just waited on the Forums? it's a good sign that it could be close but nobody knows.
Like Browder said, it's waiting on the Q&A team to finish testing and approve it. Don't think that Beta forums going up doesn't has anything to do with that

On the other hand, you could say to yourself "one of the last priorities before releasing a beta is making sure the forums work . . ."
I mostly agree with you, but this definitely makes beta closer than ever
lets stop posting worthless meaningless posts ok thanks
A.I. Feedback: It seems that we are not currently able to play any A.I. difficulty setting other than "Very Easy," and this A.I. apparently doesn't build anything other than SCVs and buildings. After a 5 minute game, no actual units (excluding SCVs) were built by the computer.
wtf. i just edited my post. i found it on the bnet forums dont ban me ~~ it looked pretty legit to me but the marine looks mounted and me and my friend think its shopped
As an SCL staff member I will confirm that I am currently downloading the client myself. I have provided screens to other staff. I have not received a beta email yet however.
Gritten
That's from SCL staff member. I would hope they are above trolling us. It might be time to reopen that thread?
