The college system functions as an "unpaid" minor league system for the pros. The players, at least those with professional aspirations, don't benefit at all from the university system. They are better off with a proper minor league system. The coaches, athletic directors and other support staff benefit far more from the system. Just look at the fuckery involved in player transfers while the coaches can just jump from job to job without any repercussions. I propose removing the athletics fee from students' tuition first. Let's see how many students actually watch the games if they weren't forced to pay part of the ticket price already. If the boosters want a personal fiefdom tied to the university's name, they can do it solely with their own money. They should just do it like it is in Canada. No athletic scholarships. If the NBA wants a minor league system feeding their teams ready-made players they can create one themselves. the NHL and MLB managed to do this. I'm sure the NBA can do it as well. The current G-League already gets them half way there.

Andrewit nailed it, the colleges are the problems on so many levels. And they are the ones getting 95% of the benefits. They are not going to change unless they are forced to.

Even if the NBA builds a full minor league system there is still room for NCAA basketball. It'll more closely resemble NCAA baseball than it does now.

+ Show Spoiler + i was getting grilled about this today by a guy who has ingram in his fantasy league. TL;DR : The outlook for Ingram's injury is uncertain until they do more testing. Most guys are on blood thinners for 3 months after a clot. He can't play or practice during that time. If he gets a 2nd blood clot in less than a year he might have to call it a career. If the medical tests determine he has some genetic predisposition to blood clots his career might already be over.

I hate him because he is clearly an offensive genius in a straight up game, but he still resorts to slimy shenanigans even if he didn't have to. It is very rare to see a player-move shift the paradigm completely, but I honestly think we have undergone only three in the entire NBA history - 1. Jordan's aerial craftsmanship; 2. Curry's threes; and 3. Harden's footwork+shooting Isiah Thomas, the quintessential Jordan-hater, said it best, I paraphrase: Everybody in the league was shooting and dribbling and making layups and dunks, but MJ jumped, floated, sang a song, and MJ is till up there doing ballet on air against 2-3 defenders. Curry redefined what it means to be an "open" shooter, a "quick" shooter, and a "deep" shooter. As for Harden, he is like Kobe outside the Jordan mold. There is no doubt what he does is a travel violation, but it is so smooth and free-flowing and such an eye-candy that you have to question the rigidity of the text of the violation as written. Those who play ultimate will be familiar with this, as this is the same issue with the momentum rule, is it 2 steps after the catch, 3? 4? What if I was running 100m/.s? What if I make a hop and make a 1-2 before I stop? Visually, all of these look smooth and natural, but all violate the 2 steps rule. Going back to Harden and basketball, let us turn our attention to the "worst" of them all, the double stepback. Harden usually sets his stepbacks with a (1) lull dribble right to left, and (2) then left to right between the legs, changing speed depending on the defenders reaction, and (3) makes a small hop to disguise the pivot foot and delay the gather, the (4) presses with his right foot forward and (5) then plants with a left-right and pull. In his latest innovation, when he should plant after (4), he remains ever so slightly off balance that his left foot is used to launch further backward to do another right foot jab and the final left-right before the shot. All in all, thats a total of 6 steps after the dribble, but it all looks so smooth and logical that even Nunn and the league have tolerated it as it makes a mockery of its own rules. But I digress. The fact of the matter is, Harden is an annoying but gifted player, but he is not a statpadder like Westbrook or even Lebron. He is nowhere near an offensive genius imo. Harden's basketball is not eye candy and nothing about it looks logical. It looks incredibly disgusting actually and that's why Harden can only achieve a dumb award decided by journalists (who look like they never touch a basketball in their lives) like MVP. We have a league where 5'9" IT can average 30 ppg on high efficiency. Perimeter players can do whatever they want. You cant touch them, and refs swallow their whistles and the James Harden situation is the pinnacle of this. Youre right that he's tolerated by the league - that's only because the league realizes it can make money off of this lol. If harden played 10 years ago he'd be just another all star. Ill give you that he's better than chuckbrick, but he doesnt even sniff lebron's jock....and this is coming from a "lebron hater" edit: also, in terms of player moves, harden doesnt come close to being a game changer Jordan's mid air reverse Kareem's skyhook Shaq's black tornado Magic's no look pass Hakeem's dream shake Dirk's fade away Kobe's half spin

Great move by Chriss to trash talk Ibaka and get him ejected. I'll trade Chriss for Ibaka any day.

Trae Young committed the "micro aggression" of starring at an opponent after sinking a shot and was immediately ejected from the game. LOL. If Trae Young gets ejected for "starring" what does Ibaka and Chriss get? Life in front of a firing squad?

https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2019/03/04/trae-young-got-ejected-staring-his-opponents-back/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.be99db181bd1 Dunn said after the game that he was “stunned” at seeing Young get tossed. I'm sure we can find some university study someplace that links most american serial murderers to inappropriate starring behaviours in their early adulthood. The NBA needs to put a stop to this evil Trae Young behaviour before he turns into the next Ted Bundy.. More seriously though, if Trae Young gets ejected for that... what does Ibaka get? This is the problem with all this "zero tolerance" BS. You end up with substantial punishments for tiny to marginal infractions.

I'm not talking about the flopping and foul bating, but the mechanics of his footwork + stepback + shot. I mean, try to do this yourself. If you are right-handed, go the the right wing 3 point area, dribble right hand to left, side step left foot first then right, then pull up a three. Get back here and tell us how awkward that is? And that's just one move in his arsenal of footwork + shot setup. In fact, we can safely say that he can mix is all intuitively that it looks free-flowing watching him, despite being technically a travel. (The funny thing here is that Harden has become so proficient with this 3-4 step set up that its weird seeing him do a simple 1-2 jimbo.) Or try this as well, think of any variation of the Harden stepback, do it and record yourself doing it. Compare it to his and see how despite you doing the same, it will look different (unless you dedicate some time getting it right). Or better yet, do you play ball? Go try to play a game using Hardens moves and see how often you get blocked, have the ball stolen, or called for a travel. Try it. As to your other point Jordan's mid air reverse - Agree, all of Jordan is a game changer Kareem's skyhook - Id say we count only post 80 since 60s to 80s is young NBA and everything is still new Shaq's black tornado - maybe half an innovation, but this is size dependent Magic's no look pass - NOPE NOPE NOPE, see Pistol Pete, Boerwinkle, West. but Magic had the smile and flair! Hakeem's dream shake - possibly. Dirk's fade away - this is a good argument, or simply, Dirk as a prototype for the 7ft 3 point shooter Kobe's half spin - as a Kobe stan, he is up there, but he is MJ 2.0 so he gets only half a point

Thatd have been nice. | ||
