Dark, Trap, Parting, and Bunny are already seeded in because they were top 4, so they won't be in these qualifiers
Day 1 has already completed, 1st places went straight to Code S, 2nd place players went to Code A. The players who haven't qualified yet get another chance to qualify for Code A in Day 2, which will add 12 more players to Code A.
Day 1 was at Monday, Aug 02 8:00am GMT (GMT+00:00) Day 2 will be at Tuesday, Aug 03 8:00am GMT (GMT+00:00)
Seeded into Code S from previous season: Dark, Trap, Parting, and Bunny Qualified straight to Code S: Zoun, Maru, DRG, Rogue
Code A high seeds: Solar, Armani, Cure, Zest, Keen, ByuN, Ragnarok, and Dream Code A low seeds: Special, Ryung, Creator, Leenock, sOs, Gumiho, Classic, and Percival
FYI, Alpha X will provide a replay cast for these qualifiers, mainly qualifying matches from Day 1 and 2 on http://play.afreecatv.com/alphaxsc2 We should be casting them either on Thursday or Friday (to be announced).
ByuL is coming back? I guess he must be frustrated seeing Zerg winning Code S titles in this span of three years while he and soO cannot do so in the final.
Well, unless I'm reading it wrong, Zest still isn't in the military yet and Special didn't make it through qualifiers this time. NightMare seemed to do astonishingly well.
Code S starts 16 Aug, so 2 weeks from now. Can we infer that code A starts next week?
Special would probably make it to code A through the qualifer today. And I think Aug 16 is the starting date of Code A, code S starts 2 weeks after that.
GSL is starting to get quite stacked with legendary names again Just from the first day the notable participants who didnt advance = sOs, Byun, Dream, Ragnarok, Keen, Creator, herO, Gumiho... But also other returnees Classic, Leenock, ForGG, Byul. Hope some of them qualify there are 12 places left so there is a good chance most of them can do it.

He may qualify into top bracket if he defeat Dream. Guess what? It is quite an accomplishment for Sc2 players overall if he does that just mere two days after he finishes military service.
Classic is doing really well so far, really hoping Leenock and Gumiho make it! edit: oh right, Classic already qualified, the match against Dream was just for seeding!

well he's been practicing longer than that, it's just that he wasn't allowed to have another job or source of income until now, but yea it's still amazing

I'm closely following ByuL's bracket and he should be going up against Gumiho and then either Hush/ForGG in the final qualifying match. Honestly I think its doable and also funny how the final 4 is just consisting of players who retired and then came back xD
update: ByuL beat chance 2-1 (a 6k korean protoss) and moves on to face gumiho in likely his biggest hurdle.
Update 2: byul lost 1-2 to gumiho... Now we have to wait until 2022 for another GSL season right? This feels so devastating I demand more ByuL.

one trick pony!? in his last 3 gsls dudes made ro16, ro8, and a ro4. dude definitely deserves code s as he once again qualifies 2-0ing cure and 2-0ing keen.
So the notable un-seeded are Special, sOs, Classic, Leenock and possibly Gumiho. sOs and Classic can knock off some seeded Terran imo, will be interesting to see the bracket.

Gumiho vs ByuL is a tough match though, I expect the winner to beat ForGG and thus qualify
I also expect herO to beat Ryung which would mean he qualifies
Oops and then Ryung beat herO lol
The only remaining players now are Gumiho, ByuL, and ForGG
Gumiho vs ByuL must be an epic match because it's been going on for a while lol
My guess is technical difficulties instead of really long games. Though ByuL was very good at playing the hour long games in HotS, forcing terrans into mech, and GuMiho likes to mech it happen.

he made it on the back of his ZvT. as he did yesterday

Ok but he also got eliminated from gsl last season getting 3-0d by bunny. I don't think he's a zvt otp. Is it his best? Probably! But that doesn't mean he doesn't deserve code s or can't play other matchups.

I think PAtience registered but never showed up for the qualification. Hurricane just "dissapear" from the competition, just like how he dropped out from the KR play-in for DH Summer.

That's too bad. I was hoping he could have one more good showing before he left. Now I'll have to hope for some stalkers blinking into the TvZ finals.
Anyways, Classic and Gumiho back is nice, I'll be interested to see how they perform. Plus Percival is now qualifying regularly. He can probably make it back into Code S.

idk about Percival making it back to Code S, he's a lower seed and the top seeds are all looking good

what should we call them? are they vintage players, returnees, veterans, seniors?

I don't think you know what One Trick Pony means. It's not the same as One Hit Wonder.
What you've described is consistency, and no one is doubting DRG's consistency. In fact he's extremely consistent. He's consistently doing the same thing to beat Terrans and he's consistently losing to Protoss.
I like DRG, I think his playstyle is fun to watch. He's kind of like a better Ragnarok. But beating Terrans with Ling Bane Muta can only take you so deep into a tournament. It's obviously very hard to fight against as a Terran and he does it very well. But with good practice and control, it's not unbeatable, and Bunny proved that last season.
If you only have one army composition, you don't deserve to be seeded into Code S is all I'm saying.
Out of all these returning guys I honestly had the highest hopes for herO. And him not qualifying against Ryung in his best match up by miles, that's brutal...

I was going to call them classic players, but then one of the players I was listing was Classic...
I think veterans makes sense, since they're both veterans of the game as well as the military.

I don't see that as a downside. It's fun having casters struggle with player names that would otherwise come up in casts (TIME, Nice, Patience, etc.) and this seems like an extension of that.

I got curious after you said this and looked back through 2020 Season 1; since then, he has had 2 series wins against non-terrans, and they were both against Dear. It's kind of interesting, how he does make these deep runs but off the back of drawing only terrans. I'm still happy for him because he seems to be a nice guy in the scene.
