That would be sOs, Stats, Dark, and Inno.
32 players will be qualified so I think Top 4 last year will have to go through qualification process like everyone else. I guess they will get the seeds in group selection. That is all.
May the non-Korean Terrans get Protoss, the non-Korean Zergs get Terran and Protoss, and the non-Korean Protoss get Zergs. All I want for Christmas is 32 Koreans in the GSL.

Race and balance matters a lot less for something like this than exactly who they have to beat tbh.

You don't need 32 Koreans. Just rig the groups to keep the foreigners out and let less skillful albeit Korean players in instead.

Well, the participants in the bracket are blank so far, but the winner is already shown - it is the famous TBD, whom I have never seen yet live. Hopefully, we will see him offline this time in the groups when he has won it all ...

There are easily more than 32 koreans. Last season we had 5 foreigners get in but guys like Zest, Byul, MMA, Nightmare, Trust, Billowy, Pet, Super, Creator, Myungsik etc were all absent
Are there 32 that are better than any foreigner? That's the real question

Yes, but it is easier to say that than to say that I want SpeCial to get a group with Stats and Zest, Scarlett to get a group with INnoVation and Cure, Neeb to get a group with Dark and ByuL, etc. all of which are theoretically possible due to how they seed groups due to past performance.

Do we know the reason for the different formats in days 1 vs 2? Curious why they would make one day double elimination and the second day single elimination. Do they expect many more people on day 2? I saw that you can participate in both days, but that doesn't quite explain it.
Also, the format on the liquipedia page is different from the one on OP, which makes it sound like both days are part of a single tournament.

Didn't every qualifier last year have ~70 participants? I'm sure it'll be enough unless the qualifiers being over two days discourages a lot of people.

It would be good for the korean scene because the low-mid tier koreans are struggling for money and are probably on the brink of retirement while the foreigners playing in GSL aren't struggling at all and are abusing the current unfair system in which they are allowed to compete in korea but koreans aren't allowed to compete abroad just to get some free extra cash.

Basically this. The eligibility requirement for playing in the WCS Circuit should be not being in the current GSL season. That means if players want to play in the GSL, they have to go all in on Korea. It would also possibly mean lower tier Koreans could try their hand in the circuit without having to commit permanently like TRUE.

While I want GSL to be strictly the highest skill players, foreigeners are free to compete in all events whereas koreans are limited to the WCS KR ones. So it makes sense to favour koreans over foreigners purely because they're korean
Put it this way, it's sad to see mid-tier koreans get knocked out and be unable to play in anything while foreigeners of similar level are playing in both regions

Foreigners are free to compete in all events if they are willing and able to put in the time commitment of being available in Korea for (possibly) the entire duration of the GSL. The requirements for participating in WCS and GSL aren't symmetrical, but they haven't been at any point really.

It's admirable that NoRegreT goes for a fourth and fifth base. He doesn't send workers to mine from them though, so it's basically a ling-bane-hydra all-in off five hatches, but it's the thought that counts.

They're macro hatches for more lings
Absolutely. That's what's annoying about zerg. They can go for all-ins and half the viewers think it's macro due to all the extra hatches.

They can still compete in the other WCS korea events like IEM Shangai or Super tournament. And given that many of them stay in korea to practice anyway, GSL isn't a difficult commitment
The fact is foreigers can compete in more events than koreans, so it will always be sad when koreans are eliminated from their home events by them. Makes the entire region lock look questionable.
Symbol winning the first game against NoRegreT is mildly surprising, since it isn't clear how much Symbol plays nowadays. Not too surprising though since it's still ZvZ and you should never count out a TSL player with a roach.
I'm kinda surprised that NoRegreT went for a similar ling/bane flood to help harass/deny the third as he went for in game 2. Trap seems to like the stargate into adept stuff that's becoming more and more standard (and the version with two oracles at that), which seems pretty good against these floods.

Does anyone know why today gets full double elim., whereas tomorrow gets double elim. only from the ro4 onwards? Seems a bit odd, though the format is still without a doubt a vast improvement over the previous format.

Since today. It's a massive improvement at least.

There haven't been any big tournaments since 4.0 so I'm not sure how you can hold that against Inno (or any other player). They've all been holding qualifiers. As you say, there aren't many significant results at all, so judging based on past performance seems reasonable.
Either way, it's quite a stretch to say Inno is not in the Top 3.

If you put Inno off the map because of that though, considering Inno was the only Terran who won his group today (and it was arguably the hardest one at that), where do you even put everyone else?
On December 26 2017 21:49 DieuCure wrote: Yes but INnoVation isn't top 3.
I'd say being #1 means you're part of the top 3.
Based on the results only, TY is first, based on talent, Cure is number 1, TY 2 and Maru 3.
So I don't how you put INno #1
Probably because Inno has won twice as many big tournaments as TY, Cure, and Maru combined.
To be fair he doesn't have any in this patch. The only significant results so far are TY and Inno qualifying for GSL, and Maru qualifying for WeSG
Either way, it's quite a stretch to say Inno is not in the Top 3.

Original context was "top 3 Terran," and my usage of "Top 3" was referring to that

There is a legitimate argument for Inno not being Top 3 overall–I would put him around Top 5-10 myself–but not Top 3 Terran is a big stretch. Claiming that some of Rogue, Dark, herO, Zest, or Stats are currently stronger than Inno is perfectly reasonable.

Lol I know I meant because Inno has a history of falling of the map when terran is underpowered. Even compared to other terrans he seems to perform badly

They really shouldn't make brackets before players check in. Group B should not happen when half the other groups have half the better players no showing.

How good was his whining?
as good as innovation, but with fairer logics, only whining for PvZ

Yeah. Looks like they've fixed the brackets. That makes a lot more sense.

Nah Patience knows NoRegreT decently well (in fact I think Patience is going to move into the foreign house soon), which makes it all the more puzzling.

Except for the part where neeb won 6 times in a row against her before the last patch, before losing that bizarre off-race series.
Since the patch, though, I think it's less the all-ins and more PvZ not being as figured out (before this patch, protosses were doing extremely well with mass oracles and the various chargelot archon immo builds) + Sasha just being really sick at the mind games and execution. Wish we could've seen those Noregret games though

kinda sad but true ^^ scarlett is ahead in series 17-15 vs neeb while he has a 63-60 game advantage. they overall kinda trade series', but scarlett won their last 3 encounters (neeb won 5 in a row before that, scarlett won 4/5 before that etc,). either way, claiming that zerg cheese is very strong with neeb losing to it as example is a pretty pointless claim^^ furthermore generally complaining about something without actually having seen what and how it happened (talking about noregratz vs patience) is even more pointless

We did see NoRegreT vs Trap and the games he won were a 16/16 ling flood, and a baneling bust. Besides it's NoRegreT so it's obviously going to be Zerg cheddar.

Greedy retired players like Leenock and Byul plus foreigners like Sortof ( yes he ruined Rookie's life to be 0-4ed then and compete in WCS anyway ), or cheesers like NoRegrets are ruining the scene, the bracket are disturbed because of them, all of the same race curiously.
