BO for a 7 roach burrow rush (A bit 1 minute later than a 7 roach rush, but you have burrow move)
BO: 10 SpawningPool 9 Extractor 10 Overlord 10 +1 Drone on gas 10 ExtractorTrick 9 +1 Drone on gas 9 +1 Drone on gas 16 Lair 16 Extractor 15 RoachWarren 14 +1 Drone on gas 14 +1 Drone on gas 14 +1 Drone on gas 14 Overlord 14 +1 Drone on minerals 14 TunnelingClaws 14 Roach 16 Burrow 16 +1 Drone on minerals 16 +1 Drone on minerals 16 Roach 18 Overlord 18 Roach 20 Roach 22 Roach 24 Roach 26 Roach
(It's a bit exacting, but hey, these algorithms, what can ya do?)
Do you think there is any merit to this? Or is it the equivalent of zerg DT rushing my opponent? (I play toss, this is mostly just as a curiosity)
With respect to economy, I'll have 16 drones or so when the roaches finish, and ideally, I could do some econ damage to my opponent.
|
What else do you have then? Just drones, a queen, overlords and roaches?
|
Why would you spare the details of the build and then ask for an opinion on it. Please add some more to the OP so that people (smarter than me) can look at it and give you adequate feedback. Perhaps a replay?
|
|
so you didn't put a BO or a replay, seriously?
I can make 100 zerlings at 1:00 but I don't have a BO or replay, so you'll just have to take my word.
But really, do you skip ling speed? Do you make a queen?
|
Sorry sorry. The OP has been edited to include the BO, which is constantly changing because it's made by that genetic algorithm. I'm sure it'll be done in a day or so. Current end point is 6:14.

I was thinking of a similar build but more with more econ and a second roach warren to get speed and tunneling claws at the same time, i need to refine it more though :
9 overlord 14 gas 14 pool 15 overlord Queen as pool comes up + 2 lings to deny scouting. Lair as soon as queen pops. 21 expand. lay down 2 roach warrens when lair is ~50% done 2nd gas Drone to ~30 + 2nd queen at expand When lair pops research burrow + roach speed + Tunneling claws From there spam roaches.
Something like that, but I need to refine it a bit more before testing it in real conditions.

Hmm sounds interesting, you could burrow damaged roaches so they regenerate heeath.
|
I'm pretty sure, you could get an infestor/ x infestors and burrow out faster, and infestors have burrow movement. This would also give you the ability to get a much better econ up. You could also add a Roach Warren in the BO to be more safe against early rushes.
...just a thought....

The problem is that on higher levels, zerg gets harassed early to counter 15 hatchery. In the early stages of SCII, zerg always putted on the early pressure. Now things have changed and I think that your 7RR+burrow won't help zerg much in the current situation.
Also, terran with wall-in + 1 banshee can ruin your day.

i think if the roaches are scouted they'll throw in some anti armore units, making burrow micro really intense if they are able to one shot your roaches.if they can't kill your roaches fast enough, maybe marines only or some more sentry zealot it would prolly work. so seeing the reaction to the roach warren would be important i guess. I like the roach push since its an easy win if you scout it.
But burrow is always annoying. If you manage to get into the enemy base that is ^^. Well you have the timing when the upgrade is ready, so test out other standart build orders if they would react to a roach warren. I personally get a bunker and a few marauders and save a scan + expansion. Or double gas banshees.
|
Leaves you very vulnerable to air units. Getting burrow really early might be sufficient, as it also makes your Zerglings alot more annoying.
I also tried to figure out a build for fast ninja roaches, but all of them seem to be more vulnerable to early game pressure / gimmicky openers (fast dt / cloaked banshee).

Burrowed roaches/infestors has wrecked me on blistering sands. I'd think it's more of a mid game plan than a rush plan, and only if you have a sneaky way into your opponent's base. I see this working better against terran. (Since, after a time, most terran's don't bother with keeping their wall air tight 24/7)
Still feels gimmicky to me.

burrowed roaches are way better in the midgame when its OMFG, roaches, in the mineral line, of the nat.
