Not quite streaming but already the community/live chat aspect, maybe that was the progression, I don't know for sure tho. (And I suppose chat only forum doing live commentary of event or tv show could be sort of a proto streaming in a way) | ||

I guess the essential difference between live-streaming online and on cable tv is that the division of labour is different. The production can just be done by one person while the technology behind the broadcasting is generally in corporate hands. | ||

General streaming of media (as in fetching media data on demand rather than storing the file locally), I'm not so sure about. | ||
