Hello and Good day to the TL community, I am currently living in Kuwait working as a nurse and a native of the Philippines.

Since the early 90's to 2000, Philippines as a E-Sport country focus mainly on offline competitive plays whether on pubs or laptops connected on a network on a friends' crib. Online gaming as a whole started with the introduction of PH's first MMORPG, RAGNAROK ONLINE. I remember the hype it make when it started rolling out the net with thousands of Pinoys enjoying its first multiplayer online game. It started May 2003 and running up until now.

Yearly the company that started it, hosted an event which brings gamers all over the Philippines to enjoy the company of friends, meet up with other gamers and enjoy the festivities it brings. I remember the first time I was able to attend the event and I was amaze how people are hooked up to E-Sport in a country which roughly 3/10 household have a Gaming PC and a suitable internet connection. They even hosted RWC (Ragnarok World Championships) which features RO players around the world.

Today, as many of you have heard, the Philippines suffered devastating calamities this past months, with a magnitude 7 earthquake and a category 5 typhoon HAIYAN. Many of the people including children and even infants are now homeless and less food to eat and even clean water is hard to find. Electricity for the whole island is out and may take several months to restore. For a gamer like me that is like taking away one of my basic needs. I know a lot of you can understand their situation and to tell you a lot of help has come to aid the homeless and the people in need, but nothing is enough until people from these places got up to their feet and started to walk through their hardships.

I am asking the good community to help us through this tough times. Every dollar you can donate means a lot to the families affected by this calamities.

The conditions there is really sad and they need all the help. I will definitely donate.

I almost got to play on RWC in 2001. Lost in the finals of the Brazilian nationals (the winner went to the Philippines to represent the country), and that's how I started in eSport. I never had as much fun as when I played Ragnarok... the best time ever, and I thank Philippines for that.

The Philippines has one of the most vibrant esports scenes in the world. Filipinos are passionate about gaming, and passionate about life. Right now, they need our help.

If you are able to, please consider donating something to the relief efforts!

Charity Navigator provides a good list of reputable charities that are helping in the area.

Thank you TeamLiquid! <3
I don't think I've ever wished my opponent good luck prior to a game. When I play, I play to win. I hope every opponent I ever have is cursed with fucking terrible luck. I hope they're stuck playing underneath a stepladder with a black cat in attendance a

Thank you for making the thread.

Don't do this for esports guys and gals, do this for people who need help.

I can't support these charities financially, but i do give my time. If you are broke like me, look up your local branch of any of these charities and ask how you can help. They are always looking for more volunteers to run campaigns etc.
The world is ending what should we do about it?

Just to add some info to anybody who's curious how bad the situation is.

First of all, most of the victims live along the coast where their main livelihood is fishing. They were warned about how strong the typhoon is and evacuated to to make-shift evac centers and prepared. Now, when they said the typhoon is 'strong', it is so fucking strong. Howling winds deafens your hearing and waters rose to a couple of feet per minute. Many of the victims evacuated to schools and didn't anticipate the sudden rise of the water that they were trapped inside, mostly children and old people since they weren't fast enough to get out. Every house or structure in the vicinity hit by typhoon had their roofs ripped off.

Day 0 after the typhoon was chaos. It was every man for himself. Malls were looted, people stole, crime was rampant. Police were not found since they themselves are tending to their family or dead. Relief was very slow (but understandable). Philippines is an archipelago and the only way to get to the island is by boat or by plane. First they did was clear the airstrip of airports since they were riddled by debris. Even when the airport was safe to land, they couldn't get to the towns since the road is littered with debris and the dead. They couldn't just bulldoze the dead out of the way. Electricity was down, clean water is scarce, order was yet to be found. Relief trucks were even hijacked by desperate people.

It's just a short version of what happened. It's kinda sad and depressing. People left and might not comeback since there's nothing to go back to.

This thread is a couple of days late for me. Haven't got anything to give at this time of the month

That's the kind of predicament you get into when you earn $470/month and have 2 kids to feed...
Time is precious. Waste it wisely.

Thanks guys. Most donations go straight to our department of social welfare and development and FOR ONCE the gov't is being transparent about the spending (or so we hope). We're actually going to have a website to show how much is being donated and how much is going where.

GMPGL w/ GoDz and WinteR can certainly testify to that...

This is how we do it in the Philippines!

Also, try to find organizations that DO NOT WANT to deal with the government and go directly to affected areas; any government interference is basically them trying to extort something out of aid efforts.
