I have a rather low opinion of politics in Australia nowadays. That being said I would vote for Labor because just not Abbott.
EDIT: Hey triple sevens. EDIT: Actually no I'll vote Greens 1 but Labor 2 but a Greens vote is pretty much wasted but on the off chance neither of the two big parties get in and someone with a (hopefully existent) spine gets in...
this pretty much sums up my thoughts, and pretty much how i voted last election.
unfortunately at ballet time we don't collect data that says verbatim 'i think the options are fucking pathetic', however i'd say a large chunk of voters would agree with that statement. certainly 10% agreed strongly enough to vote greens last time.
if you told me at the end of last election that both gillard and abbott would still be leaders next election, i wouldn't believe it. how the fuck is this possible. i should enter politics. just what the fuck. they are the two biggest non-entities politics has ever seen, surely.
as winston churchill would say, "An empty car pulled up in front of Parliament this morning, and jullia gillard / tony abbott got out."
if only paul keating were there to dump some scathing remarks on them..

Greens vote might peak again. I wouldn't be that surprised. If only because people don't want to vote the other two haha.
Anyway, we'll see how the lead up goes. As far as heads go Julia should still be coming in stronger, not that I've seen a public poll lately. But since she announced the election I'm sure the news will read out different polls twice a day for the next few months.
The sun had a poll with something like 90% would vote liberal, granted that is a news paper biased against labor. I will be surprised if labor wins.
In terms of polls, the Coalition has a lead according to the latest newspoll.
Compulsory voting combined with raging anti-votes react hilariously. In a country where where voting isn't required like the US these rage voters would normally just be included into the part of the population that couldn't be bother going out to the ballots. But in STRAYA... it makes thing hilariously unpredictable.
I would vote liberal almost straight-away if they admitted labour had the right idea on the NBN. Unfortunately, the opposition is obliged to disagree on everything, so I'm 50/50.
Also, I feel like the libs could declare victory almost instantly if they booted Abbot in exchange for Turnbull.
Whoever wins this election will subsequently lose the next few elections.
If Labor wins, Libs will surely get rid of Abbott. Turnbull will take power and sack Abbott's henchmen (Bishop, Pyne, Hockey), and form a decent frontbench. Labor will undoubtedly continue to have fuck-ups, and when a non-Abbott alternative is available, people will vote for Libs.
If Libs win, Abbott and his henchmen are now in the media spotlight, with weekly fuck-ups ensured. Labor reshuffles, gets rid of Gillard, Swan, Bowen et al. Mike Kelly (leader of the opposition) forms a decent front bench and after 3 years in government the public has had enough of Abbott, landslide victory for Labor.
Ok my predictions are a bit theory-crafting, but honestly I think the party that loses will be stronger in the long term (srs)

Ideally I'd like both parties to dramatically improve, but that would be me dreaming

What exactly is the difference between the Labor and Liberal immigration policies?
Penny Wong is a bitch, in the same way that payback is a bitch. That woman is saving the party through sheer unfuckablewithness. It's a word. Look it up.
i could say "lets just feed them rice and cheese" and call it a policy.
quite a difference between policy, and useful, working an effective policies
The irony in your post is that the current Liberal policy is the same as the Howard era policy that was actually proven to be an effictive and working policy, at least in terms of reducing the number of immigrants arriving by boat.
But the Liberal policy is certainly open to criticism on humanitarian grounds, which for me makes labor's current position so much more difficult to fathom.

1. I think I will call Australia STRAYA from now on 2. That is the best thing I have read about elections ever, I can only imagine how stressing that must be to political parties to not be assured spots in government unlike here in MURIKA.
I'm curious if the Liberals are winning this poll just based on non-Australians assuming they're the left wing option. The economy's doing really well considering the global climate and the Liberals immigration policies are a national disgrace. Regardless, I'm pretty confident Abbot can't go an entire campaign without shooting himself in the foot.

You do know liberals are leading in the polls too don't you? God forbid people have opinions other than your own.

God forbid calling out both parties as well. Maybe he's just blind to the string of public relations disasters that Gillard has left behind her recently.
I can't bring myself to vote for either party. I can't stand Gillard, but unfortunately, I am even less inclined to have Abbott as PM. Ill probably vote Greens as a way of psychologically dealing with this trauma.
