You can watch an uncensored version here http://www.theguardian.com/world/video/2014/may/15/what-did-christopher-pyne-call-bill-shorten. It's pretty hard to tell if he said it or not, tbh, but it's amusing to think he did, the grubby cunt.

Also, Warren Truss and Joe Hockey messed up pretty bad yesterday, slagging off pensioners and poor people respectively

Overhauling the tax system comes up every year and nothing ever comes of it. No guts from anyone.

I'm not a fan of the Coalition right now, but it really is pretty easy to put this kind of thing together for most politicians. They get so much stuff thrown at them on camera that they're bound to give some dumb responses. The problem isn't that Abbot is dumb - he's not, he's quite intelligent, as pretty much anyone has to be to get the job. The problem is that he's a hardline lunatic who got into office on the back of party-room politics and an "anyone but the current lot" voter mentality.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott says we have all benefited from Britain’s original foreign investment because Australia was “unsettled” before the British arrived. Delivering the keynote address at The Australian-Melbourne Institute conference on Thursday night, Mr Abbott was asked about the importance of foreign investment in residential real estate and its contribution to economic growth. Mr Abbott said it was a contentious issue, and also an “emotional” one, because “if I want to sell my place [then] foreign investment might make sense, but if my neighbour wants to sell his place [then] foreign investment might be the last thing we want”. When explaining why foreign investment was so important for a country like Australia, Mr Abbott said the country would be unimaginable without it. “As a general principle we support foreign investment. Always have and always will,” he said. “Our country is unimaginable without foreign investment.” “I guess our country owes its existence to a form of foreign investment by the British government in the then unsettled or, um, scarcely settled, Great South Land,” he said. Based on the fact that the new one at least believes climate change is real, and supports gay marriage, I'd say it's a positive improvement. I could be proven wrong, though, since I'm not familiar with him at all.

Turnbull's big challenge is bringing the party together as well as communicating a better plan to the public.

Turnbull represents some hope for a more progressive country but he has to deliver now. He won't succeed in charm alone.

Sorry but Economy is more important than Gay Marriage and a 20 Mil population climate debate.

The biggest issue in Australian politics is this leadership malaise. Every leader for the past decade has experienced a sharp dip in popularity and the culture within the major parties is such that a few weeks/months of bad polling is enough to cause instability. The instability widens already existing divisions within the parties and before you know it there's a change of leader who enjoys a brief honeymoon before the cycle begins anew. People here are tired of it. This is the second prime minister we've had in 3 years that we didn't vote for. It'll happen to Turnbull too, a significant part of the party loathes him and while he'll probably get clean air up until the election he'll be dusted if they lose and dusted if they win and he experiences a mid-term dip in the polls. As to why? I think its a combination of a general lack of public interest in politics combined with a decidedly average batch of politicians. The public pays less attention to the base level of political debate, which motivates average politicians to further dumb down their messages/policies which further turns off the public. Their motivations are almost always completely internal (doing what's best for their careers or for their party) and the focus of their policies and messages is almost always on how bad the other side is, very rarely is a visionary or (dare I suggest) hopeful sentiment delivered. I followed politics pretty closely in my early 20s, but I'm completely sickened by it now and I think the majority of the electorate is too.

Also, anyone talking about the budget needs to walk down the street and check out some of the house prices, the conclusion writes itself.

I equate it to the rise of social media and the worsening of journalistic standards, We have more people than ever before thinking they get their countries politics cause they read an article or 2 they saw on facebook, or they sub to a clever or funny guy on youtube who talks politics, They dont once think... maybe these journalists or funny guys might be biased, they just jump on the bandwagon, what makes worse is they then tell anyone with opposing views to their own, that they only read bias media... it drives up a wall the amount of far left leaning americans i see shit on fox for being biased, but link Theguardian or Nbc like they're patron saints of political coverage... Hell I dont like labour or the liberals at the moment, but the amount of conversations i've had that went pretty much like this... Guy: Fuck yeah abbots gone! Me: aw yeah? whys that make you happy? Guy: he's a cunt! Me: whys he a cunt? Guy: he just is... Me: did he do something that messed with your life? free trade? environment? submarines? Guy: nah nah, you see him bite into a raw onion? what a tosser! Me: so your happy hes gone cause he did something weird? Guy: nah nah... its funny tho... but yeah hes a cunt! Me: k... At least have a valid reason for hating someone guy... The only reason i can see a lot of people do this and did this same thing to Julia, Howard and a shit ton to Abbot is cause they see a bunch of other people doing it, Hell more than half the "anti abbot" facebook pages/groups I've seen these past two years dont even attack his policies and some are reeeeally easy to attack, they attack him personally, budgie smugglers... shaved legs for riding... onion... weird faces... Sure there's some people out there who genuinely have reasons to be upset at any PM left or right... but god the majority voice narrative on social media on any politics post in any first world country on either political side is petty sad and downright unintelligent... Whats the shittiest part of democracy? The average voter. /rant

Abbott was actually one of the key proponents of the dumbing down of political debate. Stop the boats. Axe the tax. End Labor waste. Four syllables was apparently all we could comprehend, but these are all enormous issues that demand more time and respect than a mere soundbyte (I don't think Labor would have been any better btw). They talk in slogans because they don't actually have any idea of how to address nuanced issues and are just throwing politically palpable words to con to public into voting for them. Maybe Malcolm will change some of that but I'm not holding my breath.
