Much prefer this kind of FPS to the "headshot all day every day" kind of gameplay that Halo promotes. Too bad about the stupid RPG mechanics though (thanks CoD) but I guess you gotta give your game some reason to have microtransactions.

It should, I bought CoD and the multiplayer is just a massive game of quickdraw. Whoever shoots first, wins. Tribes is so much cooler.

Tribes: Ascend is the shizz! Been playing it for a couple of weeks now and I'm having an absolute blast. Never had so much fun with an FPS before.

It'd probably really come down to how good the camera observing options are, and the ability of the observer, though I would think. As for the game itself, I don't like a lot of what they did and it's not as good as previous Tribes, but it is still way better than another other competitive FPS you're gonna play. The Tribes series has been ahead of it's time for like 14 years now, and somehow other developers have yet to really pick up on it. It's a truly unique experience, and if you can get through the learning curve, you're in for a lot of good times. I think the complexity of the game could appeal to SC players. You're not just walking around, looking forward for a person to point and shoot at. The movement alone is a game in itself. Plus you have you track your enemies not only on the X/Y axis, but they could be anywhere above you too. And then shooting doesn't just let you point and shoot, you have to place your shot ahead of the enemy because of the projectile speed. So basically you're required to anticipate an enemy's trajectory and accurately aim ahead of it WHILE he flies like a crazy man in any direction above/below you WHILE you are trying maneuver perfectly along the slopes of the hills as you zoom at them 200 km/h. Oh and there are probably 2 other people and a turret shooting at you that you're gonna have to be dodging as well. And this isn't even the game, this is just what you have to do to kill someone! Yes, it is a tad bit more complex than turning a corner and pointing your cursor at a giant slow target in front of you while you click your shoot button. Please try Tribes. EVERY PC version of Tribes is now FREE even! (Tribes 1, 2, Vengeance, and Ascend). It really is the greatest FPS out there. If any shooter game were worthy of standing beside Starcraft, this is it!

I'm not saying the game is bad but it just does not appeal to me. Maybe that's the reason why I'm not a big fan of Battlefield. Rather play some more fast paced Quake games.

Play TDM or CaH if CTF is too slow for you.

Back in the day I loved some T2 but like other folks have said, it's kinda tough to obs tribes. It's very possible for even a lay person to understanding what's going on but the excitement really is in playing it as opposed to observing (I feel like that's the opposite of SC). We had a tight community that enjoyed casts but it didn't reach a broad market. When we would go back and watch casts of our games and see what the commentators were saying, it was often the case that they couldn't see/understand the considerations driving the player's actions because the tiny details perceived by one player can have huge effects on the game, but can't practically be processed by commentators. It's especially challenging to communicate the nuanced details and effects of a given route. It'll be interesting to see how they do but I can't help but feel like Hi-Rez just bought this position and are trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. PS: I hate pay to win >:

There are some really unique and wonderful things about tribes gameplay and that's why people keep trying to resurrect it, but it always seems to land just a couple steps short of greatness. The skill cap on tribes has always been way way beyond the reach of the best of the best and it actually requires a ton of multi-tasking to move well, aim well, stay aware, and act as a team all at the same time. Other games just don't have the same level of challenge in the teamwork and movement areas... or the aim for that matter. Overall I <3 tribes :D

Casters always go on about "xxx is the star chaser in team yyy" but I never actually get to see him chase apart from once or twice a game where the observer chooses to pan to him.
