Haven't played wow for some years now and I don't intend to ever play it again. However, I really did like the Battleground aspect of the game, and I'm missing the 3rd person, multiclass based PvP to be honest!
Have you played or heard of any games reminiscent of the wow battlegrounds?
P.S. I know about DOTA and all it's clones
Edit: Oh yes sorry, i should have added that I don't wan't to start some other MMORPG, it's the concept of the BGs I love and the grinding and leveling i'm tired of .
Have you looked at Bloodline Champions? The game is getting pretty big in Europe. You should definitely give it a shot.
There are modes like Arena, Conquest (Capture the Area), and Capture the Artifact(Flag). There about 20 different characters that can be played. Team compositions usually have a tank, support, and damage, yes, tanks are actually viable in this game. There are in-game tournaments every day.
Pretty much every MMO that has been released since WoW has got some form of battleground in it rly, you are kinda spoiled for choice if that's all you want
Have you tried Mount and Blade: Fire and Sword Its large scale medeival battles with up to 200 players. You can choose between infantry/ranged(muskets or bows)/and cavelry I got it off steam for 14.99 and I gotta tell ya...its really addicting.
the graphics arn't the best but if you give it a shot im sure youll enjoy it. This is what WoW bg's always should have been in my opinion!
Sadly there's no such game :< I'm also looking for something similar. BLC is very good, like a promod for WoW arena, but the scope, struggle and fun of open world PvP and to some extend battlegrounds that you find in MMOs like WoW has yet to be captured in stand alone title.
Can't believe "3D DOTA" (non-perspective locked) hasn't been made yet.
I've been waiting for one since the dawn of time. Guild Wars and WoW were the only ones I've actually liked though the dota-likes are ok. I think the only one to look forward to is Guild Wars 2. I've always thought Blizzard should just release Warcraft: Battlegrounds where you just pick a class, distribute its skill points and join a game of Arathi Basin.

What'd be the point of that? You might as well play wow then. I really don't see what the big problem with just playing wow is. It's got the very BG's you want and if you do get bored of that, you can do other stuff.
And really, the grinding isn't that bad. Spend a month getting to 85 and learning you class and you're good to go. It's basically like climbing the ladder of SC2. Not much point getting thrown in at 85 first. Start off slow and get there. Really not that big a commitment, it isn't that expensive, assuming you have a job.

I'll second this. I've actually never played it, so I can't recommend it personally, but from what I've watched/read, this game is very BG-eque.
EVE Nowhere else can you just come to after a hard day pack up some cheap ass thing and go out to ruin some poor fools day.
Wars rage and the actions you do one day affect the worlds of hundreds of thousands of other people. Not the devs and their retarded "events" But you take your friends and their friends and take whats someone else's. And when you have something you must fight to keep your home.
