XellOs showed some astonishing play on Zodiac vs rA. He probably won't repeat his dropship build, but Bisu may be psyched out by the possibility of it. That being said, Bisu's game against Hwasin here was amazing. I expect a good game.
XellOs to take the second game. He says he has something prepared for Loki II. I, for one, believe him. I am most looking forward to this game - to see if XellOs has a build, to see what it is, and to see Bisu's response.
Bisu seemed quite strong against Shudder on Blue Storm. His loss against iloveoov was a bit nonstandard because of all the cheese. XellOs might pull a Hwasin here, though - that timing push was pretty killer.
XellOs to win on the map Bisu doesn't like. Game 2 against Hwasin, Bisu won, but that was in part due to Hwasin's incredibly bad tank placement. XellOs might make the same mistake, but.. well, he's perfect.
Perfect DDR over Revolutionist, 3-1.

Gah... 2 of my favorite players, but i gotta go with XellOs on this one, it hurts my soul to see one of the old schoolers go down.
Should be some great games!

Amped for this series. Also It's pretty interesting the differences in these players. Bisu has played in barely any MSL's and already has 2 wins, while Xellos has played in more than any other player and has yet to reach farther than the semi finals. For that reason I'm HOPING for Xellos. However I think Bisu is the stronger player and will most likely win.

|
I really hope Bisu wins. I don't much care about washed up old Xellos.

Bisu will win Xellos hasn't gotten past semi's yet...why should he now
*edit* my prediction's:
game 1 on zodiac - both players play standard play and bisu wins with superior play
game 2 on loki II - xellos will try his special build or w/e and probably fail this map is very good for protoss so i expect bisu to win
game 3 on blue storm - map is very hard for protoss i expect xellos to win
game 4 on Python - Both players will play standard i expect Bisu to win this one and clinch his finals birth
|
|
|
I really like Xellos' odds for this series. He's had two full, uninterrupted weeks to practice TvP on this set of maps (not a single Proleague game since October 16th). Zodiac, Loki, and Blue Storm are all good TvP maps, and Python is balanced. Then again, Bisu looked great last night against Shudder on Blue Storm. He has to be considered the favorite for this series. If Xellos ever hopes to win a series against Bisu, though, this is his chance.
|
Expecting 3-1 Bisu
MAYBE 3-2 if Perfect terran plays perfect enough :D
|
Xellos has a chance to win, but that's about it. Bisu still heavily favored to win. He hasn't let me down yet, and I know he won't now.

Go Bisu I hope for some ggs Im gonna wake up early in order to watch this :p

Nada won his first 3 leagues on MBC, winning 3 games in a row in the first one against a dominant Zerg.. Iloveoov won his first 3 leagues on MBC, winning 3 games in a row in the first one against a dominant Zerg. Bisu won his first 2 leagues on MBC so far, winning 3 games in a row in the first one against a very dominant Zerg, and is poised to win his 3rd. Let's face it, history is definitely on Bisu's side. The difference here is that Bisu was not trained by Boxer in any way, maybe that will be the end of this trend? saviOr didn't fit the trend above because he was the dominating Zerg, so in order to get his 3 in a row he would have had to beat himself.

It's always like this; people cite hundreds of reasons for why Bisu might lose, then Bisu comes and kicks everyone's asses to Aiur.
That said, even at the best of times dominating players can lose, there is always sliver of hope for Xellos.

They also happen to be good PvT maps.
But I don't see this as having a lot to do with the result. It comes down to the players and how well they play. Get 4 different maps and Bisu would still win.

Xellos for hope that people who were once dominant can dominate again. And bisu for the fact that he is flawless perfection.

XellOs, get us some hope from the old school players. Win this and avenge SaviOr in the finals.

This is pretty much the finals for me. Freakin Mind denied the greatest possible final of the year 2007 final and I will never forgive him for it. Xellos vs Bisu is goign to be awesome though. I hope Xellos shows some amazing TvP, but I still think Bisu will win. Predicting: Bisu > Xellos Xellos > Bisu Xellos > Bisu Bisu > Xellos Bisu > Xellos
|
|
Im not exciting about who wins anymore cuz savior is gone. Can we all get along and agree here its all mind's fault that one of the best possible msl finals were denied t.t so lets all go hate on mind.

Honestly, you sound like a geek. So shut the fuck up. "LOL, sir. LOL?" Are you gay?
Bisu will win this no doubt, but Xellos so far has shown some big upsets. So who knows?
|
and you sound like an idiot "will win this no doubt" "so who knows"
|
LOL whoops I realized I contradicted myself. Let me restate what I mean: I think Bisu will win most likely but Xellos definitely has a shot at pulling a huge upset. Anyways, I'd rather sound like an idiot in a post than to say " LOL, sir. LOL . "
|
ROFL. No way in hell will XellOs 3-1 Bisu. Bisu 3-0 Xellos. Plain and simple truth. XellOs isn't even up to Hwasin's ability, and Hwasin had such an advantage on Zodiac. Bisu isn't Nal_rA. Bisu has a way more perfected game at this point. Nal_rA had more of a chance than Xellos.
|
Good predictions LR. GL Xellos.
|
I'm looking forward to this Bo5. Xellos has been playing the best games of an era and could certainly lift his game to challenge Bisu here, while Bisu is as deadly as ever. I won't make predictions on mapscores, but I think Bisu will take it.
|
Everyone thought Hwasin would take Bisu in the Bo3 match when Hwasin was already up. But in the end, Bisu pulled through and knocked him out. We all seem to be forgetting Bisu is the two time defending MSL champion, meaning he has a LOT of pride he's going to be fighting for. Therefore, I can't see the amount of time he practices to defend his title amount to a 3-1 loss.
Bisu has a huge name to lose, while Xellos is making a come back. If Xellos loses, he'll still be praised for how far he came. Remember, Bisu is devoting the majority of his practice into the MSL, so I really don't see him losing to Xellos, even though Xellos has been playing spectacularly well.
I predict 3-1 Bisu, because I do think Xellos has the ability to not get totally cleaned out.
</non-statistical reasoning>

I mean, I supported rA over XellOs, but I wanted whoever won that matchup to win the whole thing.
So now I am wholeheartedly for XellOs

The narrow passages favor protoss with carriers, and the 3 gas also favors protoss. P will take his unharassable 3 base and 3 gas much faster than terran can afford to. If terrans could force a 10 minute win with a timing push they'd do it, but they can't. The winding passages of Loki allow easy defense for the protoss until the air army arrives. Every PvT on this map goes the same way, and it's always to the protoss.
Loki is clearly the worst of the map pool for TvP.

Bisu 6, Xellos 3.
Xellos is sealing in his ramp so far, xellos is going standart gateway, early gas, early cybernetics core. Bisu scouting into xellos' base but can not get in, Xellos is outside his base. Xellos looks like he is going goons. I see an early CC for xellos to float down the ramp.

Xellos floating down his CC, Bisu going for his natural. Bisu adds more gateways. So far Xellos has not scouted Bisu at all.
Bisu has a robotics supply, seeing to go for a drop.
BISU does something genious -- he shows his dropship over tanks while going for 2 expo.

Reaver and goon going MAD in Xellos main, kill a tank, lots of scvs - not looking good. Maybe 8 scvs left in main base. Push is coming now
|
bisu finally decide's he's had enough, flies his shuttle past defense, starts blasting scvs at inhumane speed. the reaver dies after 15 or more kills, one of them being a tank.
|
xellos' defense vs reaver today is rather lacking. this push isn't going to cut it vs 9 gates.

1st Set - Zodiac
Bisu does a good drop on main, about 10-15 scvs down, nothing on natural. Bisu has 6 gates plus two building.

Bisu kills lots of stuff while engaging the push, but highground tanks drive him away.

xellos brilliantly sets up part of his army on higher ground, between the two bases. bisu attacks anyway and kills everything that's on lower ground.
|
xellos nicely abusing the terrain. but he's lost too many tanks. this game is going to bisu, unless xellos can force it to a 200/200 stalemate.
|
1st Set - Zodiac
BISU did a great push into Xellos's tanks because xellos has nothing before them.
Bisu tries to drop zlots plus a goon push but xellos has good tank and vulture placement, Bisu is pushed back. 2-2 expos so far. Bisu expanding on the 9 oclock inner position.
Bisu adds a second robotics bay, Xellos might have scanned and has a starport.

RECALL AGAIN DFKL:JAKL:DFJADKL:FJADF

xellos needs another base soon, and he needs to stop any more recalls into his main, or he's pretty screwed.

Bisu does a 2nd recall and XellOs gg's

Recall forces cleared out, but that was a very expensive attack. NEXT ARBITER MOVING IN AND GG!

ANOTHER RECALL LOL

Xellos calls GG after a second recall.

omg... i'm a believer. it'll be 3-0

I go sleep now assured of Bisu\'s win
|
|
Bisu still has that "I feel invincible"/bonjwa look. He's not losing tonight.
|
wow does anyone think that gg was a little premature?
|
|
Bisu really is a beast on Zodiac.
|
I could be happy even with a 3:0 win for Bisu if all the games are as good as that.

bisu looks like he's finished warming up.

To be honest, FA? I liked the old regular probe better.
|
Xellos played great, but what stopped him from playing well was that he let Bisu take too many bases. After Bisu just WALKED up his main ramp that one time, he probably got scared and decided to turtle.
|
Are you guys kidding? That couldn't have been a closer game. Xellos was ahead for a good portion of that game.
It's definitely not over yet.
|
Uh, Xellos got up and left.
|
Holy shit I am drunk. YEAAAAHHHHH
|
great game, but I think Xellos should at least start a counterattack with his Tanks at his expo. Bisu didnt have many units out .....
But Xellos will know what he is doing

BISU @ 3 XELLOS @ 8

is the yaoyuan stream working nicely?
i might revert to that inabit : ]

Xellos coulnd't counter attack because Bisu kept attacking his base...if he countered it would have been base for base and Bisu would have won for sure.

Bisu gets an early scout on Xellos.
Bisu going for a early expo protected, late gas.
Xellos going for less protected expo.

XELLOS going for ACADEMY and 2 Barracks! Getting two medics and two bats! Bisu does have a complete Robo bay
|
might work if he hides it well and pretends he mechs.
Bisu will have ob pretty late I guess
|
|
shit why is my stream so slow? Im still at Xellos doing B2 ..
|
ok whatever
|
bisu doesn't cancel front nex?
|
BISU DOESN'T CANCEL SECOND EXPO?
|
UH OH, HE GOT CAUGHT BY ROGUE ZEALOT GOON
MMF FRIES AFIREBAT BUT HES TOO FAR AWAY, BISU WILL PROBABLY DEFEND
|
So this is what Xellos had up his sleeve?
|
LOL GOONS EAT RINES FOR LUNCH
|
what the fuck, i think bisu is taking it with goon micro
|
OMG!!! Xellos rines dies like flies to 5 goons!
|
ok xellos looks really fucked bisu doesn't even need to cancel nat
|
both of them opened with fast expos. bisu after gateway to his back nat, xellos after rax to his front nat. after expo, xellos adds 2 rax for 3, bisu adds a gate for 2, and is now starting his expo at his nat. robotics support for him now as he's seen the marine medic. 6 rine 2 fb vs 5 goon1 zealot.bisu going to defend easily. forces xellos to retreat picking off marines and fierbats on the way back. 4 gate for bisu now. he's pretty far ahead.
|
Oh man, Xellos' strat has no chance anymore. He better try something else.
Bisu just takes out a bunch of marines with goon control
|
lol that attack force got crushed by 5 goons
|
It's over. 2 expos + reaver tech against 2 base M&M. :/
|
bisu raping face with dragoons up front and a shuttle now
|
now reaver coming for bisu. but xellos has fac and starport up. he's starting trurets around his main. 5 goon for bisu at his nat applying pressure. reaver joins them and starts taking down bunker. bunker goes down, but marine medic and tanks push bisu's goon/reaver away.
|
2nd Set - Loki II
BISU kills 10 marines/bats . Xellos has a starport with addon.
Xellos fights off Bisu, excellent micro by xellos -- losing 5-6 marines for 6 goons.
Xellos going for a drop and SCIFA. Tries a drop but not really successful.
Xellos COMITTING to barracks, adding 4 new barracks!
|
Not bad micro from Xellos to beat back the goon/reaver attack
|
kills the observer right before Dship pops.. it's subtle things like that just amaze me.
|
Hungary11232 Posts
Xellos putting together a drop force and heading out for bisus main. Bisu pushing into natural, kills tank and bunker. Only one tank for Xellos on the cliff.
|
omg everything Xellos does this game fails miserably.
|
lol 3 more rax comin
|
Xellos is now officially crazy.
|
add 3 more rax! I'm sure that will help. sucker.
|
|
xellos needs his mm drops to deal damage. but thats unlikely. bisu has an ob that sees everything, and he's playing very safe. 3 cannons his back nat now. about a group of goons with reaver at xellos' nat. xellos drops the back nat and it gets raped. xellos now adding another 3 rax for 6 even though he's seen the templar tech of bisu. wwwwwwwwwwwtf. high templars out.
|
|
|
lol bisu's gonna maelstrom
|
|
Bisu's econ is going to go up way too high. Bisu making DA
|
Engagement, xellos gets raped
|
deep 6 for xellos lol. bisu has more goons than xellos has marines wtf. DA for bisu -_- if those vessels don't get good emp off xellos is fucked.
|
lol xellos had irradiate researched for high temps
|
Bisu on a nine thousand base advantage, going carrier.
Xellos takes his back finally.

Xellos hasn't even bothered to take his safe expo

MMF and 4 tanks for Xellos. No idea how is going to wheather the storm.

Bisu takes an additional twenty bases.
Xellos does a lame drop that drops of 2 marines that all die anyway.

|
Culture you are like 10minutes behind
|
why does xellos use irradiate?? emp would be much better vs templars and the whole toss army...
|
3 rax MM after cc is too slow to do any early damage and then you're stuck with the 40hp army against reaver/goon/storm.
It does show the great lengths T will go to find an answer for P on Loki, though.
|
On November 10 2007 19:27 HaXxorIzed wrote: What was Xellos thinking? I doubt we'll see beyond a third game at this rate : /
Probably thinking that the protoss would expand to his front nat first followed by his back nat, giving him the chance to roll over the front nat before Bisu had too many troops out. But Bisu went with a gateway first, which messed up Xellos's timing completely.
|
On November 10 2007 19:30 TurboMaN wrote: why does xellos use irradiate?? emp would be much better vs templars and the whole toss army... very true lol... poor xellos

if xellos actually pushed out with his tanks and marines and at the same time hit emps, he would've won the battle and maybe the game....but nooooo. he stupidly sends his vessels out one-by-one to get feedbacked
|
That was strange. At first i tought his strategy would work but the timing and unit count was not enough. When he expanded himself and bisu double expanded, that was the best time to attack, but all xellos had was a few marines and firebats.
And then he build more barracks and both drops where the cannon was...dunno...
|

I would like to think Xellos is just preparing a show before he comes back and wins 3-2, but I doubt we'll see that
I think the biggest question now is whether bisu loses a game or not during the rest of the MSL
|
United Arab Emirates5090 Posts
i think the drops were crucial. if xellos did more damage with the drops then the game would ahve been very different. xellos macroed well, but those feedbacks were pimp and really good storms =(
|
Xellos definitely would not have won the battle if he attacked with mm+tank while simultaneously emping the toss army because the HT were in the shuttles.

Bisu lost because he mismicroed terribly against the mines, unable to back away because he cramped himself in with probes, terrain and a solid phalanx of goons. It was a well executed, well timed attack by Xellos which succeeded because it was a superior build order. I don't see how 2 half health dragoons dying to a mine earlier would have changed much. They'd have died to the mines much like the rest of Bisus army. It was sexy, but let's not make it into some fantastic super move. He won because of the perfectly executed timing attack.

At least that's how i saw it.
Bisu had two goons fighting two tanks right at the end - if he had those two EXTRA goons (+15% of his army) then he might just have won that battle. Thats the beauty of sc, two goons dying can make all the difference.

just when i thought xellos was going to be well prepared for the drop, bisu pulls up with his goons at the front door and puts xellos in affray. the momentum is solidly in bisu's way now.

he has more to worry about than you. you cant always judge by saying its obvious he'd do this and he'd do that because in the level of progaming today a lot of them play mind tricks in game

Even in the midst of microing a DT and goon in the base, Bisu still manages to maynard to expo with perfect timing (90% nex completion and probes move).
GG

Well done Bisu, well done. Call Bisu all the names you want, but Xellos is the one who hasn't managed to deal with Bisu loving to go DT's as a crutch.

I wasn't really surprised with the result. IMO since Xellos' first OSL win in 2003, TvP has been his weakest match-up, behind TvT and TvZ respectively.
Plus, he used up his strategies on the Ra games, so I guess he'll be happy with 3rd/4th.

This was surprisingly unspectacular - game 1 had some nice moments, game 2 was a strategical uphill battle for Xellos (which he lost), game 3 a nice timing push, game 4 a simple DT drop. Not really epic :/

it's not xellos day... he played a lot worse compared to his last games bad micro vs the dts
close position he has to build more than 1 turret, cause most toss drop a rvr or a dt and with his fast fe he has not enough units
|
summary: 1st game was good. old style tvp from xellos which did really well. bisu didn't come up with too many answers for it, until late game, where luckily for him, xellos lacked initiative. 2nd game was poor by xellos, strategy and BO wise. worst of the series. 3rd game was short and to me looked a bit like bisu let him have it (no flames please). 4th game, while xellos knew what was coming, got steam rolled anyway. great show of micro from bisu.
3-1 bisu
|
hehe nice bisu in finals dunno how good is mind's tvp but i bet it's better then noob xellos
|
yes i realize that he cancelled the upgrade from the cyberconetics core as a mind game, but still.. when has bisu not dt dropped in close positions pvt?
you do realize that xellos suspected dt or reaver drop and actually should\'ve been ready with 3 tanks vs 2 dts, he just lost to Bisu\'s superior micro in this case, not the build order fight.
|
Bisu's pretty scary when he's on a roll. I think playing 2v2's with Saint has helped keep him focused and collected. He isn't inconsistent at all, unlike last season.

Imho Xellos had a great BO in game 3 which caught Bisu off guard.. Seems like Bisu thought that Xellos went for an expo, so he took his nat, but Xellos went 2 facc push...
Whatever... TvT finals would suck big time(especially those including Mind).

On the bright side, did anyone really believe sAviOr had what it takes to beat Bisu? Bisu crushed sAviOr when he was at his peak with all the momentum and confidence that holding concurrent starleague titles brings. Now sAviOr is a shadow of what he was and we're well into the age of Bisu. Another sAviOr Bisu match would have been both anticlimatic and unnecessary.

People keep saying that a TvT final would suck big, but the truth is...
You're all scared that even if Xellos wins here, he might lose to Mind TvT.
MSL title is in good hands with Bisu. Mind saw this series too, I wonder if he's ready for what's coming.
|
Bisu is definitely the best player overall right now, but i think his pvt isn't invincible at all. He sometimes seems to overextend himself and just barely manages to fend off the first big push, sometimes he doesn't even do that, for example in his game vs hwasin, where Hwasin choked and lost his last 2 running expansion to the carrier/goon/ht combo because he split his units too much. Any of the 4 terrans in the power rank (oov as well, if he wasn't too damn inconsistent right now) could beat him in a bo5 if they just managed to stay focused and not lose their nerve.
Mind seems to have a tvp weakness tough, so I doubt he has what it takes, especially not with this being his first starleague final.

Wow, just read through the entire thread. People don't appreciate good games anymore. Xellos played very well, and there is nothing "boring" about Bisu's play. Safe he might be, but watching him is like watching a matador deftly handling a raging bull while weaved through a minefield. Protoss has always been a somewhat susceptible and fragile race that is difficult to win consistently with. Bisu's ability to calmly handle extreme risk with impeccable mechanics is truly what puts him a cut above the rest.

I think what is called "boring" here might be his consistency, not his playstyle. Right now it looks like nothing can shake his calm and that is making people upset, that aura of dominance which others admire. There is nothing wrong with the way he played, but the games could have been a little more exciting for the viewer's pleasure.

I'm not sure where the "Bisu is boring" comes from. Did he do the same build twice in any of the 4 games? So what if he DT drops most of the time? Is that any worse than random Protoss X who 2 gate roboes most of the time?
I think his era of dominance is a lot more interesting to watch than the previous few, where Nada/Oov/Savior just flat-out raped the shit out of everyone and it looks like the opponent had no chance at all. Bisu wins a lot of his games, but to me, it doesn't look as one sided dominant as the previous 3 guys I mentioned. It looks more like he's winning with mental strength and tight decision making
As for the games today, I thought they were pretty good. Xellos showed something cool in each of the four games. He carelessly lost a bunch of tanks to 2 dt's which was quite painful to watch, but his build was pretty good. His game on Loki was kinda weird. He had a cool idea, but it seems terribly mis-timed
|

I think thats the nature of being a Protoss bonjwa, you don't have as much safe builds as T does and not as good / easy scouting as Z gets.
|
Hmm, games 2 and 4 must've been pretty painful to watch if you were rooting for Xellos. But it's not every day you see irradiate and feedback in a PvT. :D
Also, did anyone else notice something weird at the end of Game 4, where Bisu lost TWO shuttles to a single turret? He already had the game won, but it seemed like a strange little error.

Though XellOs losing in the semifinals saddens me, I cannot be more happy with the resurgence of XellOs. He has really fought off that slump since WCG 2004. I hope that next season he will be able to show a dominating presence in both starleagues. The emergence of young guns has really allowed CJ to play them while XellOs gets more individual league practice.
I hope Mind doesn't win though. That would be nasty. I don't know about you guys, but I want players who win to be good looking. I'm not gay or anything, but I don't want to cheer for a guy who looks like an ugly nerd. Hence, winners like BoxeR and XellOs were very popular. July, sort of, but more for his amazing game style and micro.

You guys are idiots. "How could Xellos play so badly, he played really good against Nal Ra" blah blah blah. He probably was playing better than he did against Nal Ra. He was just up against a player who controls the game before it starts.

game 1 was painful as hell. Bisu just kept losing masses of units and it looked like Xellos could roll him but he just kept sitting there and then bisu would recharge up to a huge force again for when xellos finally did move; [

What the hell was boring about those games? Every single game turned out completely different, with each player doing totally different builds. There wasn't even any of that carrier auto-win games where you haters usually complain about.
If Xellos couldn't handle a DT drop, it's his own fault for poor micro. It could've turned into an epic game just like game 3 of Bisu vs Hwasin, but Xellos just couldn't handle the pressure. I don't remember Hwasin having the same problem now did we? In fact, Hwasin turned Bisu's build choice into a disadvantage, but Bisu still miraculously pulled off the win with his raw skill.
Frankly, I'm so much more pissed about Savior's loss to Mind than this result, which was pretty much expected IMO.
Be sad about Xellos' loss all you want, but Bisu's play was just fucking art.
|
o_O That was a nice set of games all 4 being different and interesting. I can't believe one finds boring the DT drops. Bisu DO take a risk which is bigger evry game he tries it as he must be the most carefully looked at player among all at the moment. He is confident in just every single action he makes. Who didn't goes for a wtf! when he didn't cance his expo on game 2? And Xellos did really a good job except may be this MnM thing. And I am not that sure that he could have roll over bisu in game 1 remember the game against hwasin in this MSL. Bisu is just punishing any moving terran while he doesn't let tehm any other choice since he counter so well vulture raids. I don't think I need to talk of PvZ. He is just amazing right now. nuff said
|
Those games were all exciting to me, except maybe the 2nd game where Xellos decided to go MM on Loki. I was more disappointed since it failed horribly. It was a great example of how vs. zerg strats just don't work vs. Toss though.

Yea I agree. I often feel the same way. I play much better against people worse than me, but I play worse against people who are better than me (in terms of absolute, not relative).
Good players keep you more busy, they force you to make mistakes. Bisu is a much better player than Xellos, this is especially evident in game 1.

Bisu = art rings more true with each game I watch from him. Especially the move he pulled off in game 1 with his goons luring Xellos to siege his tanks allowing his planned out maneuver of his now-speedy shuttle zooming over the tanks and popping several SCVs.
Oh and yes I agree with Cambium, I believe he suicided the shuttle to free up supply, he no longer needed the shuttle anymore anyway.
