TL;DR: Old OSL Finals VODs with live English casting
When: Friday, Nov 20 @ 5PM EST / 10PM UTC
Where: twitch.tv/moletrap
So if you don't know me, I was one of the OG Brood War youtube casters from back in the day, and I did SC2 (and LoL) professionally in KR for a while before retiring. After several years, I came back to YouTube when I lost my job to the pandemic, and with everyone embracing new tournaments with Remastered, I went the other direction and I've been casting classic pro games from the first 5 years of Starcraft, old MSL and OSL games with the original legends who had become coaches and casters by the time SC2 came out, and some replays from the Kespa era. After esports I was a high school history teacher, so now I've become the Starcraft history teacher! A few months ago I did a live event of Jaedong vs Stork from 2007 OSL finals and it went well, so we're doing it again.
If you don't know what the title means... what I'm doing is using the VODs from the 2004 EVER OSL Final. But I'll be streaming the Korean VODs and doing English commentary on the games live on my twitch channel.
So games played in 2004, commentary in 2020, with a throwback feel like the old days when we'd all try to get a stream from somewhere and sync it up to a shoutcast audio stream or something while chatting in IRC.
So if you want to come along and watch the finals live and be able to chat with other fans about the games, it's going to be Friday, November 20, at 2PM PST / 5PM EST / 10PM UTC. Check this link for your local time zone: https://everytimezone.com/s/5af64b6c
Stream will go live a bit before then, with some fun filler and a count down, and once the show starts I'll be doing a pre-game show with stats breakdowns of the players and introductions to the maps, and of course HYPE.
One thing I did differently this time is I decided to cast the ENTIRE OSL over the last 3 months, leading up to the finals. So if you have never seen this Starleague or want to recap before watching the finals again, I have done English casts of all the games leading up to it.
Here's the playlist for every game from the Ro16 through semifinals (3rd place match being uploaded this week).
Or since there were over 30 games in the Ro16 alone (group stage with tiebreakers), if you want to start with the Ro8, here you go. All of the quarters and semis in this tourny have been amazing.
Now if you don't want to watch the rest of the OSL first, you may be interested to know that the finals are between + Show Spoiler +
Boxer and iloveoov
Context hype: + Show Spoiler +
This was a time when Boxer was still in his prime but hadn't been in a finals in 2 years there was a little talk of him falling off, and this was his chance to be the first ever to win 3 OSLs. oov on the other hand was in his ascendency, having really blown up in 2003-4 and was looking dominant, coming off of 3 MSL wins in a row. But of course they were teammates, and oov was considered to be Boxer's protégé, so can the student beat the master?? The air is going to be thick with drama!
Even though it's long past, I'd like to ask that people not spoil the result of the finals in this thread without spoiler tags, since there are probably folks who've never seen it. Hell, there are probably some people on this site that weren't even born yet when they were played just over 16 years ago!
Quick side note: I've just been learning about 2004 meta as I've been casting these older games, so don't show up expecting progamer casting about build order timings and shit. But if you're there to get hyped and watch some exciting games with other fans, hope to see you there!
