@ mym the post and vods: http://www.mymym.com/en/coverage/372/49.html
Really enjoyed the interview, always wanted to see him interviewed properly (i.e live) ~ gj crow and the translator (there was one really weird question though.. "are u proud ur Chinese?" !?! crow man, what's he gonna answer lol..
anyway Pj was really confident, it looked like he owned interviewing too, not just StarCraft ~
(- was it good translation btw?)
http://www.brightcove.tv/title.jsp?title=1227712846 http://www.brightcove.tv/title.jsp?title=1228639693
Also gusbear in this thread posted: Ive done a rough transcript of the MYM interview below. (with a little of my own interpretations from my limited Chinese language ability)
(thanks from all, and forgive the quick proof editing) -------
Q: PJ you just advanced in the brackets and took down Savior on your way, how were the games vs him and was it hard? how did u prepare etc?
A: Actually I've always looked at the match vs IPX as the finals, If i beat him I would definitely get in the finals. I wasn't satisfied with my loss in the first game as it was due to a tactical error. (fyi zerglings owned nexus early) But anyway hes actually one of the best zvp players in the world and being able to win him i felt extremely fortunate as i calculated i only had 20 to 30% chance. i feel very happy and theres a good chance i can win the tournament.
Q: It seems you were also confident to win vs white_ra, was the game also very hard? PJ to translator: Who? Translator: White-ra, the guy u beat after savior. PJ to translator: Ohh..
A: Ive met him online a couple of times in practice and tournaments and basically won more than I lost. And as I've said before if I was able to beat IPX i would definitely be in the finals. ..That is not to say i would've won white_ra 100%, but it was expected. Also WCG has always been especially important to me so I wouldn't allow myself to make any mistakes.
Q: So you said u practice with white_ra sometimes, are there any other euro players you practice with and isn't there a problem of lag to play with euro guys?
Well when I was in skt1.. um ok I didn't really practice with them but I would occasionally enter some online tourneys and that was when I was able to play with them with good Korean internet speeds. Coming back to China, whether practice or competition.. well I never really played with Europeans as you are right that our net speeds suck. Another reason is if we were to practice we usually practice with Chinese or Koreans as our styles are more similar. It wouldn't make sense to practice with EU/US players since our styles are different and most of the competitions we enter are in China or Korea and rarely do we compete with EU/US players. WCG is an exception, but we rarely play with EU/US players.
Q: So in 2 weeks IEF will take place in Beijing and there will actually be a lot of Euro and Korean and china players. so don't you think this is a good thing that the different scenes are all competing together?
A: I definitely think its very good for StarCraft because uh.. well everything needs communication and building relations etc; and gathering all these people together is always good and practicing with them is of course awesome.
Q: there will be lots of foreign players participating in IEF for example from Poland Draco again and a guy named Blackman who is actually considered a old-school gosu who isn't that active anymore and also Advocate from Russia.. so what do you think your chances are; will u be able to win?
A: Outside of Korean players I feel my chances of win- ..uh, most importantly I think as long as the tournament format is good, then my chances of winning are very good.
Q: So while we are on the topic of Korean players, lets talk about your final game with Stork in WCG, hes #1 in Kespa and lets say hes the best player in the world, do you think you can win, what will your strategy be and will the maps be a big issue?
A: When I was in Korea I practiced with stork a lot and we have known each other for some time now and become good practice partners. In practice games well I won about 40%.. but that was just practice.. now that its competition he will of course be stronger.. but then again I will put all my effort into my games as well. (he didn't say anything about maps)
Q: here is a question from gosugamers.net: if you win WCG tomorrow will you consider going back to Korea and join a pro-team?
A: Well if theres such a possibility I think i will go back to Korea. Coming back to china this year has been a nice break from Korea where it was hard work with few vacations for a year an a half, and i got burnt out. So yea if theres a chance I would definitely like to go back to Korea.
Q: Lets hope you win tomorrow but even if you lose you have achieved an unprecedented feat for china by getting in the finals. how do you feel about this?
A: I feel china is the 2nd strongest country at StarCraft. Players like androide and fisheye have been able to do well in WCG and so its only logical Chinese players should at least be able to get 2nd place, but of course there are factors other than pure skill to advance in competition and now that I've done it for china I feel its a little late. of course personally i feel very fortunate and extremely happy.
Q: So you actually said china is 2nd after Korea, and I have to say china is progressing very fast in e-Sports; what do you think, will china be the next Korea some day? translator asked PJ if China would become like Korea "in a short time"
A: Hmm.. become like Korea "in a short time"? I don't think so... but I feel we will slowly get there. well put it this way, whatever it is, we will surely need one thing, which is Time. Give China some time and I feel china will be the best E-country in the world, because we have the best market.
Q: Any final words or greetz?
A: I've always felt that i am only able to achieve what i have due to support from many people such as my family and friends and fans; i would like to thank all of you. I also hope China's StarCraft scene will keep growing stronger and that our e-Sports environment will keep improving.

Pj's replies seem so much longer than the translater's version.
|
It's Mandarin. The translator left out so much stuff that PJ said...
|
Pj has a good chance of winning tomorrow and he knows it. But I would love to see Stork win.

GO PJ!!! WIN FOR THE FATHERLAND!
|
skt.t1.pj career: -some blizzard worldwide invitational -some ief(that bisu[shield] won by defeating savior in the finals) savior can lose to a sktelecom t1 member in a bo3. its possible. gogogo stork and pj! pvp final! =D

Well it's not just that the translator omitted parts of PJ's reply - he also rearranged the order in some cases, thereby distorting the meaning. He also forgot to ask some parts of the questions.
That being said, overall, it's one of the better video translation-interviews I've seen. So good work ^^; goodluck tomorrow, PJ. Even if I want Stork to win
|
Well. It was pretty clear to me that the translator had no former training as a translator so let's not get too critical of him. He was probably there just to help out. He didn't screw up too bad. He did however misunderstood the intent of the question on quite a few occasions.
|
You WANT stork to win? Is pj really that good that he can actually take the win from stork? I thought many people would assume stork would own pj no problem since stork made third place in osl last season and went to FINALS in the msl vs bisu last season(basically im implying stork is in top shape or near that right now). He's also one of the best pvp'ers too. I mean i know pj was in sk telecom and got to train with the pro gamers but to beat stork?
Sorry if i misunderstood but it seemed like some of the replies in this thread seemed like pj can actually beat stork. If u meant that u hope pj beat will win then ignore this post :p Or pj might really have gotten that much better. I don't know because i haven't really been following him carefully. I mean there's always that possibility of him luckily winning but i thought most of u guys would just assume the win for stork. Last Romantic says he WANTS stork to win and to ME whenever I say I want x team to win, i want that team to win becuz its my favorite team but i know they wont becuz the other team is better than my team. But if he didn't mean it like this then jsut ignore this part too >.<
Oh well, I'm just rambling now but from all the vods ive seen of stork recently hes playing exceptionally well.

Cmon man... it's not a crime to dream. If anything, we want some one other than a korean to win wcg for once.

arent you like 40? you dont know about styles in youth right now. that stuff is quite popular, ripped jeans, etc.
PJ is great. bisu must've taught him last minute how to beat savior.
|
I thought the translation was decent :D
I love how he thinks he will win WCG because he beat Savior (Pj refers to him as IPX still)
Such confidence ^^

Everytime I see 'pj' I think of pajamas. Does anyone know what pj stand for?
I'm really surprised at the finals. Yesterday everyone was like 'gg stork you dork!' and prematurely crowned Savor/Hwasin as WCG champ. But I believe that upsets are good for the 'sport' so I'm happy about the results. I just wished it wasn't a PvP final though.

Oh, my "I want X to win" doesn't mean I think X is an underdog. It's just a statement of what would happen in my ideal world.
If X was an underdog, I would add qualifiers like "I want X to pull an upset" or "I want X to get the miracle W" or something.
It is different from "I think X should win" or "I think X will win"

I agree. I just misunderstood >.< I thought people were implying that pj was going to beat stork hands down by saying they WANT stork to win. But Last Romantic's post cleared it up for me. Sorry for the misconception and yea it would be nice to see someone other than a korean to win but being a full korean myself not really :D
|
Nah seraphim, he is actually saying, if he beats savior, he can get to the finals, not winning the wcg, but by getting to finals, he is basically alrdy getting 2nd place for china =D

correction:
Pj didn't say he can WIN the tournament if he managed to beat savior He means he can reach the final if he beat savior
|
I really like PJ's style so I'm rooting for him as well.

Pj actually did a very good interview.
He expressed his opinion in a very professional way

I wish Pj the best for his games versus Stork after this interview. Although some of the translation was odd, it's better than most.

Pj's accent erks me. He sounds exactly like my friend from chongqing.

Pj played so amazing against sAviOr. His overall play was just better than sAviOr, I was really quite impressed. The interview was good for Pj and he seems so very humble. I really hope he wins tomorrow and prove that he should get some playtime in proleague if he ever goes back to korea. I hope that he goes back to korea and this time people will recognize that he is going to be a force (:

I think Pjs chances are very slim, regardless what the map is. Storks best match up is Protoss vs Protoss with a winning ration over 65%. Also we saw his zealot micro... amazing.

Also we saw his zealot micro... amazing. His zealot micro won´t help him too much in the finals. It might be the key to defeat foreigner zergs who are not used to LAN environment in close positions, but that´s about it.
I don´t think mediocre korean players like Cozy or Devil, who are used to be training partners in their respective team offices, would go down against his zealot rushes like that. Even when they have no chance to take down Lx in zvp lol.
|
Normally I'd say PJ has no chance, but I would've said the same when he played Savior.
PvP is a very volatile matchup, so who knows?
My money is still on Storky-poo tho.
|
The difference is, Stork will be prepared for pvp-finals now. Koreans are used to prepare for big games like that. If Savior would have been given 1 day of preparation for his match against PJ, I doubt the outcome would have been the same.

Ive done a rough transcript of the MYM interview below. (with a little of my own intepretations from my limited chinese language ability)
