Glad to hear the name Rus_Brain was born out of Diablo II. I remember those days well my friend. I also loved Diablo I on PlayStation (especially the Town Hall theme music) and even made it to the lowest levels (although the Butcher was hard to kill early on in the game, no?). At the start of the interview, Rus_Brain responds to a question about becoming a full-time (for-profit?) tournament operator by saying: "Honestly, I just don't understand how to make a profit from this." Now it may be the translation, but to me, anyway, he seems to be saying that sponsoring e-sport events for the sake of making a profit is not part of his philosophy or overall goal. Because he immediately goes on to say that he sponsors tournaments because "it seems that this is the right thing to do" (my emphasis). This is exactly the kind of community oriented, selfless spirit that keeps me around and in general hopeful about the future. You are a jewel my friend. And many thanks to your wonderful e-sports fund committee members - pG2k4, Saerjaar, Liquid`Drone, babymagik, gecko[xp] and g0rynich, which spent $62,492.27 in 2020 (see financials on esport.fund) for the pleasure of gaming communities at a time when it is needed most, touching the lives of so many human beings without asking much in return. ольшо́му кораблю́ — большо́е пла́вание (Remarkable people make a big impact in the world) - Russian proverb. | ||

He does not exactly mean that making money from organizing events is something bad or not a part of his philosophy. He just said that his initial motivation was like "i always felt it is a right thing to do". He could (can) afford doing it almost for free because it doesn't take that much time and he had (has) another source of income. He then compares that to being a full/half-time ESL (or else) organizer who needs to invest much more time and states that he has no idea how to monetize this. So he thinks his current model suits him better. | ||
