My college roommate and I just booked flights to Seoul next weekend to watch the ASL finals! All the info I have is from the stream: that it's at Children's Grand Park on Sun Sep 1, 5pm local time.

Anything else we should know? Do we need tickets or anything? How early should we arrive to get a good spot? Will there be seating there or should we bring picnic chairs/blankets? Any food recommendations in the area? Will there be signs/markers available if we want to make cheerfuls? :D Or, if anyone has links to more info about the event (even if it's in Korean), that would be super useful.

I'm super excited, so thanks in advance to anyone who has info that can make our (very short) trip more fun!

When I was there and saw the semifinals two years ago there were no tickets. Seating was first come first serve. The finals might be different? They did hand out empty cheerful posters for you to fill in. I forget if there were markers.

Thanks for those links. It doesn't look like there are tickets for the finals there, only the loser's match -- but I'll keep an eye out in case they get added.

2 stops south of Children's Grand Park Station is Ttukseom Resort Station on line 7. Go there and take exit 2 or 3. Go down the stairs and around the corner should be a place to rent a bike for a couple of bucks. I think you need to give your passport/id in exchange for the bike, so make sure to bring it, but I always enjoy riding along the Han River. You can't rent a bike at night, but some of the bridges like Banpo have like a rainbow light show. You'll have to research the schedule. It can be nice to grab some coffee/alcohol and chill there.

Between Ttukseom Station and Grand Park Station is Konkuk University station. It's a university area, so there are tons of restaurants in that area. This lamb skewer restaurant looks good. Go to www.mangoplate.com and search 건대입구역 (Konkuk University station) in the search box to find some other places in the area, or just walk around and see what looks good. You can also search 건대 맛집 in Google or Naver to find blogs about restaurants in the area.

It's not going to be his last game. He's still going to be playing in teamleagues and will probably rejoin individual leagues after his service.

note on buying tickets: You must have a windows PC to do it, and you must use Internet Explorer.
Though, most times for finals i hear it's first come first serve, so yes, plan to get there VERY early.

Korea isn't super hard to navigate in Seoul. Google Maps has finally integrated the subway map/times into their navigation, i found it easier to use than Naver/Kakao Maps.

I guess this would help you. dunno the way to translate into English, but this route is the best according to Naver map (Koreans don't use Google map since Naver/Kakao map is way more accurate).

I'm also going to see the finals live (will be my first time doing so). I was going to see the ASL 6 finals live, but had to cancel those plans. I've got my flights booked this time around though

Hmmm...the Ticketlink site shows the tickets as being available, but it won't let me click on a seat. I tried with both Internet Explorer and Chrome. Is it sold out already? Oh shit...

Edit: wow the site says the tickets are sold out...but they've only been available for an hour... I already have my flights booked and everything. Am I totally screwed or what

the tickets that are sold are for the front grass area with reserved seating

you should be able to stand/sit on the general admission seats on the day - the venue is quite large so you shouldn't be able to miss out on watching it

Ohhh phew. Thanks so much.

I know it's already been said that you should arrive early to get a good seat. Anyone have an idea roughly how early that should be? Should I show up in the morning just to be safe?

It looks like the reserved seats are already sold out http://www.ticketlink.co.kr/global/en/product/29833. But good to know the rest of the seats are definitely first-come/first-serve.

I am looking to attend with a friend as well, but I find the site a bit confusing.

At the top it says "all seats are paid seats" but then below in the graphic it lists "free open seats". It also doesn't say anything specifically about the rest of the seats being first come first serve from what I can see.

The Korean ASL page (http://bj.afreecatv.com/afstar1/post/47154645) also doesn't say anything. The most recent commenter is asking the same question about whether the free tickets are distributed in advance like last time.

In the past, you would show up (line up) at a designated time earlier in the day to receive free tickets, then come back a few hours later for the event.

They just posted the information about the free seats:

http://bj.afreecatv.com/afstar1/post/47233219

- Tickets for the free (non-designated) seats will be distributed from 1pm at the venue (the turquoise box on the map)
- There are approximately 2,000 of them
- Can enter the event from 3:30pm (after receiving a ticket, come back and line up at 3:30 in ticket number order)

Two thousand is a lot but it's hard to know how much interest there will be. Based on past experience, you definitely want to get there earlier than 1pm to line up. Also, as far as I know it's one ticket per person, so you can't get tickets on your friend's behalf if they are not physically there.
