Hey everyone! This is my first time posting here, but those of you also interested in SC2 may know me from the SC2 streaming stats threads I post monthly.
In last month's SC2 thread I was asked whether I had such statistics for Brood War as well. I have in fact been tracking BW streams for about two years. So this is a bit of a trial run - the same kind of statistics as I've been posting for SC2, but for BW. Let me know what you think and whether you'd like to see something this posted regularly.
Some things to keep in mind
- Event tracking for BW is somewhat less sophisticated than for SC2. Am I missing anything, are streams missing from events? Please let me know in a reply and I'll see what I can do to rectify this.
- BW tracking was unfortunately broken in early 2018 (Dec 2017 - Feb 2018) which is reflected in the trend graph at the bottom. I'm going to try and make this a little more obvious in the graph itself.
- I'm a little less familiar with the BW scene, compared to SC2, so please forgive me any mistakes wrt names, events, et cetera. I'm happy to get any feedback on this so I can fix these mistakes.
- Suggestions and requests are always welcome!
Huh? What's this?
I run Fuzic - which collects statistics and rankings of StarCraft live streams - and these threads are a summary of the viewer numbers for the past month.
Data is sourced from fuzic, and additional up-to-date stats may be found there. But in these threads - which I will try to post at the beginning of every month - there will be a monthly summary so you can get a quick overview of that month's viewer numbers.
Inclusion criteria
The rankings list any stream that is reported on by the APIs of the various streaming services (Twitch, Afreeca, etc). I have no way of verifying to what extent someone's viewers are legitimate, and therefore will not independently ban someone from the rankings. Please do not start a(nother) discussion about this in this thread.
The lists
"VxH", or "hours viewed" is the average amount of viewers multiplied by the amount of hours the streamer has streamed during that month. Basically, if for each viewer you count the amount of hours they watched the stream during the month, and add them up, you get this number. The list is sorted by this metric, as it gives a good impression of the streamer's activity through the month.
You can click the links below the charts for additional stats and a list you can sort by whichever metric you prefer.

What's going on with January 2018 on your final plot? Actually the data on the concurrent viewers plot doesn't seem to match up with the data in the link for a bunch of months. What happened?
Also I like this idea and hope you continue to posts these each month. It's cool to see.

Are the KSL numbers with or without Afreeca views (re-streams)? Twitch only?

TaKeTV is the biggest German StarCraft casting channel. They are mostly doing SC2, but have been casting KSL recently.

It's just Twitch streams (see here) but Afreeca streams *are* tracked. So if anyone knows which Afreeca streams (re-)streamed the KSL games I can add them to the events to get a more accurate number.

(Copied from the SC2 thread, in which someone else noticed the same thing: ) Thanks for noticing this! Turned out the individual bars in the chart were vertically stretched a little so they didn't align with the grid lines correctly. So they were still correctly proportioned relatively to each other (i.e. the overall trend remains the same) but didn't match the values in the Y axis' legend. This has now been fixed.

ill make sure to check which afreeca streams are re-streaming the ksl finals

Does this track youtube as well? There are only a couple streamers there but firebathero's youtube stream gets 1-2k~ viewers.

It does track YouTube, but it looks like firebathero's stream isn't listed as broadcasting BW (streams can set the game they're playing, like on Twitch). Unfortunately that way the stream can't be picked up by the tracker. So unless a stream is listed as broadcasting BW, it won't be included in these stats.
