[Interview] SPL 2010-11 R2 SKT1 vs. MBC Game HERO Winners

Q: Your feelings on your team’s losing streak ending
A: Bisu: Our team was in a situation where even 1 win was important to us. When Sun had his match, at first, it seemed that he was going to lose so I was worried, but then he showed hope, so it was a relief that we could go on to the 7th set. It’s also really a huge relief that we could end our losing streak.
Best: While our team was having a losing streak, I also wasn’t playing that well myself, so I felt really sorry towards the team. Today I lost again in the 2nd match and felt really sorry for contributing to [our team’s] heavy atmosphere, but I thought I could win in the 7th match. I also was very nervous while I was playing. But since we won in the end, it is indeed a huge relief.

Q: (To Bisu) Did you expect that you would be facing a Terran?
A: Bisu: Although I did practice for all 3 races, I thought that if a Terran came out then that would be even better for me. Since the Terrans from MBC are mostly relied on as aces, I thought it would be good if I could win against an ace and get a win. I have confidence against Terrans lately.

Q: It’s thought that Protoss aren’t doing that well against Terran these days because of the maps, your personal thoughts on this?
A: Bisu: Although I did win against a Terran today, it seems that whenever it gets towards the late game it gets really hard. It’s necessary that you use your Carriers and Templars well, but there seems to be many cases in which Protoss players make mistakes with them and lose in broadcasted games.

Q: In the mid game, it seemed that things got really hard for you when you lost a lot of Dragoons.
A: Bisu: At first when I successfully defended against the Dropship harassments I thought from there on I was in a very advantageous position. I didn’t think that I suffered that much damage from losing a lot of Dragoons. Since I already destroyed a lot of the opponent’s resources, losing a lot of units didn’t really matter.

Q: (To Best) You have a losing streak against Zergs.
A: Best: In the beginning, since I scouted late, I couldn’t exactly pinpoint what build my opponent was going for. HyuN hyung held mind games against me, and since I couldn’t really do anything against him, I felt really pitiful. During the game, honestly, I forgot about the existence of a center expo and thought it would be worth striking the expo at 11, but later when I saw the hatchery in the center, I thought, “Ah, I’ve lost.” But if it were to go on to 7 sets, I knew that I had another chance at winning, which is why I tried not to get at mad at myself as much as possible.

Q: In the 7th game you lost quite a lot of Reavers and Dragoons to no purpose.
A: Best: I did whatever I wanted (laughs). Since I didn’t really use my Reavers to harass anything, after most of them died to mines, at that moment, the possibility of having 2 losses in one day suddenly hit me, which almost made me cry thinking about it. Thankfully I won in the end, so winning was a huge relief.

Q: You used Carriers today.
A: Best: I had the feeling that Carriers would be good, so I used them. Since I usually go with Arbiters a lot, it seemed that going with Carriers too would be alright. To tell you the truth, if I think about using Carriers in practice, the truth is that I don’t really use them a lot.

Q: Both of you faced off against Sea.
A: Bisu: I remember losing against him once in the MSL. It’s good that I won against a player that does really well today.
Best: I remember losing against him in the 1st round. It seems that I got payback from that match. [T/N: Lmfao, bitter Bisu and angry Best finally both getting their chances of revenge on Sea…]

Q: Your last match in the 2nd round of Proleague is against Hwaseung.
A: Bisu: I just want to win. Since our team has gone through a losing streak, in order to revive our spirit, winning is essential to us. I want to win against whoever I’ll meet, and finish the 2nd round without any flaws.
Best: For the time being, since that team is a strong Zerg team, who knows how things will play out (laughs). Even if I have to face off against some strong Zerg, winning is a must.

Q: In the Most Wins competition, there is a chance to knock out others even with the slightest amount of pressure. Do you plan to fulfill this in the Winners’ League?
A: Bisu: Right now, I don’t want to worry too much about the Most Wins competition. I’ll think about that when we get to the Winners’ League. I did well and became the player who got the most wins in the Winners’ League in Season 08-09 [literally “Most-Wins King”], and want to do something like that again this season.

Q: In the Winners’ League you might show your weak side again.
A: Best: Since it’s the second round in this Winners’ League, no matter how things turn out, we have to strive further than second place. Only by doing well in the Winners’ League can our salary rates go up. If we do well in the Winners’ League, we can aim at salaries in the hundred million figures. No wait, since salaries in the hundred million figures are too common, we better aim for two hundred million figure salaries instead (laughs). [T/N: Yeah, I don’t know why Best is spewing this money nonsense either, but since we’re assuming Won as the currency here, Best wants their team’s salary rates to shoot up to around $200,000. By his tone, it seems that he’s hinting that of the SKT players except Bisu regularly get paid less than $100,000 a year, hahahah.]

Q: Today your team prepared a special Christmas event, how did that go
A: Bisu: It wasn’t that difficult. We just wore some festive costumes over our uniforms, so there wasn’t any inconvenience or something like that. The only incident was that the hat I wore was a bit too small for my head, so I got a little dizzy (laughs). If there were more events like this in the future that would be great; I’m thankful to the hardworking staff who helped out with this event.

Q: Any last words you want to say?
A: Bisu: Yesterday somebody from the Kim Taek Yong gallery [T/N: a Bisu fansite] gave me some chicken; it was very delicious. Thanks to the supper you gave me, it seems that I can work even harder now. Thank you very much.
Best: I have a friend named Kim Dong Jin that I mentioned in a previous interview who went off to the army 2 years ago. This time he has been recently discharged from the military, so I’d like to use this chance to mention him again. Congratulations on getting discharged from the military. Also, my grandmother’s back has been hurting a lot lately so she needs surgery for it, but she says that she will become burdensome after surgery and won’t do it for my sake, along with saying that she won’t do the surgery until I get married. Right now she’s only considering natural medical treatments. I better make some money quickly and go take lots of care of her. [T/N: Lol now we see the reason why Best wants a two hundred million figure salary so quickly! And don’t misinterpret Best’s words as snappy/impatient/doesn’t really wanna go take care of his grandma in the last sentence- he has a mostly joking around tone when he usually talks. XD]

▲Sun: Today there was some pressure. When I lost all my troops, I felt very pessimistic for a while. But a successful recall helped me work up my concentration.

Sun, why are you sent in 2:3 situations so much?
▲Sun: It's not really on purpose [T/N unsure]. But I won't dodge an opportunity to play; even having a chance to play at all is the most important, so it doesn't matter to me what situation it comes in.

s2, Sun has more wins than you.
▲s2: He's a junior player I care for a lot, so I'm happy as well. Seeing the rookies perform well makes us veterans excited. When Sun was on a winning streak, the team was upbeat and we won a lot. In my opinion, it's a good thing.

Sun, you played passively.
▲Sun: I still haven't displayed my full strength. I feel like I'm not fully accustomed to playing televised games yet. I play better in practice than I did today.

Sun, what moment was the biggest crisis for you?
▲Sun: There was the time when I attacked Light's natural and all of my dragoons died, so I only had zealots left. To be honest, if he had counterattacked, it would have been tough for me.

There's only one game left in Round 2.
▲s2: Right now my condition isn't very good, so entering the SWL like this would be difficult. But after today's win, I feel like it's not much of a problem. If we prepare amply for SWL, we can go on a winning streak like in Round 1. We should be able to win a lot. We've got BBF.
