Eki and Onurb has lost alot more i'm sure than that running WGT. Oh god.. can't explain how many times this has been done..
WSL was not promoted as something for profit to help pay for WGTour. In fact, the opposite was promised: a small, guaranteed prize was put up to spark participation, with the promise that if participation is large, the prizes will be much larger. The prizes ended up being very fucking small and WGTour kept a large chunk of the money because "WGTour costs them a ton anyways." Was that a rip off? You make the call.

i dont see how it was a ripoff if the players only paid a small amount to play and the prize was 100+ dollars. they still got a decent amount of money, but if they made the prize bigger i think it would attract more/bigger players. i would love to see another wsl =O

Honestly the players who participated didn't lose anything.
Anyone who didn't win a prize has no right to bitch about them being too small.
Anyone who did win a prize won their money back and then some, and had fun doing it.
That's all you need..

What was the buy in for one "week" of WSL? like 2.50? I forget... and something like 3000 people payed? Well if it was a Poker Tournament and 2.50 was the buy in and 3000 payed, then if the prize was only 100$, then hell yes it is a rip off :D

Yeah, ok.
Anyways, granted it was... unethical, promising larger prizes and then not delivering, but its not really such a big deal, seeing as nobody lost anything, and those who won prizes still gained alot.
It might not have been.. as big a gain as they would have liked.. but still, its far from a rip-off :[

its not a rip off, but they sure got away with something

steve can i join rt-s.? i'm already in vdp] and joining [cf] on east but you know, your clan is just really sexy

I wonder why they were trusted since many think they are corrupt when it comes to playing for free.
|
Not a rip off, if that extra money really went to WGT operation (Eki/Onurb) they deserve it anyways.
|
Why do you think they deserve it?
|
I'm kinda thinking it was sorta a rip off. Klogon's poker analogy is essentially correct. And I think Fakesteve's ethics talk is right too. The only thing I don't know if if participation ever went up.

Almost makes me want to open a ladder. Hell I'll take 1400$ from you guys to switch one of my servers over to broodwar for a few weeks so you guys can ladder for 150 or so.
|
i'd gladly help organize a new money ladder as long as its active and the reps are uploaded ^_______^

you should have included a poll as well

it took a lot of games for people to try to win the wsl's. a lot of games. expecting a PROMISED bigger prize. "wow there are tons of peopl eplaying wsl, the prize will be huge!". lying when it comes to other people's TIME and MONEY is a big deal imo.
|
you think people wouldnt have played a lot for a 125 dollar prize? people play a lot for free...
