Well I´m in Germany which means we are relativly (And by relativly I mean it´s bad but not like in the USA) well of since our Bank system was overregulated - no one complains about that NOW though.

The primary Banks for Hans Mustermann (German Sixpack Joe) are local "Sparkassen" owned by the communes - their goal isn´t to produce profit but to provide a service. This means that they may not offer interest rates comparable to "proper" banks but they are also not as much effected by the current crisis. To prevent missunderstandings: they are NOT immune.

The light at the end of the Tunnel is that the crisis will increase pressure on the USA to agree to more regulation for international financial markets. Deregulated Marktes grow faster, that is a fact but they also suffer more if a bubble bursts - as seen right now.

The biggest victim of this crisis is the US status as "masters of capitalism".

I think the problem here is different than what Marx would say 'I told you so' about.

Personally, at University, it is pretty hard for me to be able to do anything much, especially in Illinois, that bastion of anti-gun law. So I bought a wrench yesterday and some canned food/other foods, and have a lot of bottled water. I suspect that will be only enough to last aboud two weeks, so I also have a Brita filter to get me a little bit more water.

The good news is as I'm on the lake and I know how to fish, I may be able to feed myself there. The bad news is it's nice to have electricity and not being cold in Chicago, and that may be a problem.

What preperations have any of you taken?

wow, some people are ridiculous. This is like those people that prepared their houses for bio-chemical warfare after 9/11. LOL

yeah i've been thinking about this a lot lately. i actually do want to stock up on supplies, i'm mostly just cheap i don't want to buy a bunch of stuff unless there's actual signs that that is necessary.

actually my area of BC is already an earthquake zone, so all of us are supposed to be prepared because we're due for an earthquake.

that combined with the economy does leave me concerned so hopefully i will stop being cheap and go get some extra stuff in the next couple days.

and i think society is in a pretty poor state of logic when being prepared is a mockable offense? imo the more prepared a person is that is a quick way of identifying fellow people with a brain in their head.

In hard times its also a lynchable offense.....to be a greedy hoarder. I would recommend you don't heavily advertise if you are stocking up.

How is it in Argentina? I know they've had some pretty bad economic problems, there is actually a guy with a survivalist blog about it http://ferfal.blogspot.com/. Any truth to this?
