I've been grinding the ladder, catching up on the last four seasons of ASL and scouring Afreeca streams to steal some precious build orders from the pros!
On ICCUP, I was at best C/C- Terran. I hit B for the first time, and now I’m stuck losing to greedy toss players and absurd ling runbys.
I started watching and playing BW back in 2007. At that time my favorite player was Hwasin (match-fixing ruins everything) but at that point in my life I stopped being a gamer. Starcraft ruined every other game for me. I stopped playing WOW, CS, Diablo, Age of Empires, Dawn of War. I just played Starcraft.
Of course, everything changed with SC2. I didn't get good. It was frustrating. I won a handful of local events up here in Canada before the pain in my hands stopped me from practicing. The local scene here in Edmonton was awesome but I was dumb and immature. I went to a doctor and got some scans done but he said nothing showed up. Called it RSI. Not very helpful. By the time Heart of the Swarm came out I gave up.
I turned to MTG. A surprisingly fun alternative that doesn't require the 200+ apm. It’s been a ride. I qualified for an RPTQ down in Seattle and lost my win-and-in to top 8. I played my first 2 GP’s this last year and cashed down in Minneapolis playing modern. Magic is great. But as much as building a deck feels like tinkering with a Build order. It’s not BW.
Why the history? BW is too good. It’s absurd. Every game I lose I just sit here with a laundry list of how bad I am. Supply blocked at 26. Missed SCV production after taking my third. My starport didn’t start until +1 was three quarters done. Had the same groups of units hotkeyed to two different hotkeys. I could go on.
I am limited in the amount I can play but I have found some ways to alleviate the worst of it. Stretching, icing, sleeping with a splint all contribute to some relatively pain free sessions. But playing 5-10 games a day is just not enough. All this has led me to try my hand at casting!
I applied to Starcasttv who accepted me to begin casting with the caveat I need some practice. Practice is something I understand well!
All this aside I've decided to go back to watch old BW! The last couple days I've been streaming the 2006 ShinHan OSL Season 2 R16. The VODS from the last two days are up on youtube.
If you want to come, hang out and watch some old games, I will be jumping on twitch every weekday at 2:30 pm PT to watch a Bo3. I'm starting with the 2006 Shinhan OSL Season 2 Round of 16.
This week I’ve watched Nada vs TT and Bisu vs Goodfriend. Today, it's GGPlay vs Anytime.
