Hi people.
This post is for people who want to hear some music of the kind you don't normally hear. Most of you will probably think its all bloody terrible, but that's ok, if you're adventurous come in and have a listen.

Tropical Fuck Storm (great band name haha) - Soft Power
(psychadelic, progressive, atmospheric rock)
A friend showed me this album last night. Admittedly I'd smoked alot of weed but I'm still in love with it today. The lyrics are great and they have their own sound. There's some really good stuff coming out of Australia at the moment
+ Show Spoiler +

.

Melody's Echo Chamber - Visions of Someone Special, On a Wall of Reflections
(dream pop/shoegaze/french whispery voice)
This one isn't as strange, but its great anyway. I genuinely think 'french whispery voice' should be a genre of music.

+ Show Spoiler +

GNOD - Stick in the Wheel
(rock, psych)
From the brilliantly titled 'Just Say No to the Psycho Right-Wing Capitalist Fascist Industrial Death Machine'.
GNOD are a local band for me, and are a collective that have been going for over 10 years gaining respect in the underground scene for their amazing live shows.
Their music ranges from weird electronic ambient albums to krautrock influenced psychedelia, but this album is a bit more straight up. Any chance to plug them I will because they are amazingly talented and also lovely people.

Daughters - The Lord's Song
(noise rock)
Amazing heavy noise rock. Anguished, rage filled vocals, heavy riffs and great production and song structures make these guys stand out from the crowd.
It sounds oppressive and nightmarish.

+ Show Spoiler +

Alice Coltrane - Journey In Satchidananda
(jaaaaaaaazzzzzzzz)
Alice Coltrane is amazing. She was a jazz harpist, something you don't see too often, and first wife of the legend John Coltrane. Her jazz was focused on spirituality and often had a euphoric, psychedelic feel to it. Its experimental even for jazz, and can be a difficult listen, but there are moments of real joy scattered throughout it - and I'm not what you call a jazz music fan.

I'll probably edit this and add more as I think of more.

Here's a reading of a specially written jazz noir detective thing with a live band.
Not the sort thing you see every day but its pretty decent if you ask me.

+ Show Spoiler +

And this one's a weird tripped out visual art/ambient music performance type thing.
Its like some mad mythological sci fi witch cult doing a ritual.

I've got a weird selection of things here today!

First, this is an amazing new band from Leeds, UK, doing post punk in a really imaginitive way. The song titles are fantastic too - I particularly like 'Mum, Tell Him' and 'Illegal Backflip'
They are called Beige Palace and they played at the first only gig I put on in Manchester.

You can stream the album here for some undefined short amount of time:

https://birthdaycakebreakfast.wordpress.com/2019/03/29/exclusive-stream-leg-the-debut-album-from-beige-palace/?fbclid=IwAR1g3ULrWm1T5Dea8drR30jT0nogDrVGGrzY8FeaDZJxSmv47kmrWLo7pow

Right here's some trippy LSD music for stupid stoners I love it.

And some Russian (?) synthwave which is lovely:

What are This Heat?

This Heat were a proto post-punk(?) band. They were years ahead of their time but never got famous. If you're into noise rock artists like Shellac and thought that they were the crest of the wave take a listen to this. This is where all that stuff came from.

For music nerds such as myself its a little hard to understand how this music was coming out in the late 70's/early 80's

Absolute legends.

Charles Hayward was the drummer, who has recently played on solo albums as well as playing for Hot Chip and various other projects.

Anyway, here's a few tunes:

A New Kind of Water (my favourite - you can really see their influence on post punk here):

Here's one for yas
stoner rock/noise rock hybrid sounding thing.

Part Chimp are still gigging quite often and if you get the chance DON'T MISS THEM. Their live shows are rowdy, loud and messy and just great.

You get a few tracks.....

This is my favourite band to come out of Japan. They aren't well known, but they are fucking brilliant. Its heavy post rock with a Swans influence.
Look out for their upcoming collaboration with Manchester based Visual Arts group IMPATV

Dead Can Dance

Somehow these passed me by until quite recently. The singer, Lisa Gerrard, has maybe the most powerful voice I ever heard. You might know her from the soundtrack to Gladiator.
They are quite a spiritual band taking musical influence from medieval European music and also eastern music. They could be broadly categorized as prog but they are their own thing really.
If you never heard Lisa Gerrard sing you should check them out her singing really is beautiful <3

The most famous song:

That shrimp sessions video is ace! It took me back to the 90s, in a good way.

She plays like the rain

I'm bumping this to bring you guys Hania Rani
She's a polish pianist who uses synths and quite an original style of piano playing. She's incredibly rhythmic in the way she plays, sometimes absolutely hammering 16th notes for the length of an entire song.
A must for fans of Nils Frahm and that style of ambient/synth/piano vibe. The music is haunting and beautiful.
