In my mind, piccolo was an easy instrument played by happy elves in enchanted forests everywhere. However, it is actually very difficult and I haven't found so much as a human with a happy elf hat playing piccolo.
I assumed it was like flute. "How different can it be?" I thought. Well it is totally different. It is an evil little thing. Unless you are a good experienced player, the piccolo makes an angry high-pitched shriek that will make your ears cry.
The fingerings are the same as for flute, but the similarities end there. I try to practise quietly since I live in an appartment, but with piccolo this is impossible.
I need to put alot of air for the sound to work, which means I can't play at low volume. Playing high-pitched notes quietly is hard even on flute. On piccolo, it's really not gonna happen. So I try to play a note. Big obnoxious focking EEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeh comes out. I try to play quiet, I get some weak little airy "tuuuu" that sounds like it wants to kill itself.
I realize it's gonna take more then a day to be able to play, but still.
Anyways yeah, I went to the dentist for the first time in my life the other day. Just thought I'd let you all know.
