i felt really confident about my performance at the bjj tournament. i thought i could win a match and thats was all i really wanted.

i trained harder than usual. i kept my diet on check and was on weight.

i had one throw i was really sure i could use to at least get an advantage or 2 points, a "sacrifice" throw, and from there decide the flow of the match.

i was ready, i was focused...

but i guess i didnt train as hard as the others.

my throw was lame, horrible, it was shit and it ended cost me 4 points first and more later. i tried to recover but the other guy was stronger, faster and more technical. he was better. he ended the fight in 3 minutes with a bow and arrow choke.

i feel empty now... or maybe full of regrets... i dont know.

p.s. i had planned to eat a big burger with fries after the tournament... im not even hungry now

i would define my style between a mix of ByuN, Maru and MKP

Losing, in any capacity, has always been the strongest motivator for me to get better, in whatever I do. The same applies to making a mistake, or otherwise not accomplishing something in the way I should have. That's a very vague statement for a very vague encouragement, and I intend to keep it that way.

There is always a loser, there are always people better until you are at the top, and there's no purer goal than to make those people at the top your rivals and equals.

Regret, mixed with the feeling of failure and worthlessness after an important event is normal! Don't succumb to those feelings, use them as fuel for next time.

Winning can't be your only goal or you will repeat this experience over and over until you get discouraged. Focus on improvement. You know the things you did incorrectly so focus on fixing them and come back stronger. There's no purer a goal in any discipline than improvement through failure. You can do it.

Was this a single elimination tournament? just my guess because it sounds like you lost one match and the tournament was over for you.

I would definitely suggest signing up for round robin tournaments in the future, if you can find them. Round robin guarantees you multiple matches so that you'll get the most competition experience, not only for the money, but for the time, energy, and focus you gave in preparing for the tournament. I can imagine it would definitely suck if you spent so much effort preparing for this, only to have just a single 3 minute match.

But don't worry about it man. Just the fact that you went in and competed means you've done something that not many people would ever do, so don't regret anything. Everyone loses, everyone is bound to meet someone better than them at a tournament, it's all good. Just keep training, and you'll keep getting better, and for sure you'll get some wins in the future.

Lastly, a comment on your game plan, perhaps focusing on a throw may not be the best idea. Guard and guard passing should be the most important thing to focus on

Don't feel regret!

You trained, you prepared, and you fought! Thats important! Not who the winner was. I know.. loosing sucks sometimes, but always remember to be grateful for your healthty.
When im doing competetive sports (fencing), my first goal is always to have a fair fight, to respect the enemy, and most of all TO HAVE FUN! never forget that....

After more than 6 weeks of regenerating my ancle injury, i just started to train again. And i am so happy to be able to do my sport again.. i Enjoy every fight, and i am just grateful that my injury seems to be healed more or less ( running still little problematic...)

Always keep in mind that your youth is not infinite and one day, sooner or later you won't be able to train and fight like you do right now.

Dont waste your most vital Time of your life with regretting...
