A long, long time ago in 2012, when LoTV wasn't even a twinkle in David Kim's eye, I successfully made Platinum league in Wings of Liberty. Platinum--the nice, smooth middle road of competence--was my humble goal.

Shortly thereafter, I stopped playing SC2. I picked up HoTS for the single player campaign but hardly touched ladder. I think I might have played 10 or so games for the entirety of the expansion.
Now, the year is 2015, and another expansion has come. For some reason, it sucked me right back into multiplayer. Unsurprisingly, I was put into Gold league. Since I have a ton of time off, I decided to play my little heart out and get back into Platinum.
I'm happy to say that in just 76 games that goal has been reached. I've even won two of the automated tournaments, which is an inclusion I love and have waited for since WoL.
Anyway, it's nice to know that I can take a 3 year break, skip an entire expansion, and come back thanks to Ultralisks. I'm not joking. I got promoted after a ZvZ in which I should have died but won because Ultras. I don't know how to deal with HoTS stuff (mines, firebats...etc) or even how to use HoTS units (I've *never* made a viper or even thought about it), but hey, whatever.
In all seriousness, this is a fantastic expansion. I'm really digging the game's new direction. It feels more fast and frantic than ever before. I can also roll over Toss, which is a nice change of pace and brings me great pleasures.
SAY NO TO PROTOSS NATIONALISM.
Side question: I've only played 366 games. I've seen people in Silver and Gold with thousands of games--I mean pushing 4.5K games. How / why have they played for so long and shown so little improvement? I really don't understand how anyone could play 4000 games and still be stuck in silver league. It boggles my mind.
