Spock, a couple weeks after we first got her, clearly annoyed at my having woken her up
I got Spock when I was dating a girl I had been talking to while overseas, her neighbors farm cat had had a litter and were giving them away. All things considered, we got very lucky, the only health issue when we first got her was a bit of worms, but beyond that she was given a clean bill of health after her first visit to the vet. That girl and I stopped seeing one another months before I started dating my current girlfriend, but curiously she is still interested in the cat.

Even earlier photo of the little girl, you really forget how tiny they were
As I previously mentioned, when I got her, after calling around, I had no idea it was as expensive as it was to fix a female kitty. Instead of looking into programs that would have helped someone living with my income, I figured she would be just fine until I gathered the funds to get her fixed. Clearly that wasn't a priority as I made the transition between college and the real world. A week here and there she would be uncannily affectionate, sit in front of me with her tail to the side, making mewing noises, until she stopped. I briefly thought of it as kitty twerking.

Sleepy girl found the cool tile in the Summer I spent in the shittiest apartment I ever hope to live in.
What wound up happening in the interim, is probably, hopefully, the closest I will come to falling in the un-serviced gap of nonprofits/government programs. I was making too much money to qualify for spay assistance, but not enough that I could throw around some of the little income I was making that wasn't going to rent, student loans, bills, etc into getting my cat fixed. Combine that with the fact that when I didn't lack a car, I still do and am ok with that fact, this cat fucking hates car rides.

If you remember this scene from the Nightmare Before Christmas, you are not far off of how she howls in the car.
So while I am not looking forward to taking her to the Vet, my girlfriend is dropping her at the Vet and me at work Wednesday morning, I am looking forward to making her far more comfortable and hopefully adding on a few more years with the first pet I could call my very own. She plays fetch, she acts like an idiot sometimes, but she is my girl and I don't think I could imagine a day coming home and not having her waiting on the table mewing for a few pets when I get home and following around the apartment. I am only sorry I had to wait so long to get her into the doctor's.
