A great Sunday of sitting around wasting my time, playing a couple of games of SC2. This actually wasn't my first game played of the day, but I went on a 4-5 game losing streak so I just didn't feel like using those games to write about today. Once I finally won a game, it was extremely uninteresting... but the show must go on.

From today I'll be trying to make these self-analyses written in a form similar to "battle reports" (thankyou to GaNgStaRR.ElV for the suggestion to try it out!). I'm sure anyone who even would have the time to waste to read some unknown blog would be far too lazy to download that replay, so making a bunch of pictures might get more readers... Worth a shot anyways!

replay : http://drop.sc/333694

Early Game
+ Show Spoiler +
A PvT on the map Zerus Prime. Nothing crazy starting off the game, and my scouting probe going out at 9 (hereby dubbed "Johnson") manages to find the enemy's base right off the bat. Johnson's brave scouting allows me to see the terran taking a fast refinery.

As a reaction... or rather, as I always do regardless of what I scout, I open with 2 fast gasses, saving up until my cybernetics core is finished, at which point I have just enough gas to get a stalker, MSC, and warpgate all at the same time. To be honest I'm quite proud of how perfectly that one timing fits in, although I'm sure some professional build order somewhere has the exact same opening BO.

specific Build Order; 9 pylon/scout 12 gateway 14 assimilator 15 assimilator 17 pylon/cybernetics core 22 warpgate/stalker/MSC (21 if scouting probe died)

Probe Johnson also managed to leave his mark on this map by placing a semi-proxy pylon. I've been trying to get into a habit of having a pylon fairly nearby the enemy base so that I can warp in later after a good engagement. In this instance I decided to make my 2nd pylon away from my base to hopefully throw off the terran after he scouted and only saw 1 pylon.

Shhhh I'm hiding.

Thanks to my build of getting the first stalker fast, my enemy's first reaper is thwarted without receiving a single probe kill.

I sensed some weakness in the terran's defenses at home, so I decided to get up 3 warpgates up fast to do some pressure. Using my first stalker and MSC I quickly moved to the ramp... the pressure was seen coming from a long ways away, and all the stalkers could pick off was a supply depot, but since no stalkers were lost (thanks to that handy dandy recall!) it still was a plus for me.

Darn you city folk and your flying machine!

Mid Game
+ Show Spoiler +
Still highly standard game. Terran enemy goes for that standard push as soon as his 2 medivacs are completed... Meanwhile I rush towards getting my first colossus out while grabbing 2 forges for fast 1/1 upgrades.

Pictured above; A bad protoss player scrambling to get up all of his infastructure.

The attack hits as expected. Thanks to the mother ship core (which I actually kept alive for once!) the attack is quite handily held off, although my colossus was lost due to a momentary lag spike T.T Utilizing OP target firing the colossus falls quickly, although his role was more than fulfilled by softening up all those marines. The Photon Overcharge cleans up the stragglers.

Eat your photons, they're good for you.

The remainder of the portion which I would consider the "mid game" wraped up with nothing else occuring, other than an attempted drop at my under-construction 3rd base. A quick a-move along with phoenix clean up concluded the mid game.

DIS PHOENIX OUT FO BLOOOD

End Game
+ Show Spoiler +
After suffering a few losses in a row on the ladders, the ending to this game was uninteresting easy. The terran looked again for an attack, but my unit composition was just far too superior. A mixture of phoenix to combat vikings/deny drops, colossi with ETL, and zealots for meatshield manages to win the day. A sorry excuse for a pre-positioned concave actually worked out fairly well, resulting in a slaughter of MMM. Phoenix also proved very useful vs the vikings.

Smashing victory!

A huge contributor to the absolute slaughter of that army probably is the upgrade advantage. Moments before the attack commenced, my 2/2 upgrades finished up, giving me the upgrade edge. I'm sure that many terran players are also not yet used to a style of PvT in which phoenix are utilized to make colossi a much bigger threat than before.

That battle basically allowed me to walk right into my enemy's base and win. Didn't even need any buttons other than A, and I even had some time to dance. GG

And so another game is concluded. Not a very satisfying win, but none the less a win. Hope to see you again on next time (hopefully tomorrow if I actually keep this up!) in some more Ladder-age!

*trying to write in this style with pictures is quite fun, and I think I'll be continuing this format from here on. Quite time consuming, however, compared to just using the replay. Hope the effort can get more readers

Haha yeah probably, but I was feeling pretty bummed out from my losses and just really couldn't feel like reviewing them.

I'm in diamond league, my opening has been successful vs some low masters that I've faced on the ladder. I believe that my build is completely competent, if anything my only error is that I screw up micro or get supply blocked xD

Although not specifically "build order", my PvT is always zealot/colo/phoenix for it's core composition (only 6 phoenix, this seems like the magic number), and vs bio this seems to rock for me. VS the boost medivacs phoenix are brilliantly good at stopping drops too.

Oh wow, I actually played against this Terran Small world!

Why are you scouting at 9? You yourself admitted that you do the same thing whether you scout gas or not, rendering the scout useless. I'd move it to a Core scout, and if you find you're losing to things you can't scout, change it to a Gateway scout.
<@Wikt> so you are one of those nega-fans <@Wikt> that hates the company that makes a game and everything they stand for <@Wikt> but still plays the game <@Wikt> (like roughly 30% of blizzard's player base, maybe much more...)
