New Years Resolutions - Week 1

Well, week one went pretty well; but that is to be expected given it's the first week.

Eating - Did a good job here. Healthy balanced meals, light calorie deficit each day, and didn't eat much of anything junk foody because I was bored/craving, with one exception of Friday night where I had some friends over and ate the remainder of the Christmas candy (4-5 pieces), which isn't the end of the world cause that gets rid of that. Down about 1-2 pounds which is a good start.

Really the gameplan, or rather, thought process here is not to think about "avoiding temptation" or "giving in". That is the tough route to go and you have to REALLY want it to make a route like that work imo. What I'm trying to do is replace the old habit (bored/binge eating) with new ones. When I am bored and about to eat I'm trying to catch myself and then do 10 push-ups, 10 sit-ups, then go do something productive for at least 5-10 minutes.

Running/Fitness - Still rocking the groin injury so no running anytime soon, though it seemed to improve a bit over this last week. Got in about 1-2 hours each day though on the stationary bike for a total of 230 miles. Boring...hell yea (but I've got snipe2 on my side :p), but gotta do what ya gotta do.

Starcraft - Not as good here. Played some games, but not the 5-10 I was aiming for. Probably averaged 3-4 per day.

Social Life - Not much here, can't do alot at the moment though as school hasn't started and I don't want to spend the money to drive 40 minutes into town just to hit the bars.

Priorities - This went the best. Basically zero procrastination whatsoever this week. Got everything down promptly and on time, from the little things (putting laundry away as soon as it is done, dishes, etc.) to the big things.

Overall, I'm quite satisfied with the week. I accomplished most of what I wanted to, my general aerobic fitness is getting back to snuff, and I was generally on top of life. I think if I can stay really strong on this stuff for the next 4-8 weeks many of these could end up becoming habits.

The key obviously is going to be making sure I don't lose focus, willpower, or discipline before then. Onward!

Just for kicks and grins I'll be including a song I particularly enjoy each week for the hell of it. This week: 10,000 Days by Tool.



I've always found this to be a very, very powerful and moving song, especially lyrically. He is speaking about his mother in the song, who was paralyzed for a stroke for 26 years (approx 10,000 days) before she passed away. It's both a wonderful eulogy to his mother and a introspection of him coming to grips with the fact that she is dying.

dude wings part 2 is an epic fucking song. i remember the first time i heard it i was on mushrooms. life changing experience.

anyways i just had to give you props on the song. good to hear your resolutions are going well. i dunno your specific situation but i just wanna offer some general diet advice that has helped me. two steps. give up sugar (except fruit) and eat more vegetables. preferably green and raw. the disclaimer to this is that you have to start viewing any processed/super refined grain (white flower etc) as sugar because thats how your body processes it. and blood sugar spikes actually have more to do with gaining weight than pretty much anything else.

Awesome resolutions! :D Good job on them as well! the key is to keep them up constantly, even when ESPECIALLY when you don't want to.
