As we all know, Masters, for most people, is a painfully hard league to get into (grandmaster is untouchable for most people.) I had the rare opportunity or the hot winning streak to get into Master league. Was it worth it:
Nope not at all. What i found was a huge barrier wall from people 20 seeds up. People with insane micro, along with solid macro hitting me with a hammer. I eventually felt, and did, that I would lose every match. I went on a hell bent losing streak, playing when I was tilted, desperately trying to get wins. It did not help that this week i was blowing off steam and just rage quitting everything, but overall i think my Skill decreased significantly. I dont know how it is possible, maybe too much dota 2, but my skill seemed to be lower the diamond. (it turned out i was playing against diamonds for a long time.)
Am i dissapointed: Of course.
But i think this is an opportunity to truly gain understanding of the match ups again, without pressure of staying in master league.
Its only up from here  !

The same thing happened to me before I made it into masters I would win like 15 games in a row and be playing mid masters then I'd lose a bunch and be playing plats

I've gone back and forth three times now. Makes me sad.

Funny how that works.
Getting a promotion doesn't mean your mmr suddenly spikes up. For instance, if you win a game and suddenly get that promotion, the next game you're still playing the same level of players as right before your promotion. It's probably the pressure of trying to retain that rank that's affecting your play  ... that and try not to play tilted

To the op.
Every time I get matched against a favored opponet I feel happy. I was happy when my favored opponents were high masters, was even happier when they became gm. The thing is, once you start playing vs beter players there is no chance you dont improve. You always become better and better and eventually they cant keep up with you and you move against stronger and stronger opponents.
Surely you dont wanna be NOT improving. Even if it demotes you, you can still keep trying and trying and eventually somebody will write a blog that he hit a wall and this wall would be you.
