Ok maybe not a hell hole but blah this country is just depressing !
Durban were i live, we have the warm indian ocean and nice beaches, but the disadvantages of this country dont make up for that, what disadvantages you might ask, well the crime here is horrid, we all hide in our houses at night except for going to a few pubs or clubs :/
I didnt realise how crap it is here until i went to u.k / london for a year on a working holiday and my eyes were open ! Being able to go out at night walking the streets with thousands of other people till midnight and being able to catch a tube or bus home was amazing, in South Africa you can maybe do that in cape town on long street or in durban we have florida road which is just a road with restaurants and clubs i mean what the heck -.- In england i could skateboard till late at night while in south africa you can skate till it gets dark then you dont wanna be in the streets!
It would be more bearable if gaming wasnt so hard, we have such bad latencies and bad / expensive internet here that we can only play on south african servers except for sc2 and wow and dota 2 which has high latencies but its playable atleast :3 Bitching aside since i have been to england, i have just lost all desire to work or make a future here cause i hate the way we have to live here, I cant figure out a way to immigrate anywhere really, id be happy anywhere in europe doing any job even if its cleaning toilets all day and id be happy doing that knowing i was in a better country -.-
I have a mauritian passport which helps a little since EU is more accepting since tons and tons of white south africans have all dissapeared in england and EU trying to escape South Africa :O I have been looking into the British Army but i dont want to be deployed in a war, i think i would enjoy army life though if i was doing something none fighting related, so if anyone has tips or guides for a south african to immigrate anywhere, id even consider U.S.A if it was a last resort, or am i screwed as a 27 year old with no note worthy qualifications ? i was goona add alot of background story of south africa and its downside and then i saw how long this post is so ill stop here -.-
Any help of people who have immigrated or tips on how too would be greatly appreciated, at the moment its either army or studying a trade like a plumber or electrician since u.k is looking for tradesmen i heard.

Scraping toilets for a chance to skate late at night being 27 yrs old and all? I think ure a little too desperate.
Try USA... Its very doable lol
|
Lol, yeah why's the US the 'last resort'? I would think it's probably easier to get into the US than the EU.
Bottom line is the economy in both the EU and the US sucks right now. Might be better off trying somewhere like Australia maybe?

Well im sure America is nice and all , but the cold weather and europe appeal to me more, also with south africa being a former british/dutch colony the lifestyle and other things are very similar, england is almost like south africa just with more rain and overcast weather lol also its not just a chance to skate at night its the being free to do stuff and have a life, also in england i noticed is that even the street cleaners and postman make a good living, in south africa the people who do those sorta jobs live in tin shacks and maybe make enough for food every month, where as overseas you can do that sorta job and you can have your own place and have a decent very modest life which is amazing. Us white south africans are known as hard workers as well

Come to NZ!~ We won't bite
srs tho, come to either Aus or NZ man.

.... you are aware that the US is also a former British colony, right?
And here in the upper midwest it gets cold as balls during the winter, we are afterall right next to Canada.
And I'd be willing to bet those street cleaner jobs are government union gigs, and probably not easy to get. Idk, just seems to me like the US is far more immigrant friendly than Europe.
And based on what you've said about S Africa, it sounds like England is nothing like it...

NZ seems epic, just from flight of the concords alone ^_^ ! The question is how though.... with no qualifications except for a silly A+ N+ I.T course, and managing a skatepark for like 3 years i have nothing that would warrant a country wanting me there :`(

Ye i am aware, i just mean the architecture/brick houses and other things which are hard to explain, like traveling around england it feels like your in south africa except the roads are clean, and everything is well run, you dont feel your in danger of being mugged/raped , house etc are identical almost , especially coming from Durban which is coastal city and very green and lots of trees/wildlife, like if i took a picture of the view outside my window it would look like you were in any country side city in england, http://mw2.google.com/mw-panoramio/photos/medium/9005054.jpg
Well i might go for a seminar in june on working on those golf courses in america that i think old people or rich people frequent, its very popular for south africans to do that waitering or working at amusement parks and you make good money. but just seems pointless since you have to come back or leave eventually -.-

You probably won't be able to go to the US. The main way to get into the US for work is to get an H1-B visa. It is for skilled workers, and you have to have a Bachelors' degree, which it sounds like you don't have. Even if you meet the requirements, you have to find a job, and then win a lottery. If you get fired, you lose your visa, so some of the employers that hire H1-B workers (especially the companies that specialize in hiring H1-Bs) treat their employees like crap. There are some other lotteries for visas which you should look into, but they are a really long shot.
Canada has a points-based immigration system; to see if you qualify you should take the self-assessment test. But with no qualifications, you probably won't meet the minimum threshold to apply.
Outside of those two options, the only real chance you have for North America is to go to university here. Canada is a little cheaper and more welcoming than the US in that regard (ie. it's easier to work in Canada after completing a degree here), but both will require a fair amount of money for tuition. So Europe is probably a better bet.
Edit: this is assuming you want to try to immigrate permanently, I don't know much about temporary workers' visas.

Sigh Ye thanks munchmunch for info ♥ you know your stuff worse thing is alot of my friends have gone u.k on british ancestry visa since most white south africans have grandparents from england and the afrikaaners have dutch or are happy on their farms in the middle of nowhere unforunately my father is mauritian and and my mothers parents were south african so im screwed and im to far down generation tree to apply for a french passport blah!

Dude is it true white South Africans are second class citizens in SA to the black people? I've heard that white South Africans have to basically settle for being inferior due to their guilt trip from apartheid. If that's the case, you gotta leave man, don't get crapped on due to other people's mistakes.

I don't really know that much about our immigration policies, but here in Norway you could come and if you get in live off welfare (I don't think you would want that though, not that you don't get enough to live for, but I have to take a guess and say it's depressing.)
There are kind of high standards to get a regular job here, but some of the more "dirty" jobs are most likely open to you (garbagemen actually makes quite a lot of money). But unless you want to learn a new language (someone says Norwegian is really hard to learn, IDK about that though), and deal with the shy, pale Norwegians I'd tell you to try somewhere else.

Come to Australia. Our economy is doing basically better than any other and it's not that hard to come here. The minimum wage for an adult is something like $17 per hour, which is really high compared to say, the US. We have both really hot and somewhat cold weather. If you like cold weather, come to Tasmania where I live. Australia was a British colony too so everything here is pretty similar to England in terms of culture, etc. Seriously, if all the people from Malaysia, Singapore, etc can get in, you should be able to. Come and work in the mining industry. Just driving the trucks people are earning $150,000+ per year with no qualifications at all other than finishing high school.

I agree, go to Australia, they are a fun loving outdoor type people, I lived in Melbourne for 6 months, visit at least 5 times a year, and plus under 27, you can a working holiday visa, and so from there you can get a proper visa. It is safe, weather great (most of the time), very wealthy and stable, tradesmen make a ton of cash and the women are hot.
And yeah the mining industry is sick as. You can just literally make the arrangements in a month. ^^
|
Yeah actually due to the mining boom here the average blue-collar wage has just overtaken white-collar wages. Crazy stuff. I know plenty of people who just dropped whatever they were doing/learning and went to drive a truck in outback western australia haha. We have quite a lot of south african expats I believe. Also it is relatively easy for mature age students to get education or skills here especially if you are willing to work hard.

This post inspired me to read about crime on wikipedia. Jesus fucking Christ your country sounds like a post apocalyptic society. The part about sexual violence is the worst, fucking 5 years for raping someone, and its considered part of being a man or something? wtf wtf wtf. you should get lashed naked and put in prison for ~20 years for raping someone.
|
I think you guys missed the point that the difference in time between the US and South Africa being British colonies is pretty massive. The USA claimed its independence 136 years before South Africa. Not to mention South Africa was largely british controlled up to the 1990s. So yeah, South Africa is probably a lot more like Britain is than the USA.

No, you shouldn't. The role of the state isn't to enact punishing vengeance on criminal deviants, its to remove them from society so they can't continue to threaten innocent people. Join the 18th century please.

Yeah and that approach is working so well in South Africa do you think "More than 25% of a sample of 1,738 South African men from the KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape Provinces admitted to to raping someone when anonymously questioned" would be true if you were whipped in public for attempting rape/ doing rape?
Oh but of course if they're caught, after they've raped someone and maybe infected them with hiv, the 5 years in prison will rehabilitate the completely right? "nearly half said they had raped more than one person". guess not
I'm not advocating whipping because im some bsdm nut exacting vengeance , im doing it because there is way to much rapeage is south africa and I think they would send a very public message. these men enacted terror on pain on their victims, they should have to experience those emotions so they can empathize with their victims and fully understand their crime.
|
LOL Rinny But yeah there's a park down the road from me and a bridge that goes over to the shopping mall and i think theres been like 8 stabbings, 3 murders , and 100's of muggings and quiete a few rapes thats been in the newspaper that we know about, i was going to use it to go to gym instead of taking the car but after hearing about that most definitely not. I think if your a white highly educated person in South Africa you can have an amazing standard of living if you dont mind living in a sort of prison really with houses that are like Fort Nox. Thanks AusShinDig i will look into the Mining thing, i have a ex south african friend who's busy doing that but i thought it sounded to good to be true.I think also a trade will be my only option out of here, just having to stay here another 3+ years while i study that, i guess it will be worth it.
