This is it. This is the end. The fall that most, if not some, of us have been expecting. The fall of Brood War. The end of an Era. The greatest game ever to be invented, is gone. Well, at least the pro-scene.

I think the only regret for most of us die-hard Brood War fans, is that Brood War never really left the borders of Korea. Sure, we had some small tournaments outside Korea, like WCG and Blizzcon to name a few. But in the end, what did that really add up to? Some small tournaments and then it was gone. We'd forget about what happened, and refocus our attention on Korea.

However, the real question is... Do you stay? Do you continue to see the rise of SC2, or do you stay because there are other things on TL you like to do. Or do you leave? Leave and lurk around, never feeling the same feeling that you usually get looking at countless beautiful articles about Brood War that our writers have so toiled over. Will you reread them, and recount back to the days of joy and happiness that this game brought us?

What do we do from here? Sit back and watch? Or do you stick with Brood War and continue playing, mastering the game that we have all played countless hours on.

But whatever the scenario, I think we can all say one thing at the end: We came a long way. We climbed mountains to earn our spot at the top as the most challenging and competitive game in esports. But this is it. The end of the road. The end of an Era. Thanks for the company everyone, but I feel it's time we part ways.

Never Surrender. Never GG. BW4LYF. Always Fighting.

yes this is indeed the end. i played bw in 1999 or 2000 against my friend in an internet cafe, both of us had 2 older guys who coached us a bit. i was terran, he was zerg. i loved the ghosts and cranked them out like there was no tomorrow.
soon thereafter my freind's uncle bought him sc:bw
we did custom vs AI and had no chance vs the AI, especially the protoss! we thought them ahving shields was op.
i learned about the bw pro scene in korea about 2005, but never followed it, and came back in late 2008, when blizzard released more and more tidbits of sc2.
the only bw content i watched is from yt videos or the WCG 2010 when Infernal played vs flash.
i'm glad all these rumours and such come to an end and we can enjoy the dawn of a new beginning

<- relevant

I think BW's unique success and transition to a 'real' sport isn't likely to happen again any time soon..

BW hipsters will be BW hipsters,

If you want to ignore SC2 after HOTS is released, and after all of the BW pros switch and are helping shape the new m/u's and metagames, and with the expected korean/non-gomtv tournaments such as a sc2 starleague, and with BW pros attending foreign tournaments (think Flash at MLG), etc etc etc.... then go right ahead.

But you'll be awful lonely, and really bored.. although maybe that's what people who are afraid of change are used too.

SC2 is gonna be dead before Legacy of the Void. Blizzard reacts too slow to save the game, LoL and MOBAs are gonna take over. they are already taking over, enjoy while you can.

you get a facepalm for resembling everything that is shitty about gaming communities, if you are serious.

first off, LoL and MOBA are completely different games that Starcraft. I (and a large majority of starcraft players) hate MOBA games and I can never see myself playing MOBA games over Starcraft. there are too many people who love RTS games (sc2) and dislike MOBA games for SC (in whatever form) to ever die, sorry.
