Every time I hear swag I cringe a little. It sounds awkward coming out of anyone's mouth. I'd be fine with it if there was even a hint of irony or sarcasm--but there never is! Like I see the word swag come out of Catspajamas' mouth and he's completely serious.
Just stop it. No more swag. No more swag bags (lol what?). Gaming needs to forge its own culture and vernacular and stop borrowing and fusing itself with other crap, because it never sounds right, or feels right.
Is it just me?
I feel like ESports keeps trying to distance itself from gaming culture. It's understandable: a culture that embraces the word "rape" into its identity is seriously ill.
I embrace "sick nerd baller" because it rolls off the tongue, is cheeky, and the "nerd" part serves as a disclaimer. There is no such disclaimer to swag. Maybe people who have followed the scene for a while understand that there's an undertone of sarcasm, but anyone tuning in for the first time is more likely to think: "did he/she really just say that shit? I didn't know lil Wayne was rocking Toss."
Please, I beg you, stop saying swag with straight faces...it's not even cool in the first place ffs.
