i cant imagine myself walking for 50 minutes straight...
and as long as you dont have ur hands in ur pants or wearing something like a trench coat, you should be fine.

Oh boy I actually do the same thing.
Being an avid rambler, I often encounter people who walk not slowly, but at a pace just not quite as fast as me. And I'm always torn between rushing to overtake them at a speed that isn't my usual one (which feels odd, considering strolling is all about keeping your pace - if you're stressed, it's no fun) or slowing down, waiting for that person to finally turn left or right. Those are some mad hard decisions to make.

Being a guy that used to walk everywhere I can only say just overtake them. I used to be like you and walk slowly behind them and far enough away so that you dont look like a creeper, but really fuck that man. You got places to be, better to man through the awkward moment where you overtake them than to waste your time.
Or just cross to the other side of the street? lol

I walk to campus every weekday, and it is 25 minutes one way. I walk fast, because I've done it for 3 years, and I don't want to waste time walking at this point. I pass people without hesitation at this point, but the sidewalk is pretty wide, so its not like you have to get right on top of them.
Pass people, and walk a little faster than you would for the next 100 or so steps, to get some distance.

Just put yourself in the other person's shoes. Would you want someone awkwardly walking slower than they want behind you or would you want them to just blow by you without a thought in the world?

I find it awkward when two people are walking into each other's path. It's like: do you acknowledge their existence or just look foward and ignore them? So weird. Usually I'll glance at them and if they reciprocate, I'll nod or greet them, but sometimes they just look foward and then I feel like an asshole for even looking at them. lol humans.

Haha I remember when I was in Germany I was seriously the slowest walker ever. While walking to my school, I kid you not 12yr old girls would speed past me. Was quite amusing actually  I think we are far too laid back here in NZ...

this happens to me all the time. My comfortable walking pace is just a lot faster compared to the average person, so I tend to always catch up to those in front of me and face this ordeal. I've come to learn to just quickly pass them and continue walking. The most awkward time is when my pace is just barely slower than the person in front of me. They are fast enough that I'd have to increase my already fast speed in order to pass them without staying by their side for several seconds but slow enough that I have to consciously slow my pace otherwise.

The worst thing is when two FAT (and i mean like obese) people who insist on walking beside each other on a sidewalk the width of 4 people. They're so slow and its a fucking log jam.

I am a tall guy , and almost always in a hurry for no real reason , so i have a fast pace.
Ofc i can't stand behind other people... If the sidewalk is big , i go left-2 big steps right- then left again.
If the sidewalk is narrow.. I jump to the left , land on only one feet and then to jump to ther right again , saying HOP HOP loud enough for them to think im a funny guy :>
(They never think im a funny guy , when i turn my head to smile , all i get is <<the look>> , like if i represent the world's youth and i just dissapointed them... )

I walked home tonight and 4 people were walking on the other side of the road, they then crossed the road and walked about 10 ft in front of me (very slowly). I just slowed down and stayed behind them for like 3 minutes then they turned, another minute of that and I would have just crossed to the other side lol xD.

I think I would step off the sidewalk and on to the road until I pass them.
Honestly, the worst is when someone is just BARELY slower paced than you.
